2024 Oregon - Boise St. Pre-Game Reports, Analysis, Etc.
30Duck replied to Steven A's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I tend to agree that the D wasn't at fault, albeit they were playing Idaho. Boise State is a different type of spud. 3-0 against Oregon, not intimidated at all by Autzen, and very physical. We better hope the Broncos don't approach 267 yards on the ground as a team, let alone one player, against the Ducks. -
Oregon Ducks Football: Who Needs a BIG Week Two?
30Duck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Watching USC beat LSU was scary. The score was close throughout, but SC was in control the whole game. Putting even a competent defense along with SC's perennial high-powered offense makes USC a true contender for the BIG Championship, the Trojans don't play either the Buckeyes or the Ducks. As for the Ducks? The O Line controls every, if it isn't working, nothing else will either. It's incredible that Gabriel was able to put up the stats he did, imagine what he will be able to do with time to throw. It would be too depressing to look back to find a worse day for the running game, suffice it to say that if that happens again, the Ducks won't win. -
The Huskies game against Eastern Michigan is on the BIG10 Network.

What Will It Take To Make The Next Big Step?
30Duck replied to Haywarduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It's hard for me to remember a first game where everything that is said about first games came true. Oregon did seem pretty vanilla, probably didn't take Idaho seriously and really did escape a huge loss. Now all they have to do is beat a much better Boise State team, who will be full of confidence. This is a step in coaching that Lanning wasn't expecting' He better not trip. Lanning can't go ballistic on the team, they have to play with confidence and be in the No think, just do, mode. Big improvement is expected in week 2, the Ducks will be at home and need to take control of the game early. It was great that against Idaho, the Ducks D handled a 3rd & long, which has often been a challenge for them. If the Ducks can have a productive week of practice, come together, they should beat Boise State. -
So, the Ducks miss the cover over Idaho by about 5 touchdowns, Boise State goes on the road, wins by 11and have yet to lose to the Ducks, and it's Oregon -19.5? I understand that lines are set to be adjusted, but this one needs a chiropractor.

"Prevent Offense" was not in effect against Florida, who might not be very good, but Miami looked sharp and are most likely the best of the ACC. I can't work up a real hate for Mario, though it's believed indifference is actually a more severe feeling.

It certainly made yesterday's game more awkward, especially after Desmond and Herbie picked the Ducks to win the Natty. Now a BIG test comes up next week against a team the Ducks are o-fer against.

Look at the Bright Side With This Game...
30Duck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The bright side is that while Oregon didn't play well, they still won. This happens. The Ducks can't brush it aside, but in a few weeks, we can look back go, whew. -
Can The Portland Trail Blazers Keep Up Their Hot Start?
30Duck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The Blazers started out hot, then cooled down. But they have been the most enjoyable Blazers team in years. I actually watch entire games! Lillard has been out which doesn't help. But, aside from Milwaukee, there really isn't a dominant team. I believe that if Lillard can come back, and stay back, these Blazers could be a playoff team. -
Is The QB Position The Greatest Indicator of a Coaches Ability?
30Duck replied to Haywarduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Interesting question. When LSU won the Natty, he was a great QB, but I don't know how much Coach O had to do with it. Kirby Smartt and Stetson are a great combo at Georgia., but QB's aren't a huge part of Smartt's resume'. Chip had great success with very different QB's, Thomas, Mariota. It's easier to see where a coach might not be getting it right with a QB, maybe that guy who coached at Oregon before Lanning? -
Now, just saying he's the best RB they have faced isn't giving Charbonnet enough credit. As Anthony Newman would say, 'the guy is a dude!'

Harvey Winn, a Duck legend for sure. Another back up QB, who did a great job in LA, Tony Graziani leads the Ducks to a win over the Trojans, 22-7, Oct.1, 1994., the first win for the Ducks over the Trojans in the Coliseum since the Harvey Winn win.

Great article. At first glance it wouldn't seem like there would be a lot of great memories involving UCLA football, but one of my all time favorite Oregon wins was one I didn't see, only hears, and it was before Jerry Allen, Ducks down by 3 touchdowns in the 4th quarter come back to win, 41-40. More recently,1995, Oregon leads UCLA, 38-31, time is running out,

Herbert/Chargers Win in Overtime...Whew!
30Duck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
After watching the Mariners go 18 innings without scoring a run in the first playoff game at home in 21 years on Saturday, the Chargers and Broncos were doing good imitations of futility on offense, and watching the kicker wince every time he kicked was painful. But the win for the Chargers puts them in a tie for 1st in the AFC West with the Chiefs. Next for the Chargers is a home game against Seattle, while the Chiefs go to San Francisco to take on the 49ers, who will be coming off a loss to Marcus and the Falcons. Russell Wilson left Seattle so he could lead a more versatile and explosive offense than Carroll was running. So far, Denver has allowed 16.5 points per game, they are scoring 15.1 points per game. -
Do You Add a New Defensive Strategy This Week vs. UCLA?
30Duck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Does the age-old maxim, 'force them to pass' apply to this UCLA team? DTR to Bobo, the TE and the other receivers is scary. Taking Charbonnet out of the game would be good, but would that make the defense even more vulnerable to the pass? -
I applaud you for Coloado-Cal, head-to-head does mean something and is useful in tiebreakers, but just because a team beats another team once doesn't mean they are better overall. Oregon State is definitely primed for a good season, the only L i put on the rest of their schedule is against Oregon.

Is Beating UCLA Primarily Dependent On The Performance Of The Defense?
30Duck replied to Notalot's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Not poking at you here, but over the tears I've found that using comparison as a big part of evaluating is faulty. and finding that one team was able to score on USC's D, but another team couldn't score on Georgia's, doesn't clarify anything. -
Is Beating UCLA Primarily Dependent On The Performance Of The Defense?
30Duck replied to Notalot's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I haven't tracked UCLA , but the Ducks have come from behind this season, and once they've taken the lead, they've built on it. Playing at Autzen it would definitely help if the Ducks got the lead early. Hopefully, the Ducks will start on defense, get a stop and then put a touchdown on the board. A pick 6 would also be acceotable. -
Oregon Ducks Football: Keys to Knocking Off the Bruins
30Duck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I feel l This didn't take long. I agree completely that the obvious, getting 7 instead of 3, is huge. The explosive plats are great, what the Ducks have lived off this season. But getting the grind it out TD's, and stopping UCLA, gets the W. -
If LaMichael James could get away from his restaurants, he'd be good.

Is Beating UCLA Primarily Dependent On The Performance Of The Defense?
30Duck replied to Notalot's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Right now I'm more concerned with stopping Charbonnet on the ground and Bobo and others in the air, then I am of not scoring on them. I don't think you can be overly confident in a shootout. The weakest area of the game could be the Ducks' secondary, so pressure is mandatory, and that hasn't beem a Oregon strength either. So, yes, Oregon's D will have to have its best game by far to win this one. -
Ducks Move Up to No. 9, 10 in the Coaches/ AP Polls
30Duck replied to The Kamikaze Kid's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
That would be the USC Trojans, who Colin has been very positive about since hiring Riley. -
Do the Beavers Have a Superior Defense to the Ducks?
30Duck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Unlike the Ducks, who had the game against WSU all the way. -
Ducks Move Up to No. 9, 10 in the Coaches/ AP Polls
30Duck replied to The Kamikaze Kid's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Agree, I would have Tennessee No.1, and I'm glad that Colin Cowherd's Kids are out of the Top 10. -
