  1. The video and analysis Charles gave us the article were compelling. But the biggest adjustment the Ducks need to make for the game against Boise State to be a success is what you pointed out. Technique suffers when the players lack focus. Get their minds on the game and the question, "What do you think about the execution of your team?" will have a different answer than John McKay gave it.

  3. Hmmm. yeah, same as last weeks, but with white pants.
  4. Very well said. Not only do games early in the season matter, with the expanded playoffs, more games, for more teams will matter at the end of the season than ever before.
  5. I can't agree more. Darron Thomas is underrated, that entire team is underrated. in the Chip Kelly era. But it was the closest to get a championship. The championship game against Ohio State's third string QB was bad, and the incomplete passes to Nelson and Stanford will haunt me forever. It's still early for Lanning and his teams to create a championship identity.
  6. I love it, though I'm not close to being a Bronco's fan, way to go Bo. Throughout the buildup to the Draft, not much positive about Bo, not a big arm, low athleticism, if he was NFL ready, why did he stay in college so long? But then whispers from Sean Payton, still recovering from Russell Wilson, "Bo is exactly what I want" And it looks like that was right. With Bo starting for Denver, Oregon joins LSU & Oklahoma as the only schools with two starting NFL quarterback's this season.
  7. This was a game where the stats didn't match up and one in particular stood out to me and ties in to the article. Tez Johnson: 12 catches, 81 yards, that's 6.75 per catch, not exactly stretching the field, At first, I was annoyed when I heard, read a comment that no wonder Gabriel had such a high completion rate, he was throwing checkdowns the whole game. Hopefully, this was part of Oregon wanting to get through this game without showing Boise State anything.
  8. The Ducks jumped to No. 3 after beating Ohio State in 2021, and it never really felt right. This time they start at No.3 and play like all their shoes are a couple sizes too big.
  9. That would be the case if the Poll was computer based. But, since it's voted on by people, this is what you get. Precedent said what happened to Oregon was proper. If a top 5 team gets a W, even an ugly one, they might drop some, they don't plummet, conversely, No.23 doesn't jump up 20 spots by beating No. 13 on a neutral field.
  10. Except for a few teams, I could see the point. But since it is USC; go 'Fight On' somewhere else. 11. Great post, Solar. Hindsight is a truly wonderful thing, and I'm seeing the game against Idaho more clearly every day. Somewhere, Lanning has said something like, "Only Oregon beats Oregon". It happened twice last season, and while it didn't happen last week it was too close. The defense was very good. Forever Third and long has been exactly where Oregon's opponents want to be, but Idaho was 2-12 in third down conversions. Gabriel's stat sheet looked like it would have produced more points in most games, but that's why stats don't tell you everything.
  12. NCAA College Football Rankings: AP Top 25 Football Poll APNEWS.COM The official page for the AP Top 25 college football poll, a tradition since 1936. Keep up to date and view the latest ranking updates... Oregon finds itself at No.7 after getting past Idaho in the season opener. Not too bad, actually.
  13. Loving the objective optimism. I might have too much Eeyore.
  14. Agreed. Perhaps there are more out there who are confident that Oregon will cover at -19.5 than I believe there are. I feel that a lot more will take Boise State and the points.
  15. The sky isn't falling. Yet. But after the close win over Idaho, it is teetering. A lot of my concern is who the Ducks are playing this Saturday. So far, Boise State does OWN Oregon, 3-0. How Oregon is favored by 19.5 makes no sense. To win this game, the players are going to have to own the field, and Lanning is going to have to be right on every decision. If the Ducks had handled Idaho as they were expected to. the tension level of this game would be a lot lower. Losing to Georgia didn't cause any hang wringing. But Idaho isn't Georgia, so there's more pressure on the second game of this season than any I can remember.
  16. Oh yes, the one that, "could have gone either way"
  17. "...learn from winning!" is definitely better than from losing.
  18. I agree, for now, But for Oregon to get where they want to be, I feel that has to change. Champions don't play under the radar. They take the sling and arrows and control the narrative.
  19. Winner, winner, chicken dinner!
  20. Definitely comparable, and if the Ducks go on and finish 11-1, prophetic. The difference I see is that the Beavers, in their second season under Dennis Erickson weren't expected to do much better than the 7-5 of 1999. The Ducks however have much loftier expectations. First poll has them at No.3; definitely a playoff contender, if not, winner. A Heisman contender at quarterback. That team had no business pulling out a win against Idaho.
  21. For the most part the talk today has been about the now disturbing win for USC over LSU, or Clemson's feeble effort against Georgia. Oregon's near stumble against Idaho has barely been mentioned. Is that because nobody is worried about it, or is it that Oregon isn't relevant anymore?
  22. It would be anyway, but with the struggle against Idaho after all the pre-season hype, this, the second game of the season, against a non-conference foe is as important a game as Lanning has had as Oregon's coach. Failure is not an option.
  23. I agree the defense was good against Idaho. But it was Idaho. The O-Line was the biggest problem, and the offense won't score 24 against any of the teams left on the schedule if it performs like that again.
