  1. Osu2 has made a point to let the whole world know they've changed things since losing to the Ducks, with more subtlety I'm confident that Lanning, Stein and Lupoi have some new stuff. One big change. that can be huge for OBD doesn't involve any new exotic packages; it's just 285 lbs of Jordan Burch that osu2 didn't have to deal with last time. It worked last time. The Ducks definitely need to go to Stewart deep, early and often, as Charles noted, not only is that good in and of itself, it opens up Tez even more, not to mention, Ferg and Sadiq. If osu2 wants to blitz? Please do, DG has a insanely quick release. 1st downs & 3rd downs are going to ultimately decide the game. Getting to the "line to gain" is imperative, what knocked PSU out of the CCG the most were its penalties early in the game. Explosive plays will happen, but more important will be just keeping possession.
  2. That would be great. I'd like ASU and Dilly to win every game, but not that one. Oregon knows all too well how hard it is to win a Natty.
  3. Completely agree. It was OPI, and just too late on Howard's slide. What about the INT that wasn't? There hasn't been an INT call that bad since Harris against Auburn.
  4. The one good thing about the post 1st round bloviating is that it has exposed the SEC and ESPN for the entitled entities they are. They're fine when 2 SEC teams are battling it out for the championship in the 4 team invitational. But only 2 in the 12 team format? That's not fair. Most people realized 2 weeks into it that the ranking wasn't the problem. It was the seeding. You can quibble about Indiana and its weak SOS. But not if you're Alabama, with their L's to Vandy, Tennessee, the Tennessee that got blown out by osu2 and 24-3 to 6-6 Alabama? How can even the biggest Roll Tide fan say that Alabama team deserved to be in the Playoff?
  5. From Saturday Tradition No. 8 Ohio State vs. No. 1 Oregon — Quarterfinal, Jan. 1 (Rose Bowl) Ohio State -2.5 | Total: 54.5 | Moneyline: Ohio State -135, Oregon +114 To be completely honest, I didn’t expect Ohio State to be here. I discounted 2 things I probably shouldn’t have in the Buckeyes’ game against the Vols. The first was that Ohio State couldn’t do what it did coming off the Michigan loss in 2022 because Will Howard is not CJ Stroud. That didn’t matter at all. Howard played the game of his life and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly completely opened things up for him to take downfield shots. The Buckeyes just breezed through the Tennessee secondary in the first half, en route to a 21-0 lead in what felt like the blink of an eye. The second was that Tennessee could actually hurt the Buckeyes with its pass game. Dylan Sampson was never really available and the ground game suffered. Then Tennessee’s first- and third-leading receivers left the lineup and the Vols just fizzled out. The first quarter was a comprehensive beatdown because of Howard but also because of the Buckeye defense. They mauled Tennessee at the line of scrimmage. Nico Iamaleava didn’t complete a first-quarter pass and the Vols ended the opening 15 minutes with 16 yards of offense. Ohio State emphatically answered the “how would it respond” question that had been beating down the walls of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center for weeks. Now it gets a rematch with Oregon, the clear-cut best team from the regular season and a team Ohio State lost to by 1 point on the road. Howard was great that day too, completing 28 of his 35 passes for 326 yards, scoring 3 touchdowns while not turning the ball over, and posting a 95.1 QBR. The difference that day was a pass interference call and a second lost because Howard didn’t slide in time to set up a potential game-winning field goal. But Oregon was also without its best pass-rusher in the game. The Ducks gained almost 500 yards of offense and Ohio State rarely sniffed quarterback Dillon Gabriel. As a result, Gabriel picked apart the Buckeye secondary. It would seem the gap between Iamaleava and Gabriel is quite large. Oregon’s receivers are also better than Tennessee’s to an almost absurd degree. Assuming the Ducks don’t lose their best tailback after 2 carries, Ohio State isn’t likely to shut this offense down the way it did Tennessee’s. The Buckeyes also fed off the energy in Ohio Stadium and now they have to go cross-country to play in a much less friendly environment. I do wonder how much energy it took to do what Ohio State did in the first round, and if this game highlights the advantage of grabbing 1 of those first-round byes. Bet Oregon +2.5 (-108 via DraftKings)
  6. That's saying a lot. But having only two teams in the CFP is more than the SEC can handle! Steve Spurrier debates Ohio State getting home game over Tennessee WWW.SI.COM Ohio State may have dominated Tennessee in the first round of the College Football Playoff, but one SEC coaching legend wonders...
  7. I wear Duck gear every day, it's always appropriate.
  8. The title worked for Darren Perkins's article, and I think it fits here to. Overall, the list is okay, it does have all the 8 coaches, and it isn't alphabetical. But where I really disagree is with the 8,7 picks and the 3,2 picks. Ranking the 8 remaining College Football Playoff coaches SATURDAYTRADITION.COM There isn’t a College Football Playoff team still watching film that doesn’t have what it takes under the headset. But who's the best?
  9. The most annoying actor I can think of, David Hasselhoff, stars in the Netflix Original, "A Day of Redemption: The Ryan Day Story Cal football is that book you started reading years ago, "Page turner" it is not. You pick it up, and it's as boring as it was the last time, there aren't even any pictures. The 1-6 seeding foul up wasn't a conspiracy against OBD, just not surprising that Oregon would be the No.1 to be stuck with it. But the opportunity" won't knock Lanning and the Ducks off track. It's kind of fitting that Oregon is the team that will have to fight the hardest to get the Natty.
  10. With a win over osu2 in the Rose Bowl, Oregon will be the first team to beat osu2 twice in the same season, since 1894. In 1892, '93 and 94. Osu2 lost twice to Oberlin College, Kenyon College & Wittenberg University, the three schools are now Division 3. No end to the things you'll learn @ "The Forum with Decorum"
  11. Lame Kiffin. I had a friend in the Navy, her mom misspelled her name on the birth certificate, so she is Veroncia,
  12. Not surprising. It would be bold to pick Oregon to sweep osu2, they just saw osu2 destroy Tennessee...so they pick osu2. Just like they did last time.
  13. Let's hope they're over the flu. But yes, especially if they get up 28-10 on osu2, they can't let the game get close.
  14. It is a great look at the blatant favoritism of the announcers toward the SEC. "Not a knock on Indiana" Come on, Herbstreit.
  15. First Saban said that the Up Tempo football Kely had Oregon playing would ruin football and was dangerous for players, then he recruited up tempo players and it was all good. He got out of coaching because the transfer portal was destroying the advantage that Alabama had built up, and he doesn't like that players can just leave teams like coaches have always been able to.
  16. This is a great decision. There is not a more agonizing fumble than the one by a player fighting for extra yardage! Getting the ball to Sadiq, another weapon, with very little tape to study? More of that 3-D chess Lanning and Stein are playing. A TE, option, with the WR's that have to be covered? Dangerous!
  17. Steven A addressed this with Oregon's "fire in the eye's" for the Colorado game last season. One of the things I've really liked about this Oregon team is the Quiet, if you will, confidence it's had the whole season. We know from the video's that Lanning is a great motivator. But, on the field, Oregon is a machine. I think that's a better mindset than the "palpable" emotion osu2 displayed before the Tennessee game that was never a contest. Energy, enthusiasm is finite. osu2 expended a lot of it for the Vols. How much do they have left for the Ducks? Meanwhile, Oregon will be the train it has been all season, staying on schedule, picking up speed, when necessary; but if you're stuck in the tracks when the Oregon Express coming, it's too late to get out of the way.
  18. From Eleven Warriors Did anyone ask Lanning if there were any other rules/penalties he was going to try and exploit?
  19. Lanning has lost some big games: In a "Neutral Site" against Georgia, 1 to OSU and 3 to Washington, by 3 points. Let's take a look at how Day & osu2 have done when the pressure is at its highest...well, they did just beat Tennessee.
  20. This team is great, and yet it can still get a lot better! It's not shooting well, or rebounding, but it's been playing great defense, with the exception of allowing offensive rebounds. all season. The shooting will have to improve, a necessity I think, to beat Illinois and Mayland. MacLean had a particularly good observation on Shelstad during the Stanford game. Shelstad had a wide open 3 but took it to the rim instead. Ordinarily, that's fine. But Shelstad can't start passing up 3's. The defense will back off him. MacLean also mentioned earlier that 3's are shot best when the shooter just lets them go, when you hesitate or aim, you'll miss.
  21. His trash talk? It's kinda weak. "The way that last one ended doesn't sit right with me... I'm just thankful for the opportunity that we get another crack at them." Will Howard and the Ohio State Buckeyes are already trash talking the Oregon Ducks AUTZENZOO.COM The Ohio State Buckeyes won in the first round of the College Football Playoffs. They immediately started trash-talking their...
  22. Kiffin and Finebaum are SEC hubris on overload with this, neither Alabama nor Ole Miss deserved to be in the Playoff. Texas's SOS wasn't much better than Indiana's and they didn't win their conference; that was Georgia, who barely escaped Kentucky, lost to Alabama. They did beat Clemson, who just got beat by Texas, and beating Texas twice are Georgia's best wins. So SEC, you might want it more, but you really don't get it this time.
  23. To be fair to the ESPN computer who has never liked Oregon is just saying what we've noted, Oregon has the toughest path to the Natty.
  24. Thanks, Alex. Football 101 says the key to beating osu2 is getting a serious pass rush on Howard. Having Burch this time helps with that immensely. Not only that, I can see Lupoi having some blitz packages ready to go. Containing Smith, by getting to Howard is mandatory. Osu2 can run the ball, but if they don't break a big one, let em get 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Heisman winner Hunter and the Buffs will have played BYU in the Alamo Bowl, by the time the Rose Bowl kicks off, Jeanty and Boise State and Penn State is the game right before, now it will be Gabriel's turn to do what he has all season; lead the Ducks to another win. It doesn't seem to matter how much tape opposing DC's have to look at; Tez will be wide open in the middle of the field and Gabriel will find him, or Ferg, or Stewart, Sadiq, Holden. Gabriel can run it too. But most of the running will come from JJ and Whittington. Oh yeah, go Ducks!!!!
