Caleb Williams - Out Rest of Season?
idontrollonshobbas replied to Desert Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
What's an 'Acho'? -
I suggest watching it in June. By then the Ducks will have finished the best season in school history and the loss will be the catalytic moment you will want to watch in the dark depths of "the off-season"

While I lament the downfall of the Pac-12, two things I will struggle to miss are playing Stanford and Wazzu....two teams that haunt my OBD dreams.

Prime's humility would be more impressive if it showed up when he wins, instead of only when he gets his aZZ handed to him.

Famous FishDuck Keys to Beating the Huskies
idontrollonshobbas replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Wow...how right you are. I haven't watched that show, or ESPN in general, for a few years....and I remember why now. Gameday is a jock version of The View. Four people talking at once and somehow saying nothing. I was never a fan of anti-Duck Pollack, but McAfee makes him seem erudite. According to the Google, Pat was a Pro Wrestler, Punter, and "kickoff specialist." They couldn't find some one with more insight than that? Where's Ray Guy when you need him.....or George Blanda? 26 year pro football career! -
UW Has an Extra Week to Fix Weaknesses
idontrollonshobbas replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Pressure is on the Doogs. There are higher ranked, at home, with Gameday and all eyes on them, and they won in Eugene last year so the lazy narrative is that they should win due to all of the above If we protect the ball and can get to Penix, we will neutralize the home field advantage. Then it comes down to turnovers and penalties. I like being the road dog here. -
Beavers vs. Utes: Who is Your Pick?
idontrollonshobbas replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think the Utes win ugly.....19-17 DJU needs a pristine pocket to complete long throws. Utes will disrupt him enough that he throws 2 picks. -
QUAAAAACK! 2026 5-Star DL Tony Cumberland Commits to Oregon

Bryce Boettcher - Another Eugene Product & Surprise
idontrollonshobbas replied to Mic's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I like the Joe Walker comparison for Bryce....both in terms of style of play and being a surprise star to us fans. Kiko was a high profile recruit...Joe was a JUCO transfer. Bryce is a walk-on. All three are instinctual ballers who deliver a payload upon impact. -
I saw the 60 minutes segment on him that made him more sympathetic to me than I was before as well. It will be interesting to see if he continues coaching past his kid's college era. He doesn't need the money, or he could make the same money with less work, given his brand. So if he continues coaching when his sons are in the NFL, then he must have an abiding passion for developing young men. And there is seemingly no limit of young men who need mentors, coaches, teachers and parental figures in their lives. I teach at a community college covering a chunk of rural Oregon, and I would love to have more guys like Deion leading young men to become their best selves, instead of slowly giving up on their circumstances.

Yes, I did.....but I also felt like Wazzu had 3 or 4 one in a million plays to keep it close. For the life of me I don't remember them now though. Couple of bail out bombs with Ward escaping pressure. Maybe a PI or other flag to extend plays? But I had that game circled as a trap given it was the first conference game, and it was Wazzu, whom I never took for granted after 2004.

A failed drug test contributed to the roster deficit for that NCG as I recall.....

If you remember his press conferences it was similar—clearly knows the game but is light on charisma and gets tongue tied

This is the closest thing to another site I joined in the early 90's (yes, dial-up era) that was also a great community which shared info that was hard to get back in those days on recruiting, scrimmages and practice updates. But it sold to one of the big recruiting sites and was immediately flooded with rage-aholics and trolls from partner websites with very little mod control. I started to feel like a chaperone at a frat party.....

Weird: I've Lost All Interest in Oregon State
idontrollonshobbas replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Canzano and the Beavers are perfect for one another. Like "No" Goe, he has historically dumped on the Ducks with too much glee for my taste. Let him and the Beavers toil in obscurity from now hence. Rodents alike. -
Canzano: Finding Logic in a 74-Point Drubbing
idontrollonshobbas replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
That article is a stellar example of high quality sports journalism. Goe should've studied your form and process for his own self improvement as a journalist! In reading that piece, I wonder if Phil's "broken relationships" created during the Hayward renovation with the families Jaqua, Hatfield and Bowerman were ever as bad as Goe suggests and where those relationships are now..... -
Canzano: Finding Logic in a 74-Point Drubbing

Ken Goe has being a long suffering Duck hater for decades. His narrative has always been about doom-casting on the Ducks rather than cogent sports analysis and insight. I take great pleasure in knowing that the Duck's increasing success over the years coincided with his career at that fish wrap, forcing him to have to watch our games and occasionally write a 1000 words that barely hide his seething Duck enmity. Ken "No" Goe is the proverbial..... -

I think "havoc" may mean something different to DL than "sacks" or even TFL's. It's a more general idea of disruption with containment and forcing QB's to make spot reads and decisions under duress.

Gun to my head….. I don’t think Neon coaches after his kid is drafted. He has enough money and doesn’t strike me as a grinder necessarily

Why Oregon will Flourish in 2023 and Beyond
idontrollonshobbas replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Phil and others have set-up an investment fund to cover ongoing fixed costs of maintaining and enhancing facilities. And it might even cover coaching salaries. This happened over a decade ago now, IIRC? Division Street is a separate entity to cover NIL expenses. So as long as operating revenues (tickets, merchandise, media rights, etc.) can cover operating expenses, the Ducks will be fine. This is why the B1G had to happen. I think the Autzen work will be enhancements to generate more revenues as much as an expansion. Think more luxury boxes, expanded food and beverage options (seat service sections), gameday experience packages, full weekend packages with shoulder events before an after a football/basketball game. If they add seats it will be a modest amount. Too many people (like me) have given up season tickets for the 70inch at home, and the Valley is growing but slowly compared to larger urban centers. But, if the B1G means the return of more day games, and these longer weekend packages are available, including an RV spot, or other new accommodations close to campus, then I would consider season tickets again. Ducks will be fine. One hitch I see coming though, is a debate about Title IX. Essentially mens football and to a lesser extent, men's hoops, are the only reliable profit generators. Those profits fund the other sports. Someone is going to test that legally. I suppose worst case Uncle Phil et al, establish an endowment for DAF to cover those costs? -
It already started...before the final whistle. Lots of great storylines in this final Pac-12 season.

Week 1 Thread for Non-Oregon games

TCU-CU game highlighting early the annual divergence in PI penalty discernment between conferences. Big12 refs swallow the whistle from time to time......Pac12 crews in recent years appear to be paid per flag.
