Go Ducks. It all starts with and goes through the offensive line. The Ducks OL has performed with the best in the nation. There are challenges in 2023 presented to the OL group by attrition. It's time to reload. Do the Ducks have elite personnel? Will the OL gel and block effectively to rise to elite performance? Bo is ready to pass for record yards. The backfield is loaded. Can the OL open holes for them, block at the line of scrimmage, and downfield to free them?

Each fan has a favorite of all time. Mine is Ronnie Lee. I was on the UO campus from 1968-1975 with a break ithe middle to S.E. Asia. It was common then to intermingle with athletes in the Phys Ed areas, EMU, class buildings, and intramural fields. Similar to the story, one day I was looking for a handball game and Tom Graham, the amazing linebacker invited me to play with him. He was a favorite if mine, and playing several games with him is something I have remembered. I married in 1972 while a student and bought season tickets to Ducks basketball. I was there when UCLA came to Mac Court for its "Lost Weekend". I remain astounded until this day, 50 years later, by Ronnie Lee's performance against Bill Walton and the reigning nation champion UCLA that night. Lee repeatedly drove down the middle attacking Walton. Lee whirled through the air like a gymnast. Several times it seemed that he left the floor at the free throw line, sailed by Walton with the ball outstretched, gyrating through unbelievable hang time to stuff the ball as the big redhead flailed away at him. It was a show like I had never before seen. The Kamikaze Kids were great to watch, but Ronnie Lee stood out for his effort, wily ways, and basketball IQ. He is worthy of Drex's "gym rat" moniker.

The biggest flip for me was Bowen "flipping off" the Ducks. Along with the existing and coming talent on the Ducks defense Bowen's play could have made a difference by shoring up the defensive line and giving it push and stopping power. This is no time to cry over spilt milk. It's time to move on. The newcomers gathered by Lanning and staff buoyed weaknesses, filled personnel gaps, and added depth on both sides of the ball. Oregon, with Dan Lanning leading, is ready to play big boy football against the best. Go Ducks.

"What can you fo for me now" has become the mantra of the present football environment. Bo Nix is a known commodity and winner for Oregon. He is an established leader and gamer. Nix provides continuity in the transition of the new OC. He is a magnet for closing recruiting WR's and RB's. His return is a win for Oregon football. Any further developments will be icing on the cake.

I too was surprised and disappointed with the 2022 defense. The interior linemen had trouble penetrating most opponent's lines. The edge was too often not sealed, and the pass defense struggled among more specific deficits. The coaches called out by the writer have excellent track records. They hit the ground running, had not worked together before, and inherited the players. I felt that too many of the defensive players played below the performance I expected preseason. Possibly I expected too much from those players in anticipation, or I drank too much green koolaid on the hype train? Before calling the coaches out I am willing to give them time and see their defenses materialize. This year's team should have been 11-1 sans bonehead coaching decisions in two games that gave those games away. Eleven wins would be outstanding, and the players and coaches deserve credit. Like DNC, I look forward to see what comes next, but I am not ready to call out coaches Lupoi and Lanning. Go Ducks.

I find the end/off season antics very interesting to follow. Coaching movement, next week's signing day, the Portal, and even the final champioship games. There is seldom a dull moment. This begins the first full off season cycle for coach Lanning. Will he win this chess match, or gamble and lose? Will Martin Malchow and the added off field staff begin to pay off? I hope they earn their keep with blue chip recuits and proven playmakers from the Transfer Portal.

For me the season is defined by the entire 12-game body of work beginning with the Georgia game and culminating with today’s match against the Beavers. The Civil War is yet another data point, albeit with added emphasis given the rivalry between the teams and the impact of winning on the Pac-12 North crown and statewide bragging rights, not to mention beating a ranked team for national SOS effects. Go Ducks. Beat the Beavers soundly.

Ritchey's days of reign as AD were at the tipping point between the collegial days where P.E., Intramural sports, and major sports intersected. The athletes were present in classes and campus activities. and time and training demands not nealy as demanding as they are today. AD Ritchey served during the war protest period of the late '60's into the 1970's as football came under scrutiny and attack by students and The Daily Emerald. I have great respect for Norv Rithchey and the contributions and career he devoted to the University of Oregon.

I was reviewing the team statistics yesterday at www.Pac-12.com, when It was noted that passing defense ranked lowest for Oregon in the comparative statistical categories. There was only a small difference in passing yards allowed, and average yards per completion, but it stood out becsuse Oregon was either in the first or second position in most of the other catagories. With the Duck's prolific offense they can overcome points allowed by outscoring the opponent. This is the time of the season when the going gets tough. I hope that the Ducks defense, especially the passing defense, steps up for break ups, tight coverage, interceptions, and prevents chunk yardage gains.
