Is This Roster the Most Talented Duck Squad on Offense? I Say YES
Notalot replied to Ktmguy2018's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The talent is enough for this team to be great. I expect Bo to have his career-best year. Suspect functions that need to perform at high levels to maximize win totals and championships are: -team leadership - in-game coaching - OC performance - teamwork and cohesiveness - the will of the players to overcome adversity to win -
Colorado Leaving the Pac-12 for the Big-12?
Notalot replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Will this become, C U later Buffaloes? -
I'll go out on an April limb and predict at least one one-loss or better Pac team in the coming season. Cream rises to the top. Four teams have a shot to become great in 2023 and earn a playoff spot with superlative play.

The conference schedule will act like a winnowing machine. The chaff will fall away and the wheat will remain for post season play and accolades.

The Ducks have far more talent than the Buffs. Colorado will be coming to Autzen to win and has nothing to lose as the underdog. The Ducks must play tough whistle to whistle to avoid disaster. Coach Prime and the Buffs would love nothing more than leaving duck eggs splattered on the turf grass inside Autzen.

Canzano: Time for Big Bosses in Pac-12 to Lead
Notalot replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Mr. Canzano rightly recognizes the President's and Chancellor's pattern and desire for a unified stance. In the case of the Pac12 media deal unity becomes a trap like a cob web. WSU, OSU, Cal, and possibly Stanford and Colorado, without the other Pac members have no place but down to go without deal binding the others. Utah will have locked in security if a media deal is signed whether deserved or not. The only way a new deal is good for Oregon is if it has a no penalty escape clause from the get-go which is unlikely. The overwhelming threat to the Ducks is that the national landscape of conferences and top-tier teams will shift during the term of the pending agreement. The uncertainty now, and a new agreement with compatatively weak shares, will further diminish the clout and reputation of the Pac imediately making recruiting progressively more difficult. Canzano is correct that it is time for the leaders to lead. Even more necessary is that the leaders of Oregon, Washington, ULCA (sic), and Utah agree a strategy and execute it separately or together from the other members of the conference. This is no time to be timid, or to be dragged into the quicksand by conference members who have no future in the new order of major college football. -
THE PAC-16 - Time to Go to a 'Super Conference?'
Notalot replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
A good and reasonable proposition, Jon. The teams and alignments that you suggested make sense. I'm sure that you would agree there are other good options as well. The rock-crusher of change in conference alignments is in motion. There may never again be the opportunities to assemble so many great programs into a great new conference. The time is now. I prefer a 20-team structure, but sixteen or twenty are mere details of alignment. I prefer The inclusion of both Cincinnati and Memphis, along with Houston then west to the Pacific. Frankly, I do not feel good about the Presidents or the Comissioner. The AD's should be lighting fires, but do not appear to be doing so. Without significant additions and realignment, I would rather see Oregon leave for the B1G+ or B12+. The biggest dogs have already left the Pac. As is, there are too many weak links in the Pac. Adding several new members does not resolve or avoid the looming problems. Thank you, Jon, for laying out a vision for change. -
Streaming Games: Rough Waters or Gently Down the Stream?
Notalot replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The sports TV environment will change enormously during the next ten years. What we have known from national networks and sports cable channels will fracture and evolve. Availability, access, distribution, and pricing are in flux. The tug-of-war has begun and fan viewer consumers are under siege as the big business battle is waged. Thanks, Jon, for illuminating some of the aspects that are or may be changing. The discussion you initiated is interesting. Points of view are surfacing along with concerns and approaches to resolve issues coming to light. -
Oregon’s Offense Will Pick Up Where It Left Off
Notalot replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
You framed the topic nicely, Joshua. Thank you. -
This will end Clemson's FAST West Coast Spread that Chad Morris borrowed from Chip Kelly and Oregon after Oregon made two championship games. Clemson flourished with Morris' version. Oregon's and Clemson's offenses likely will again have similarlties 2023 and ahead with Riley and Stein leading the offenses with Air Raid interspersed.

Dabo Swinney let OC Brandon Streeter go and hired Lincoln Riley's brother, a Frank Broyles Awars winner, as OC. What a hire. He is 33 years-old. Here comes Air Raid concepts

Oregon Football D-Line with Jordan Burch Commit
Notalot replied to Tandaian's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The callers on sports talk radio have been poo-pooing Jordan Burch since he entered the portal. Stuff like "he wasn't as good as advertised", or, "didn't live up to his hype". Hurt feelings and sour grapes spawned by disappointment I suppose. There has also been a stir about The Ducks and Oregon using improper inducements to lure Burch. Who knows what goes on behind the curtain in the sausage factory? I've always believed that Oregon Athletics played by the rules. The lines of the rules of engagement have been blurred in the new era of the Wild Wild West. -

Oregon Football D-Line with Jordan Burch Commit
Notalot replied to Tandaian's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Let's hope that Burch is indeed special. Generally South Carolinians agree that his production has been pedestrian and not fully reflective of Burch's 5☆ evaluation. Burch is very athletic with size, length, and speed. It will be interesting to see what Tosh and Tuioti get out of him. Burch has the potential to be a difference maker if he can unleash his inner beast. -
Yours is a good topic, Joshua. Studying the best and emulating their skills and tactics is the way to improve. The receivers in the playoffs performed amazingly. The Ducks need more speed in their receiving ranks, then need to refine route-running, hand and arm strength, and skills using their bodies to defeat defenders. Those are easy to say and hard to execute principles. The Ducks running backs are sublime. They are elite and will improve with more Carrie’s and coaching. Check that box. The Ducks need more speed on the edges. Sealing the edge by preventing the ball carrier from turning the corner is key. Along with that is the need for better DB’s. Winning a championship requires shutdown defenders who can stay close to receivers, close quickly, and play man to man defense consistently winning matchups. As Joshua said, an elite QB is necessary to win a championship. A fully healthy Bo Nix might be good enough, Certainly it takes Bo’s QB ability or more. Size, speed, motion, leadership, toughness, decision making, competitive spirit, mental processing, mobility, the ability to read defenses and anticipate - being an elite Quarterback requires so much. There is a great leap from being a very good QB to being elite. Then the Ducks need big uglies in the middle of the defensive line. The kind with push who can bully and maul offensive linemen to plug the gaps. Those who can defeat the blockers and tackle. The Ducks are building a championship team. Dan, Tosh, and Klemm know what it takes to win . Can they gather the players that are needed and prepare them enough to become national champions?

No Dana Altman in the "Coaches" category? Dana is an all-time winner with longevity.

Go Ducks. It all starts with and goes through the offensive line. The Ducks OL has performed with the best in the nation. There are challenges in 2023 presented to the OL group by attrition. It's time to reload. Do the Ducks have elite personnel? Will the OL gel and block effectively to rise to elite performance? Bo is ready to pass for record yards. The backfield is loaded. Can the OL open holes for them, block at the line of scrimmage, and downfield to free them?

Each fan has a favorite of all time. Mine is Ronnie Lee. I was on the UO campus from 1968-1975 with a break ithe middle to S.E. Asia. It was common then to intermingle with athletes in the Phys Ed areas, EMU, class buildings, and intramural fields. Similar to the story, one day I was looking for a handball game and Tom Graham, the amazing linebacker invited me to play with him. He was a favorite if mine, and playing several games with him is something I have remembered. I married in 1972 while a student and bought season tickets to Ducks basketball. I was there when UCLA came to Mac Court for its "Lost Weekend". I remain astounded until this day, 50 years later, by Ronnie Lee's performance against Bill Walton and the reigning nation champion UCLA that night. Lee repeatedly drove down the middle attacking Walton. Lee whirled through the air like a gymnast. Several times it seemed that he left the floor at the free throw line, sailed by Walton with the ball outstretched, gyrating through unbelievable hang time to stuff the ball as the big redhead flailed away at him. It was a show like I had never before seen. The Kamikaze Kids were great to watch, but Ronnie Lee stood out for his effort, wily ways, and basketball IQ. He is worthy of Drex's "gym rat" moniker.

Oregon Ducks Football: Signing Day Superlatives
Notalot replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The biggest flip for me was Bowen "flipping off" the Ducks. Along with the existing and coming talent on the Ducks defense Bowen's play could have made a difference by shoring up the defensive line and giving it push and stopping power. This is no time to cry over spilt milk. It's time to move on. The newcomers gathered by Lanning and staff buoyed weaknesses, filled personnel gaps, and added depth on both sides of the ball. Oregon, with Dan Lanning leading, is ready to play big boy football against the best. Go Ducks. -

QUAAACK! Khyree Jackson is a Duck...Alabama DB Transfer
Notalot replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
"What can you fo for me now" has become the mantra of the present football environment. Bo Nix is a known commodity and winner for Oregon. He is an established leader and gamer. Nix provides continuity in the transition of the new OC. He is a magnet for closing recruiting WR's and RB's. His return is a win for Oregon football. Any further developments will be icing on the cake.
