  1. Remember how former Offensive line coach Neal Zumbokos used to say, "no sugar for my group." He forbid them to accept any praise as, "we can always be better." I think our O-Line obviously had a bit too much sugar from the media...and believed it.
  2. Amen. The big "THUD" you heard outside was the team, and us fans being brought back to earth.
  3. They scored one on a trick play--it happens. Overall I think this defense is showing us how it has the talent to be outstanding, IMHO. Completely agree. The good news is that often on good plays--they did play it from a normal above angle. I am not there yet, but the drop-off from losing one player on the OL should not have been that dramatic. Poncho played the most of any reserve O-lineman last year, and he primarily did it at right guard...where he played yesterday. Pickard got beat badly in the Spring Game by our newbie defensive linemen, thus I was dismayed to see him out there. I think the coaches rolled the dice on who could play better...replace the center or the guard? Our star offensive tackles had their worst game at Oregon, and I don't expect to see that again. I think I will know better once I spend time pouring over every play--haven't done that yet.'
  4. Below was in the media guide, and boy does it help me!
  5. Yes. In my article on FishDuck on Friday, before the game, I wrote... "We all know the stats and experience of Dillon Gabriel coming in, and frankly–it appears that he throws a better long-ball than Bo Nix. Yet I believe that a reason for so few sacks in the past two years was Nix’s ability to get rid of the ball, and yet complete the pass. Normally if you are throwing the ball away to prevent sacks–your completion percentage declines, but we did not see that with Bo." I also wrote in this forum that I expected our sacks against us to go up, as Bo was extraordinary at getting rid of the ball, and yet completing the pass. And we saw our sacks against us go up already.... Idaho Test: Is Oregon’s Positional Depth for Real? | FishDuck FISHDUCK.COM With all that has happened, it is hard to believe that Dan Lanning has only been at Oregon for two years. Yet the talent stacked up from both high school and…
  6. The percentage of success on those 4th down plays are low for a reason, and Dan has to learn the hard way. The last two years weren't enough yet. The good news? This is an outstanding defense that will keep us in games until the offense comes alive. Look at that line above....Did You EVER Think We Would See It?
  7. This is the aspect of how "been there already" is overlooked by us fans. Georgia and Alabama are used to the hype, ignoring it and performing.
  8. Will Stein, Dillon Gabriel, and the Wide Receivers will look better when the offensive line gives good pass protection.
  9. When we talk about the offense...Gabriel was NOT looking downfield, or did not see open receivers deeper downfield today. We did not stretch the defense, and Dillon did well considering the Vandals tightened up the pass defense within 10 yards of the LOS, IMHO. Bad News: The offense was a big surprise to the negative. Good News: There is a TON of upside to this offense, as the players are there. Right now...it is surprising to me that Pickard/Poncho at center-right guard was superior to Poncho/Strothers instead? Strothers must be must worse than I realized. It would also explain why we went after Bedford as a transfer at right guard. I thought Strothers had it nailed, but Oregon recruited Bedford and I was surprised. Not now.
  10. Poncho was playing right guard, which is where he played most of last season. Pickard at center...is not good. But frankly--our AA tackles did not do well today either. Bad run blocking, and they got beat for sacks and a fumble.
  11. OK...the game is over, and let's continue discussion in the main page of the forum.
  12. Oregon is taking this transition into the Big-10 seriously and blending right in. Great defense, and poor offense....Iowa gives the Ducks a nod...
  13. OK, Tysheem Johnson, is now starting in the second half. So perhaps there was an internal bit of disciplined being done that benched him for the first half? When can I say “I told you so”about Brandon Johnson?
  14. I am really impressed with how accurate Gabriel is, and he does have a quick release. When he decides to throw--it's gone. I am surprised at the offensive line, but it is early. Disappointed with injuries on defense; Bassa is out, but nice to have Boettcher and Jackson to step in. Tysheem Johnson must be hurt for a RS freshman Tyler to be playing...
  15. I am watching on YouTube TV, and the broadcast is very clear and crisp.
  16. Here we are my Duck-Buddies, the thread for pondering the actual game as it happens. Let's discuss before, and during the game! The vast majority of you are GREAT in this thread, but you must remember that this forum is different, as we require civilized discourse. Discussion of negative is fine, but don't vent on us! Rule No. 31d covers GameDay Thread Conduct, and it is not hard for the vast majority of us--just a tiny few who need to reign it in when things don't go well for Our Beloved Ducks. Let's Have Fun Posting During the Game!
  17. OK...now THIS makes the result as "good-or-good." Florida wins and Mario loses-good. Miami wins and Florida loses...and perhaps changes coaches? Good!
