  1. Streaming and most Internet related media is all about the views not the potential market. Bring these two things together has to be a nightmare. It would be interesting if the media deal included a base sum with a royalty payment based on viewership number.
  2. This is probably a good indication of why the PAC deal is taking so long. Lots and lots of complicated negotiations with multiple parties involved. The PAC 12 Networks having not been sold off may just be the one thing that Larry did right, just maybe.
  3. This is true but Amazon has the cloud infrastructure in place to handle as much streaming demand as the world can throw at it. I think either of these companies are in a place where the cash is not super relevant but it's still going to have to make good business sense. The one thing ESPN has that no one else has is talented sports announcers, camera operators, sports media market experience and integration with sporting news and statistics. The PAC 12 networks, unfortunately, doesn't even come close. I do agree that the best use is for them to transition to and or be bought out by one of the streamers.
  4. So unfortunate as they where looking really good thur the mid season, really thought this was the year for them to make a run.
  5. I would not be surprised if someone like Amazon puts together an online bundle at some point in the future. Currently you can get MGM, Showtime, and AMC subscription thru Prime and they are integrated into the Prime interface. The executives at ESPN and Fox won't leave money on the table. We might see a payper view model for big games or they could give them away for free because the ad revenue would be so much greater on championship or playoff games.
  6. Not a big fan of Apple Tv to small of a subscriber base, Amazon has the subscribers but there will be growing pains. ESPN currently has it all, put that together with all the other sports content they have and a subscription is a no brainier for any sports fan. ESPN could cut out the middle man and keep allot more advertising revenue or use it to lock up more media rights. Smart move on their part. Personal I think the schools need to cut out their middle man, the conferences. How much money did the PAC 12 waste under Larry that could have gone to the schools? I think eventually this will happen at the big schools, they're not going to want to continue to give a big chunk of their media money to the Vanderbilt and Rutgers of the world. If Oregon made a deal with ESPN for say $2 a view Oregon would have ended up with 57.2 million last year, not bad. Now consider that viewership would be higher due to world wide reach, no blackouts and on demand. The ceiling is much higher than anything the PAC will ever bring to the Ducks. This is more inline with how internet marketing model works. Fishduck gets paid by the view not the potential viewership of some arbitrary media market. It's all about the money this will happen eventually.
  7. This would go a long way to speeding up the game without changing the overall dynamic. If you change first down clock stoppage I feel that you need to change the passing interference penalty to a spot foul as to not unduly influence come back attempts which we all love.
  8. I agree totally with you on this one, if the games are too long there's many other ways to speed things up, number one is instant replay. How many instant replays take several minutes when most everyone knows what the answer is in 5 seconds. The referee should never have to walk to a monitor to initiate a replay when a couple guys in the booth should already know by the time they get to the sideline.
  9. Love the picture of Funa as he has learned to drop into coverage and is really starting to get the hang of it! If Bassa gets a little better at tackling and taking better angles to the ball he could be the difference maker. He also needs to step up and be the leader that's been missing the last few years. I'm really high on Jacobs as his instincts seem to be very solid, I only recall one play from the spring game he was out of position. Hill moving to LB seems like a great move, just a little slow to cover the slot and it seemed quicker receivers always had a step on him. Always a solid tackler with great zone instincts and ability to cover TEs in man to man. These three guys should make up a very solid rotation. Let's hope they can get it done.
  10. A decent receiver but I think his locker room presence is probably a distraction, his attitude on the field is less than stellar. If I remember correctly he got more than a couple stupid PIs.
  11. He dose seem to have some Mariota traits. When passing plays break down he scrambles with intent to pass first run second. Throws very accurate passes mid stride while running. Has amazing speed and a nice little wiggle in the run game. Nice touch on his passes and seams to have a good feel on how hard he can throw it. Looks like his WRs need a lot of help and few if any are going on to college. Could be the reason he's only 3*. Could be heavily underrated, just hope he can transition to the big time.
  12. Bucky dropped the ball allot to start last year, do well give them the benefit of the doubt.
  13. Let him bomb it, worst case scenario 45 yd interception best case scenario touchdown. The deep throws look to be one his strength anyways. This year's WR core looks to be one of the most lethal ever. Tez looks like a legit threat to take it to the house every time. Holden is a solid possession guy, Hudson has become more consistent and smarter, Franklin is the man and almost always seams to have a step on the defense. With these guys he'd have a hard time not doing something great down field. All of these guys go and get the ball and don't wait for it to come to them, which I love to see. Please don't ask him to lightly throw a ball to someone behind him when there's better options.
  14. Already wise beyond his years, got to love a coaches kid. He looked very capable of having a big impact soon, with great instincts and the athleticism to keep with speedy WR.
  15. The SEC transfers looked good, a little rusty but an upgrade across the board. Happy with the secondary for the most part. Looked like the guys competing for starting positions where not giving up a lot of easy passes. TTs looking better but not great, first pass of the game was 6 for the defense. Funa looks like he's picking up where he left off and could be a big factor on the edge this year. Surprised the D line didn't get more pressure on the QB which might be due to not being able to touch him. Was hoping to see more out of the LBs.
  16. This team is really starting to run on all cylinders, both on offence and defend. Really fun to watch a team that disciplined and make very few mistakes. Go Ducks.
  17. Having the twin towers next year will be amazing.
  18. I know what they are trying to do I just don't like it nor do I think it's a great approach. The win now approach rarely works in college football, teams that have been together and work together come out on top most the time. Bryant quit the team after three games last season because he didn't get enough playing time. Those guys work out as long as you give them the ball a lot but if not they're nothing but a big distraction in the locker room. Looks like a very capable return man which we need but with the limited scholarships we have I think there's much thinner positions that need them more than the deepest WR room we've ever had.
  19. Bring in another WR that going to take time away from the development of an extremely talented group of underclassmen doesn't seem to me to be a good move. We've heard good things about these guys are they going to stick around and wait for their junior or senior year for playing time? Personally I think there's so much talent on the team at WR that backups would start on most teams. Develop them for the future and leave the scholarship for a TE.
  20. Great game, the pitching this year is really looking up and the batting is something to behold. When this team comes out swing watch out! The fielding has also been on point with very few errors and smart decision. How about that diving catch by Shade!
  21. That would be a shame for Bronny, from what I've seen he's going to need to make a big jump to be NBA ready. Even if he did get on the NBA team would they play him? The team dynamic would be very interesting and talk about a distraction. He's going to need two to three years minimum of college to get ready for the big league otherwise he's just jeopardizing his career. Then again I guess he doesn't need the money so if your ultimate goal is to practice and maybe play at the professional level with your old man then all the power to them. I haven't gotten the I'm NBA ready vibe from him unlike many of the five-star recruits.
  22. Shelstads looks to be the real deal and an early contributor to the Ducks. James and him seem to have a good chemistry together and could make up a core (think Pritchard and Duarte) duo for the next 2-4 seasons. Both of them are high energy hustle players that are quick on defense and deadly from outside. Dana is going to have to learn how to deal with media and for some reason I feel James is less of a primadonna than many of the five stars we had. From what I've seen of James he looks to be a team player and not afraid to play hard defense. Shelstad is going to need players around him, especially ones he can click with.
  23. Surprisingly I actually like the move, I think this kid will have work ethic, profession, overall great sense of the game. He's a dangerous three-point shooter which has been lacking the last 2 years. ( By the way Peyton put up a triple double today!) Like it or not it's all about the Brand now. This would raise the profile of the University of Oregon and add to their media rights perceived value. Ultimately raising the profile of the University of Oregon athletic programs. I don't know why but I get the feeling that this will not end up like the Balls in UCLA, unlike some five-star players he has more to prove and could be a solid three to four year contributor. We lacked depth in multi-year players that have always driven the program in the past. That combined with the media exposure good or bad drives the desirability of the organ media market higher. I don't like it but it seems to be the way it is now, just look at the University of Colorado.
  24. The come back from 10 down was a great game. Don't even know why I kept watching when I tunedin in the 3rd and saw the score, sure glad I did. The pitching, especially the bullpen looks better this year. To many times last year we just didn't finish the game strong from the mound.
