Ruh-Roh: A Bruin Brouhaha Beginning at QB?
I imagine he is getting NIL money and I do not see him leaving before the next transfer window opens up, if then. UCLA has a 3-game lightweight (although watch out for Coastal Carolina) OOC schedule. This should give Dante playing opportunities. The Bruins open the Pac-12 season in week 4 at Utah, I will not be surprised to see Dante start this game.

Ruh-Roh: A Bruin Brouhaha Beginning at QB?
Ask Nick Saban? Starting Pac-12 transfer QBs in 2023 - UW, WSU, OR, OR St, Cal, USC, AZ, Utah, CU. SEC - TN, So Car, KY, UF, Mizzou, Bama (?), Auburn, Ole Miss, LSU. B1G - Purdue, NEB, Iowa, Wisconsin, NW, Ill, Maryland, IN. This is the new norm and not the exception.

Ruh-Roh: A Bruin Brouhaha Beginning at QB?
However, he would not have started at Oregon and I think he starts before the season is halfway through.

2023 Season: Outlook, Projections, Opinions
I think this is way off the mark but please serve me some of that Pate. Goose, not Duck. If Pate's picks were to come to fruition it would be Ohio State and Penn State in the Rose Bowl and Oregon vs. Bama (GULP) in the Sugar Bowl. For this prediction to happen, Ohio State would have to finish 12-1/13-0 with Penn State at 11-1 getting in as a non-conference champ. I don't see this happening. The Rose Bowl would be a repeat of PSU at tOSU during the regular season. Again, I do not see this happening. Has Pate seen UGA's schedule? Roll the ball out on the field for 10 or 11 victories. It stinks that LSU will be down its best DL guy, thank you new NCAA boss Charlie Baker, for this, the Reggie Bush defamation suit, and the yo-yo in regard to Jim Harbaugh's penalty (meet the new boss, same as the old boss) but I, FWIW, see the following happening. 1. Georgia vs. 4. Clemson - Sugar Bowl 2. Ohio State vs. 3. Oregon - Rose Bowl Bama could have easily lost 4 and not 2 games last season. The quarterback situation at Bama is a mess. Bryce Young is in the NFL and not around to bail out Bama. Clemson gets FSU and Notre Dame in Death Valley. And I think Clemson will double up FSU in the ACC champ game. Other than a fortunate opening win against LSU last season, FSU's wins came mostly against teams with losing or .500 records. IMO, FSU is this season's 2022 Texas A+M.

Is Puddles related to Donald Duck?
Come 2024, I believe Oregon will be the only team in the nation paying money to Disney and getting nothing in return. That's not Donald, that's Mickey Mouse.

Three BOLD Predictions for Oregon Football in 2023
Thank you, JW, always great to have the opportunity to read your takes. Even with Bodacious dotting the landscape, I agree that for some reason the Ducks are flying under the nation's CFB elite team's radar. UNC QB preseason Drake Maye's pub is off the charts. As I recall, on a dinged leg Bo Nix outdueled Maye and UNC in the Holiday Bowl. Here is a stat from 2022 that I love. 2 RBs in the nation last season carried the ball 150 times or more and averaged over 6.5 yards a carry while doing so. One, UCLA's Zach Charbonnet is playing for the Seahawks. The other, Bucky Irving, will be on the field playing for Oregon in 2023. It seems that there are 3 general concerns about the Ducks this season. 1. Will the D improve? This IMO is the key to whether the Ducks go 9-3 or 12-1 this season. 2. The O line. There may be more talented guys out there but OL is a ballet and last season's group had more time together at the barre. Can the OL this season pave the way for Bucky and other talented backs and hold the opposition to 5 sacks as it did in 2022? 3. Will the coaching staff's in-game management improve? For the want of a punt, the UW game was lost. Where were the adjustments on D to hold down the Beavers' one-dimensional run game in the fourth quarter of last year's Civil War game? Dan Lanning's mentor, Kirby Smart, made some bone-headed decisions, the Justin Fields fake punt attempt, not being the deepest of the deep on Tua's OT-winning TD champ game throw, but Kirby's on-field coaching skills have with game experience dramatically improved. I believe we will see the same from DL and staff in 2023. Finally and this is the case for every football team no matter how talented, where will the football Good Gosh's fickle finger of fate point? Stuff will happen as it happened on the Palouse last season before Oregon made an amazing comeback in the game that in many ways tipped the season in the direction of success. This is the deepest the Pac-12 in its swan song, has been in decades if not ever. There will be no easy day within the conference and in Lubbock, Texas. Thanks again Joshua and ...

Potentially Positive
Great take. I think the SEC and B1G will control the format for the coming 16-team playoff. A bone will have to be thrown to a G5/6 team if not ranked in the top 16. I do not see automatic bids for conference champions and I see seeding according to the rankings and not the top 4 ranked conference champions seeded 1 to 4. And more money will go to the conferences that place the most teams in the field and the teams that advance through the field as is the case with the CBB tourney today. And the specific teams that make the playoff from a given conference will get a bigger share than their conference mates. Of course, as consolidation continues and the Power 2 adds more teams, we may simply have an AFL - B1G vs. NFL - SEC playoff. With 'hush money' paid other conferences to keep the lawyers and politicians at bay. Bring Clemson, FSU, Notre Dame, UNC, and others into the Power 2, and what teams out there will have a realistic shot at the title? Unlike CBB, a mid-major will not win football championships. If CFB does go to a 16-team playoff I see the participating players, under some kind of NIL arrangement or as bargained with a players' union, receiving a percentage of the proceeds. The progression to NFL Lite appears to be inexorable.

Oregon State: America's Team?
Great post. But doing what to student-athletes? The student-athletes at Hawaii have been traveling like this for decades. Last seen the Hawaii football team was opening the season in Nashville. Crickets. In post-season play, the NCAA has had athletes going hither and yon for decades. Now it's an issue? I feel for the Beavers and Cougars but both schools took the big-time media money. There are no 'clean hands' here. CFB realignment is the result of any business that is capitalized and long ago surrendered collegiality and student 'welfare' for money. The Pac-12 did not have to go for the BCS and the need for 1 True Champion. The Pac-12 could have decided to be the Ivy League II. Didn't happen. Money is not evil. The love of money is evil. IMO, OREGON made the right move and is headed to exactly where it is supposed to be. And J. Smith's multi-million dollar+ salary will not be reduced when OSU migrates to the MW or to the AAC.

2023 Season: Outlook, Projections, Opinions
Closer to what once was home. Predicting the 10 biggest upsets involving Pac-12 football teams for 2023 SATURDAYOUTWEST.COM Which Pac-12 squads are most primed to pull off an upset or two in 2023? Here's a hint: One team in particular is Primed to surprise all onlookers. Oregon is currently -12.5 vs. UW. I never bet against Oregon but this is a healthy spread for a game being played in Seattle. Oregon is currently -4.5 vs. USC so a win by the Ducks will hardly be an upset. Gold's research is not that golden.

2023 Season: Outlook, Projections, Opinions
Not good for Dilly and the decision to not play a bowl game in 2023 means that the Sun Devils will have the pitchfork sharpened when the Ducks come to town. A late-season loss in Tempe is not a movie that I want to watch again. I agree, Orlando. 10 conference games. And 13 regular season games for Notre Dame if the Domers want to stay independent and qualify for the playoff 10 of the games vs. P4 competition. But why are you selling the UMass Minutemen short? Big win over NM State in Prime-Time on ESPN! Meanwhile, the Larry gift that keeps on giving managed to hide the 2022 Heisman winner under a bushel. With Oregon opening against Portland State on Saturday on Larry's Loser Network, I suspect the same number of viewers will not be tuning in as tuned in last season's opener versus Georgia. But I expect that Puddles will be doing far more push-ups than in the ATL. Meanwhile, San Jose State did not go down without a fight! And The Grinch who stole defense has SC's D looking much better. Right? SC put up 500+ yards on O but its leading rusher only went for 54 yards. It's one game JJ so chill. But if SC had played Notre Dame yesterday I think the Domers, its O-line and run game would have beat down Troy.
-
UO Hype Video
WEEK 0 - Notre Dame vs. Navy - Somebody up there doesn't like ships. USC vs. San Jose State - Troy puts up over 500 yards of O. But that D still has a long way to go. Vandy vs. Hawaii - OK, it was Vandy. But Hawaii played decent ball vs. Vandy and never quit. UMass (!) gets a prime-time win over NM State on ESPN.

SC doubles up SJS - 52 - 28. The SC O? Awesome. The D/ Still very much a WIP. Show me the MONEY! The Over 66 bet was like stealing. A good way to get the 2023 season started.
