I'm Lightheaded....'Oregon is a Physical Team!'

While that is true, if they did show up though, it would be great for campus. I'd take it. -

Should Bryce Boettcher Focus on Football?
DanLduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Absolutely not! He is 1 of 15 college kids in America. Pretty elite company. If he can do it, he should continue. Making pro in any sport is a long shot. Few do it. He should enjoy the ride as long as possible. Perhaps being a 2 sport kid enhances his NIL opportunities. Also, he is a walk on football dude. The only $$ help for school is his baseball schollie. If he gets a full ride, and coaches ask him to, I could see him giving up bball. Until then, keep it going. -

Ducks Football: 5 Keys to Beating Utah on the Road
DanLduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Control the line of scrimmage. It may be something always said, but very true this time. Utah has a great defense. They play hard, fast and tackle well. They are very good at getting to the qb. They also have to rely on their run game. They cannot depend on the pass. They call a lot of qb runs, swapping personnel at qb. So, we need to slow down their run game. Bring the safeties up regularly. Play lock down coverage on the wr's. We have the personnel to do it. Popo, Taki, Brandon can close up the middle, and our edge boys must contain. LB's are improved with Jacobs now playing. With Kyree back, I'm feeling very good about shutting down the Utah offense. They haven't played a team as good or as deep as us yet. We will need a good run game. Both Bucky and James are hard to bring down, they both need to continue their excellent play. Lastly, no costly penalties. This is a tough one. I think Oregon has suffered from more bad calls (and bad non-calls) than from actual bad play. At least in recent games. And we can do nothing about that, except to play as clean and as hard as we can. If we play as we are capable, and the officiating is reasonable and at least equitable, I really think we can win this game comfortably. Shut down the run. Protect Bo. Run the ball successfully. Do that we win big. Nothing to it. -
Last week in Seattle was a massive game, lots of great storylines, and plenty of emotion. On and off the field. We watched our Ducks Saturday "sleep walk" through the 1st half (as some have called it) and then we saw UW stumble on the road to hang on for a win against lowly ASU. (Side note on ASU, they have been snakebit with injuries, yet are playing every team tough. Pretty impressive) So I'm wondering what y'all on OBD think now after watching all the results from sat. I personally think the Ducks responded better to the loss, than UW did to the win. I do think this was first time all year we came close to playing "down" to the competition. And, I'm glad we get Utah after their emotional win over USuC.

To be honest, my favorite tailgating food is whatever is being served, and drinking whatever is the coldest! We don't usually make it to a lot of games, but we get "ducked up" every Saturday and when the son and grandkids come over I grill meat and the wife makes all kinds of finger foods. Our grandkids actually like veggies, so we always have a huge veggie and dip platter, but only yellow and green colored veggies. Never carrots!

Questions About the New Coaches Lanning Hired?
DanLduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Great timing for this information Charles. With all of us still stinging over a loss to the hated dawgs, it's great to recognize how good our coaching staff is. What's really awesome is how young so many are, we can have years of continued success as a staff. What's also relevant is how recruits view our staff. In just 2 years, Oregon is back to being an offense that's fast, fun and innovative, but at the same time accompanied by a defense that can be frightening to opposing offenses. As we move into the B1G, our viewership will skyrocket (already last week over 7M) and with the NIL group support, we shouldn't miss out on too many targets. It will be nice to someday win them all, but until then, you gotta admit, this is one helluva ride! -
Oregon Ducks Among Nation’s Best Despite Washington Loss
DanLduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks Jordan, I agree completely with your perspective. This game is a classic to watch again and appreciate how good our defense was in that 2nd half. They gave the offense enough opportunities to win...and we came this close! It hurts to lose. It hurts worse when it's Udub. So now we get to see the emotional strength of our boys. The real character of this team will shine through. How we respond to adversity, this loss, will mean everything. I almost feel sorry for WSU...well, not really. Everyone going to the game this week, save your voice, get plenty of rest, drink extra fluids (preferably water ) and give it your all on Sat. Goooooo Ducks!!!! -
Coaching a Shootout vs Coaching a Chess Match
DanLduck replied to The Kamikaze Kid's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
When a play doesn't work, why is it always the coaches fault? If the players don't execute properly, any play can fail. As noted, Oregon won basically every category statistics wise. That seems to me to suggest a good game plan by the coaches. No one is complaining about going for 2 pts, twice! Because they worked. That 2nd time was genius cuz it kept the score within 3. Lewis has been great this year, no one thought he would miss. I for one have no issues with the coaching decisions. The players didn't execute. Sometimes games come down to a couple big plays. Our guys just weren't able to make one more big play. They played their hearts out for the full 60 minutes. No doubt in my mind that we win in OT. I hope we get a rematch this year in Vegas. We have the players and the coaches to get us there. -
Why I Have No Problem With the Last 4th-Down...
DanLduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It's hard not to be critical of coaching decisions when plays don't work. Especially the obvious ones. But the truth is we outplayed UW, we just didn't outscore them. Time of possession Yards passing yards rushing 1st downs That magnificent goal-line stand Our coaches had a good game plan. We don't want to admit it, but UW is a really good football team. And that Penix kid was nothing short of spectacular. We pressured him, hurried him, even got some good hits on him, and he still threw accurate balls. In a game with many great plays, this game was won and lost by only a few plays. Unfortunately for us, our guys weren't the ones who made them. This time. There is no shame in losing to a good team. I'm looking forward to the rematch. Hopefully that will be on 12/1 in Vegas. For me, calling those plays we are questioning, shows how much Lanning & co believe in his players. I have no problem with that. -
Some Perspective on Dan Lanning as a Head Coach
DanLduck replied to Tandaian's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm still on board the Lanning express. I'm still a believer in him. Wouldn't want any other head coach. Gotta take the good with the bad. But boy, that loss stung a bit. As bad as we feel, imagine how the seniors must feel. The worst part to me is how similar to last year this loss was. Ouch. Those who ignore the past are inclined to repeat it. Apparently. Positive takeaways for me: Half-time adjustments. I thought the d was better 2nd half. Good job by coaches. That goal line stand. Impressive. And I'm now a Penix believer. We pressured him, hit him hard, and he still made amazing throws with great accuracy. The kids a baller. Season is far from lost. We have lots of football left. Now the most important game is the next one. One game at a time. -

High Anxiety: What Sedative Are YOU Taking for the Game?
DanLduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Martinis. Several. But not till after the game. Win or lose they lower my BP. During the game I pace. I yell at the TV. And I high-five my wife after every good play. Oh, and I eat licorice vines. Sometimes several bags! -
Can We PLEASE Bring On The Vitriol And Hate!
DanLduck replied to SmithRiverDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I live in Beaverton. Some years ago, maybe 2009 or 10, there was construction on Hwy 217 (isn't there always!) and over the weekend some heavy equipment was left roadside. One of these was a big lift, that for security purposes I guess, was left in the full extended mode. Sometime during the weekend, some husky fan climbed that thing and put a purple UW flag at the top. Being the Duck fan I am, I was somewhat distressed by this. But, on my way to work mon am, I noticed someone else had climbed up and spray painted 0 -12 on that flag! One of the best am commutes of my life!! -
Is Oregon Flashy Enough for Bo To Win a Heisman?
DanLduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
How many former Heisman winners have been on non-playoff teams? Can't be the best in CFB if your team isn't, at least according to voters. Bo is on the outside looking in. He won't have gaudy stats (tho 80% passing is right up there). The best thing for him is for the team to just keep winning. If we/he beats UW, beats USC, beats OSU and wins Pac12, he will be in New York. Wins against those other candidates will be considered as out performing them. And even with just his average performance so far in those games, he will have enough stats to look legitimate. I hope GameDay crowd this week is inundated with Bo- dacious signs. And Corso puts on the Duck head! -
Maybe Sione recognizes the value of a head coach that knows when to take a knee!

Future Non-Conference Games in the Big-Ten?
DanLduck replied to Thomallister1291's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I for one would enjoy OOC against any P5 team, but, having to go through the strength of the B1G every year, I don't want to see the likes of Alabama except in a major bowl. I want to see if future playoff committee's actually give value to sos scheduling. -
You can't win the Heisman if your team doesn't win big. USuC won't beat ND, O, or UCLA. Can't be the "best" if your team isn't.

Canzano: Oregon to Get a Rude Awakening in the B1G?
DanLduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think Canzano hated Belotti and struggled with Chip like all media did. I think too that he was after "clicks" for sake of Oregonian. Since he's been solo, he seems less biased. That said, the Beavs have been and always will be the underdog in this state. It's always easier rooting for them. One more reason I love the Lanning hire. He is such a solid, likeable human, how can anyone root against him. -
Can't wait to see a backdrop of Bo-dacious signs! (And maybe a few dozen wsu banners)

Do Oregon Fans ‘GET’ How Special the 2023 Team Is?
DanLduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I love Joey, one of my all time favorite Ducks, but he is in error here. We already know what kind of team we have this year, I think we are all (save maybe Charles) just too afraid to embrace it. Think about it, the Ducks are better in every area: speed, tackling, running to the ball, one on one DB coverage, rushing the qb, even stopping a running game (take out TS #'s from game 2 and its really good). Our offense is scoring points like it was 2012 and the d is elite. We've beaten every team handily except TT. Our first road game in a very hostile environment. But we held on for the W. This year is special. I don't think there is any doubt we can play with any team out there. That we do know. But to get there, we now get to go through the meat of our schedule. Every game is critical. So much could go wrong. But so much can go right! So I'm with Charles, with the leadership we have on the team this year, 2023 is the year of the Duck!
