  1. Like all of us here at OBD, I hope Marcus gets a real chance to shine in Washington. He deserves the opportunity to prove he is no "0", and be excellent again.
  2. Avoiding the "rat poison" is part of Lanning & co. job in selecting quality of character, not just great athletes. So far they seem to be doing excellent in this area. I see the potential for earning $$ as potentially taking the "hunger" edge from players, especially if they are believing all their news clippings. But having such a deep roster leads to that competition for playing time and helps keep the edge. 67% blue-chip roster. We're gaining on those blue-blood programs every year.
  3. Man, that was fun! I remember we was rockin' it in our house that day. Even the grandkids were high-fiven!! Can't wait for more. Sco Ducks!!
  4. My son and I have bonded going to many Duck games over the years. The first memorable one was UCLA in '88. We walked on the field after and stood next to Troy Aikman. Couldn't believe how big he was for a qb! Later, when he had his own kids, we watched on the big TV my wife bought for us (with Duck football and family being her motivation) and always got "ducked out" and grilled in the backyard aka tailgate style. To this day, Duck football is our biggest bond.
  5. I thought about Dante at UCLA, but CK has had so much success before him I gave it a mention. I believe their run game will the best in years and Howard has game experience, DM didn't. I also think this move rejuvenates CK. Might get those innovative juices flowing. I just remember him turning Dixon into a legitimate Heisman candidate after he left that summer to play baseball, and then winning our bowl game with the 4th string qb after all the injuries we had. I'm betting his success at tOSU will make him a hc candidate again. Anyway, I'm glad we're in the B1G.
  6. I gotta say, thinking the Ducks could go undefeated in their inaugural year in the B1G, with such a difficult SOS... ...is simply amazing. Amazing! We have come a very long way. While I believe we can win every game, doing so requires some fortunate bounces along the way. Besides reasons suggested by others, I think tOSU is going to be really tough. That new OC of theirs really knows how to get the most from his qb. By the time Oct.12 gets here, their offense will be hitting on all cylinders. It will be one great game. The injury bug is always a concern, but we've never been this deep, especially the qb room. It seems we have guys at every position ready, wanting, to be the next man up. Can't wait to get started. Bring on the Vandals!
  7. All excellent points fellow OBD readers. Remember, travel duress isn't just the time in the air. Time zone changes, sleeping in different beds(not your own), missing classes in person, remembering to pack everything you need...there are lots of little things that make travel difficult. The worst will be traveling commercial if they have to. But I agree that most new travel won't be much more then what they have now. And it could foster better team unity. My last thought is with NIL and other future monies coming, it's best players learn to travel like a "professional".
  8. Ahh, jealousy is not a good look. Nor makes good quotes. Proof is in the pudding. Let the games begin, we will see the results clearly.
  9. I no longer pay much attention to potential recruits anymore. It's simply a casual observance now to give me something to read about the Ducks in the off-season. We've had huge roster turnover the last few years and so I've decided to wait until August each year to pay much attention to who's who. The portal has changed everything for me. Now, guys I was all excited about transfer out too. So it's wait and see for me. Plus, with Oregon now considered a top destination, every recruit will put us in their top "whatever". So making a top 4 or 5 is like, meh. It's a way to brag. The fact that Lanning & Co. are bringing in so many blue chips is utterly amazing. It's a whole new era in Eugene. Imagine how crazy recruiting will be after we win our first Natty!
  10. While we have had excellent stars in the NFL, the thought of Nix and Franklin lighting things up on the same team, like wow! It makes my mouth water. And in the same conference as Justin! Bo's success at Oregon surely influenced Gabriel (as did the Marcus connection) to head west. Bo doing well can only help aid our recruiting. Already we have an amazing qb room, Akilil Jr coming, and maybe the #1 WR in the nation! With coach Lanning, our amazing facilities, the best NIL group in the country, now a part of the B1G, the Nike connection, and former stars excelling all over the league... ...man, the future looks impressive. And the future is now! Is it Aug 31st yet?
  11. A tank with speed and great field visibility!
  12. If I recall, DL has stated they are always looking to better the team. It's the # of schollies that is always the issue. Yes, a good center is key! And we've been blessed with great ones at Oregon. Definitely sounds like a good match. Does he have a redshirt year left?
  13. There is still good baseball there, isn't there? Fresno St., San Diego St., Sacramento St?
  14. All of us here at OBD knew this would happen when it appeared no other conference was interested in taking them in. We just didn't realize it would be so sudden. If they stay with MWC teams, I don't see Civil War games continuing yearly, for any sports, save maybe baseball. They won't want that beat down every year. I don't feel sorry for them one bit. All I've ever heard from that fan base is negative, smart a$$ comments. I do try to temper my joy though, it's not good to rejoice at others misfortune, but laughing, that's fine. 😆 🤣
  15. I for one, am not a big fan of the new tech being used in today's sports. I prefer the fallibility of the human element. The ability to read defenses or the offensive play call, is what separates good from great. Using technology to override penalty calls or first down yardage, etc, takes away from the flow of the game and allows for refs not to worry about getting the call right first time. Cuz it can be corrected on review. Thanks David for the excellent explanation. I'm sure Lanning and Co. will master the tech well. I hope it results in better Duck success.
  16. How far back are they planning to go in paying former players? I almost played in 1976....
  17. This has to be satire. Or long shot bets for Vegas. Every one of those picks is hardly believable by each one's fan base! Let alone all 5?! This is why women shouldn't be allowed to vote (a sexist would say) Just kidding 🙃
  18. While it's great to get all those eyes on Oregon on a Fri night, that Purdue game just took on a whole new twist. A short week, on the road, after tOSU... It reads trap game all over it. Oh well. That's why DL is trying so hard to be 4 deep at every position. It's a long season. Bring 'em on!
  19. Charles, you sum it up well for me. What got me super into believing in our Ducks were the Joey Harrington years. I know he wasn't a coach, but if he had the ball in the 4th qtr, I believed we could win. I've been believing ever since. Chip raised the bar, but Dan is running away from the Pac! 😉
  20. I find this report very disturbing. With the huge increase in online gambling opportunities, access to everyone via social media, and all the NIL, this could easily become serious, even life threatening. I shouldn't be surprised, but how do you go about defending against it? Every athelete have armed security? Schools employ online sleuths to weed out jerks? Maybe it's making a mountain out of a mole hill...pro sports and gambling have been around for a long time. Let's hope it doesn't amount to much.
  21. I say, enjoy the ride while you can. College football is not done with its changes yet, and I'm sure we will bemoan them as they happen. But Charles, you pretty well summed it all up. Sad, disbelief, to surprise, and now elation. And now, there will be no excuse for belittling our Ducks from east coast pundits. In fact, the early preseason polls show our Ducks getting plenty of love. Would that have been the case if we were still Pac12? Plus it will be great fun to see all these B1G teams in Autzen. Or always on TV. I too get irked that we have to take less$$, but it's more then it would have been. And the advantage to recruiting! Great coaches. Great facilities. Top NIL deals. Great fan base. And without question, great competition and great exposure. Can't wait for season to start.
  22. The site corrected itself. It had the schedule reversed at first. Good for them.
  23. They got home and away games mixed up for the 2024 season. Don't know if other year's games are correct.
