Something SC fans are forgetting, tax rates in CA are much, much higher than in OR. Their NIL would have to offer at least 35-50% more for same $$. Then there's OR with a better rated D... better rated O-line. Maybe players just want better coaching. Just sayin.

Oregon Football Reveals New Uniform Combination Details
DanLduck replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
My only concern is that Nike's latest uniforms have garnered some extreme resistance of late. The new Paris Olympics uniforms and the MLB uni's. I hope they don't whiff on the Ducks. That would be 3 strikes! -
2024 College Football Strength-of-Schedule Rankings
DanLduck replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
A roasting yes, now, in May. Come November, they won't say a word. It's been like this since the first BCS, or even before. If the Pac had only played 8 conf games, the rankings would have not been so skewed to the SEC. This is major reason I don't necessarily want a " National Champion" in football. We don't all play the same teams and so much depends on subjective rationale and the ol' "eye test". Well, if they can agree finally on a more level playing field, great! Being in the B1G is now of supreme importance. Hate to see the Pac go, but college sports is headed into a whole new game and I'm glad for Oregon sakes we are now B1G. -
My question, we are now apparently at the 85 schollie limit. With the portal closed, how do they go after the safety from Bama or the big lineman from MSU? Where/how do they get 2 more spots?

Pac-12 Network Goes DARK on June 30th...
DanLduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I wish the school would buy all the Duck games and replay them on the Oregon sports network. I'll miss watching the old games, especially the games in 60 minutes -
Bryce Boettcher to Drop Football, Focus on Baseball?
DanLduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
If true, we would now be down to 85 players on scholarship. Bryce did see his playing time diminish as the season wore on last year. I enjoyed having a 2 sport kid, but with all the competition, it must be extremely difficult to maintain. -
Totally agree Charles. Novasad was the best qb by far on sat. Moga shows he's got chops too. And Dante has the physical tools. We are indeed deep. And Akili Smith Jr. is arriving next year! I know it's just a spring game but was disappointed with Gabriel. His long balls weren't even close, and if Tez hadn't been making terrific catches, his completions would have been even more down. These are just my untrained observations and thoughts. The thing is, Austin is the only qb who was here last year, the others just got here in Jan. Maybe it's no surprise he looked the most comfortable with receivers routes and offensive timing. He certainly provides confidence in that qb room.

"A wrong was done, and is now corrected" I don't agree. Reggie Bush and family did receive benefits that at the time were against ncaa rules. Those penalties, including losing the Heisman, were earned. That wasn't a wrong. However, with changing times, the rules have changed. Reinstating Bush seems a logical step. But it's not correcting a wrong. Let's not rewrite history.

Even if there is more upheaval in conference alignments, what makes anyone think there would be interest in either Pig-2 team?! They have already been rejected by the other P4 conferences. Their only hope is to combine with MWC and hope that 2 National championships will arise, one for D1 P4 schools and one for all the others. With students being deemed employees just around the corner, and profit sharing of some sort most likely, they won't want that headache. So being a champ in a D1a league is their best hope. Then we could get 2 Natty's in our state, the real one, us, and a B level league for the river rats.

Mr. Fishduck, you're a better man than I. I have unsuscribed from Canzano. Can't take the nonsense. But I appreciate you passing on the few decent tidbits. I think what sets coach Lanning apart is that he genuinely cares about people, even journalists, so called( though I think he just tolerates Crepea). He certainly knows how to set a table.. ..now we just got to run the course.

Want to Win a Natty? You Better Be Blue Chip
DanLduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Coach DL has already shown his plan to rotate players as much as possible. Lots of guys have had minutes, few have been getting tons. This helps keep bodies fresh, and perhaps last through a long season. Getting 4 games for freshmen will be invaluable. And being stacked at each position will keep everyone ready/desiring to play. With all the rule changes the past few years to increase safety for the players, it's a bit mind-boggling to see it could take 17 games to produce a national champion. And playing top ranked teams as OOC games seems even more foolish looking at a 17 game schedule! Coach DL certainly seems ahead of the game in player usage strategy. -
I think the article has merit. It would be fun to see some of those games. But, only if the G5 travel to Autzen and the others, in the playoffs. Playing in the B1G now gives us less wiggle room for scheduling, even with expanded playoff. Oregon should have no problem scheduling home games now and getting whomever they want. Having B1G teams now show up to Autzen yearly will make tickets a high demand item for several years. It's time the AD took Jon J's scheduling advice.

Locklyn is NOT Happy With Dan Lanning...
DanLduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Who pulled "don't call me Carlos", out of W. Kentucky and put him on the big stage? I'm surprised coach "lock" would throw shade at DL. I've heard coach Lanning say those exact words after other coaching changes, "a change is a chance to improve". And it looks like he did. It's also interesting the new coach got an additional assistant coach title as well. Could be to justify pay increase or could be an effort to keep coach Samples in the fold for at least a few years. Also interesting, we lost a couple RB's to the portal soon after CL was hired, thus his softbatch cookie comment. I see tOSU has just lost a RB. Seems to be a pattern. Can't wait to see them in Autzen. Sco Ducks!! -
Oregon Ducks to Hire Arizona State’s Ra’Shaad Samples as New RB Coach
DanLduck replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Looks like, sounds like, another terrific hire by coach Lanning. "Every opportunity is a chance to improve". Great recruiter. Personal. Great teacher of the game. A perfect Lanning coach! Sco Ducks!! -
I used to claim we called the rivalry game the "Civil War" because of our civility towards each other. Many (most?) of us are related to or work closely with fans of that large water rodent team. So there is less reason to "hate" those guys. Plus we win more than lose, at least in recent years. So from my perspective, it's not a betrayal to root for the "other team" as an OBD member occasionally. I do question the wearing of orange/black when not losing a bet... But to each his own. But can you imagine running into Mr Fishduck at the market wearing orange! Lord have mercy! As for Pig2 stealing $$, what goes around, comes around. I expect they will end up being just an average G5 team.

When Oregon announced it was headed to the B1G, there was a lot of negative energy in the state, much emanating from Salem. That years Civil War game, in Autzen, was SRO. (Possibly because many thought it might be the last). It is possible that Oregon felt the need to show goodwill to their "lil' brother", and the good folks in Salem, and so jumped through hoops to help OSU as well as WSU ( they got TTU as a home game). Also, fans seemed to want it. But there is no reason to continue on a yearly basis. Maybe every 3rd or 4th year, and most always in Autzen. (While other power house schools don't travel to G5 schools, they also don't have a century+ history of previous rivalry.) Oregon citizens of the entire state deserve to have some type of continuation of the game. Most of us want it, just not yearly. Also, the disparity between the 2 schools with regards to quality players will only increase. I have to believe it will become much tougher each year for the Beavs to win. They won't want a yearly beat down anymore than we do. Well, actually, I could maybe handle 13 in a row...1 more than the dawgs!

By Bailing at 'Halftime' Pat Chun Becomes Jayden de Laura of ADs
DanLduck replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
In the end, after a while, coug fans will get used to being in the G-5 league, where they should have been all along. They compare much better to Boise St then UW (sportswise). And by 2030, when Ducks are getting the $$$$ yearly income and 90% blue-chip studs players, WSU will be a much forgotten blip from the past. Wait till there best players transfer out each year. -
Heavy Hangover for Salty Gamecock Fans...
DanLduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks Charles. Tour 2 posts on USC(e) were a delight to read while drinking my morning Java, though I almost spit it out a few times laughing. Thanks again -
It's one thing to keep the Pac12 monies from back-up rainy day fund, but monies from the "big dance" when your school isn't even a participant?! I must concur with Mr. Fishduck, Pig-2 is a much better name. You would think there would be grounds for a legal pursuit, but with legal costs it might not be worth the effort. I venture to say that this $$ is more than any TV contract they might get in the future. 16 - 20 M divided by 3 - 6years won't go too far anyway. But the principle of fairplay, not applicable to Pig-2.

What were Oregon State and WSU Supposed to Do?
DanLduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks for this.post. We may not like it, but it's clear in the contractual agreement. These monies will help those 2 schools for only so long. The latest announcements from new CFP prove they are relegated to G5 status, at best. And realistically justified. Their only hope for blue-chip players will be NIL. I'm betting even the Civil War game will lose interest and become less then yearly. -
I find it slightly humorous that coaches (and players) lose so much of their luster when they no longer wear yellow and green (or whatever other colors the Ducks are currently modeling). The Chipper took a good offense and made it amazing. He made Dixon into a potential Heisman candidate (before injury) when Dixon was so unsure about football he played baseball the summer prior. Between the CK offense, and the Fishduck website, football is not the same anywhere. One of the reasons CK was so successful at Oregon, he had better players to work with. He may have even better players at tOSU. They need a better run game, maybe now they'll have one. And even though good teams have caught up to the spread, playing at tempo is still tough for everyone. I think a happier Chip will make for a more productive Chip. He doesn't have to score 40 per game in the B1G to win, just against the likes of Oregon. I'm so glad we play them in Autzen. I'll always love CK for what he did here, but I want him to continue to go 0- Fer against us in Autzen. Sco Ducks!

The Climb - 2024 Oregon Football Winter Workouts - Episode 1
DanLduck replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
wow! -
I find the wave useful only when it helps wake a crowd up and get involved. This is very seldom the need at Autzen. Along with other mentioned displays done, I like it when the cheerleaders lead one side of stadium to yell "go" and the otherside answer "Ducks". However, in defense of the "wave", in my younger days, I was "that guy" who started the wave regularly. Mostly at Portland Winterhawk hockey games. My lovely bride would hide her head in embarrassment. Oh well, those were the good ol' days. Go Ducks!

Chip Kelly Leaving UCLA For OC Job At Ohio State!

Quite true. Dante sure left in a hurry. -
Chip Kelly Leaving UCLA For OC Job At Ohio State!
DanLduck replied to Babyjesus615's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
An interesting move indeed. But it's a good move for Chip. He has had the opportunity to be head coach at several great locations, and at age 60, has decided what might make him enjoy life more. I'm sure the current era of NIL and transfer portal has made his "love" of recruiting even less so. Yes, as OC he still needs to recruit, but only for one side of the game, and without the responsibility for everything. He still attracts great offensive talent, Dante Moore is a fine example. He was strong Oregon all the way until Chip flipped him. He also has had great RB's in his system routinely. I expect he will do well as OC at tOSU. Probably not as successful as at Oregon, but I expect better than what tOSU has been of late. As for $$, I'm sure by now he has saved more then he might ever use. He has learned by now that $$ means little if you ain't happy. And the move to Ohio should save plenty in taxes and cost of living. I look forward to seeing tOSU play. Watching fast, hard, finish football is fun and entertaining. I'm still glad we have our coaches. Will S. is half Chip's age and just as wiley. And there ain't no one else out there that comes close to our coach DL. So let's Go Ducks!! Bring it on Buckeyes!
