K kid, you're remarkable.

Still need to win out. Starting this sat at 4pm against the purple poodles! Lots of great football left. Who would of thought we would be here last Labor day?!

Here is my 2 cents worth: I believe coach Lanning will stay as long as we want him. He has moved his young family 5 or 6 times already. In his own words he waited for a great opportunity to be head coach. He has one. He will only move if his family is unhappy in the PNW. Auburn is NOT a better opportunity than Oregon. Too much pressure to win now. Plus, you have to beat Alabama EVERY year. And you'd be looking over your shoulder worried about getting axed constantly. Oregon is a premier program to coach at. There are few places better (unless you are an alumni from somewhere else) The support the football program gets from the school, town and alumni is top notch. Pretty much anything coach wants, he'll get. Our only drawback is being located outside of football hot recruiting area. But our coaches have shown that too is not a problem. Last thought, if we are to have a successful program, other schools will always want to poach some success and hire away our staff. Look at Alabama and Saban, they have constant turnover, and yet still win. If we win, this is something we'll have to get used to.

Here's the rub, after this sat, UT or UGA will also be a one loss team. Mich. plays tOSU last game of season, so potentially one of them will also be a one loss team. Say UT loses, as does Mich. Say Alabama beats UGA for SEC title. You would end up with: Georgia Tennessee Michigan Alabama Oregon all as 1 loss teams. If Clemson stays undefeated its tough to move ahead of all those other 1 loss teams Fortunately, there is a lot of football left to play for all those teams, not the least of which is us. UW, Utah, OSU(at their place) and winner of the LA schools will be all tough games. What a great season this has turned out to be already.

I know it's easy to do, and it's tempting, but every decision made by a big time recruit isn't necessarily due to NIL. We have seen abuses far and wide, and will continue to, but MC was rocking the recruiting before NIL. If you notice, Bo is getting big bucks. So is Flowe. Many others also. The same can be said of us about high profile recruits. The big difference is we want recruits who want to work hard, not party hard.

Don't forget a lot of points are coming against the defense in the 4th quarter after the game is in hand. A combination of 2nd and 3rd string players and maybe a natural inclination to ease off the gas a little. Also note that so far, Lanning has made zero attempts to run up a score or even add points when not necessary. He had said the most important defensive stat is W and L's.

Worried About Oregon PEAKING Too Early?
DanLduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It's hard to be critical of a guy who throws for 412 yds and gets 6 TD's, but, I think Bo had his worst game of the year (not counting UGA). Many throws were late, and a lot were low, even when we caught them. That said, Bo is still playing great and I'm not complaining, just observing. Next week we need to be able to rest him most of 2nd half. Last 3 games will decide our post season location. -
Tunnel Fight After Michigan, Michigan State Game
DanLduck replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Clearly sending both teams up the same tunnel at the same time has become a bad idea in this age of poor character and accepted violence. UM needs to let visiting teams exit first. Both teams should be fined. MSU more. UM because it's 2nd time in a couple weeks, they share responsibility. -
GameDay Thread versus Cal: Join Us!
DanLduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yeah!! Patrick Herbert scores!! -
Thanks for posting this article. Cam has incredible perseverance. We all share in the joy of his successes on and off the field. A true man of Oregon.

What a great first! Hard to live up to that, but enjoy that Cal game! Those fans won't be as loud.

The biggest problem with NIL is the lack of clarity and different rules for different states. For instance, no kid should be allowed any conversation about NIL until actually enrolled. So far, the big $$ doesn't seem to be making for a better product on the field. At Oregon, top paid athelete is Sedona Prince. Next is Bo. He's earning his. Next is Justin Flowe. He seems to not living up to his hype. So hopefully, universal rules will help level things out, encourage players to stay another year, and the on field failures will discourage over zealous alumni.

Also, is the Texas O-line earning the $50k each was promised? Seems like the schools handing out cash (see aTm and UT and Miami to name a few) are not doing so well. I'll take the hard working coachable guys any day.. Plus,, seems to me Klemm and Co. have improved our O-line. I'm trusting their evaluation skills until proven otherwise.
-
Coach has confidence in his process. They not only bring in talented guys, but solid character, hard working guys. Coachable guys. These are the best kind. I believe we will get our blue-chip studs too, but like the man says, can't teach 6'6 and 330!!

I agree totally. Dillingham won't take just any job. Like Lanning, it will need to be a good fit.
-
Like Dan Lanning, KD will wait for a good opportunity. Not any opportunity. Oregon will increase salary if necessary, but KD will not leave for any program, it will take an ideal opportunity.

It is amazing after reading week 1 comments, to read so many thoughts of Bo staying. He has earned them though. Let me add a couple observations: 1) Bo is taking only 1 class. I don't think he has any desire of a graduate degree. 2) he is currently earning over $400k with NIL. If he can't get more than that in the draft, that could be an influence. And 3) it's hard to improve your draft stock any more when your best season ever is your senior year I believe he will be gone after this year. And I believe Dillingham stays.

I thought last week that this game was going to answer a lot of our questions. And boy, did it ever. My biggest enjoyment is seeing how well the team was coached, from start to finish. Excellent control of the game clock (one delay of game) Great play calling by the offense. Timely use of trick plays. Gutsy 4th down calls. Great design using different alignments on offense. Even better special teams, a perfectly played onside kick! (We do seem to lack a big threat return man) Our first over 40 yd field goal. Our offense kept the Bruin defense off balance the whole game. One minor/major? concern: Linebackers and our defense. We need to get better at containment and coverage. Flowe made a few egregious decisions on his leverage and tackling. Addison played great on his return, maybe he can help out here with increased minutes. Offensively we can hang with anyone. But to win against the top teams, our D needs to improve. We didn't force a single punt, but our offense played so wonderfully, controlling the game clock we got away with it. I'm so excited the coaching was so awesome. It was a big win, but the great, gutsy, timely coaching leaves me so hopeful for the future, I'm almost breathless.

Oregon Ducks on Late Kick With Josh Pate
DanLduck replied to David Marsh's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
A good listen from someone with a natural east/south bias. -
I heard Lanning tell the Baker kid (an o-line recruit) that the Georgia game was his least favorite, but that it gave a positive force to the team by giving them motivation to practice harder and do the work each day. Maybe that spanking in Atlanta was just what we needed. Lots of football left. But, the big goal is still on the table. One week, one game at a time. Go Ducks!
-
Good write up. We do control our own destiny. Lots of tough football still to go. We keep improving that 1% each week...we will make the playoffs. One week, one game at a time.

Not only class, but he showed some real coaching chops with the play calling and game plan. Looked like he was putting on a clinic!

Fast FishDuck Facts From Beating Bruins

What say you now about special teams? -
I would suggest that the onside kick, together with the 3 - 4th down calls, two in our own end and the other a point in time where we needed at least 3 pts, make for a truly defining moment for our coach Lanning. He truly has the beginnings of being a great head coach!!
