Sounds like Mastro and Mirabel will be the cornerstones of his offense. I wonder if he will make Mastro his OC? It will be interesting to follow his journey down there, wish him the best of luck!

Same Old, Same Old? Or is This Going to be Different?
Haywarduck replied to 1Funduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
FunDuck, great writing, just not sure the outcome you call for wouldn't lead us to the same jail blazer scenario which soured you on the mighty Trailblazers. I will agree we need to be bold, aggressive and intelligent on this decision. I think the power brokers are going to make sure we do so this time. -
Kalani Sitake from Brigham Young interviewing for the job?
Haywarduck replied to Warrenton's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm poking fun at us as fans and Mario. He said it and we bought it. I don't blame him for saying stuff, I do blame him for not following through. I also want us to be honest about the weakness we have shown for not fully evaluating candidates. I hope I don't offend anyone, but I would rather go too humor, then direct attacks on character. I agree it is a fine line and hope I don't cross it. I just find it healthy to look for humor while thinking about the meaning. I know it was said asking Cristobal about his past statements about his desires for the offense was off limits at press conferences. I think it definitely isn't off limits now that we aren't holding our breath waiting for it to happen. I also agree humor can be both therapeutic and dangerous. I hope mine is therapeutic, and we can all ponder what we had, and what we need going forward. My apologies, in advance, to anyone I may offend. -
Everything, everyone should be considered and evaluated, by the data. This should be a data driven decision, no emotion, no sales job this time. We need a proven recruiter, winner and developer of men. When we whittle the list down, who is the best at it! Once the decision is made we congratulate the guy on the opportunity to become even better at his craft, welcome to the Oregon Football Program! What can we do to help you help us, let's go!

Miami's recruiting class is already at #11, Mario strength, one talent, isn't what they needed, oh well. He is a salesman and they bought what he was selling. Saban is a salesman too. He sells kids on things he delivers. He told Trevon Diggs he would be the best DB in football, Trevon was pissed, wanted to be a receiver. Saban delivered and all was good. Saban has done this over and over. Cristobal just says what players, families, fans and alumni want to hear, big difference. He didn't deliver, just a sales job.

Kalani Sitake from Brigham Young interviewing for the job?
Haywarduck replied to Warrenton's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
We were sold our last coach could recruit, coach and develop talent. This time we need somebody who can actually do all three. Talk is cheap, and I trust those looking at these guys to evaluate these three things, not just what is said. This guy has a winning record, stole our best recruit from last year, and can develop talent while putting kids in places to succeed. While I have tremendous respect for the mormon religion there are few places harder to recruit than Provo. I would be happy if those paying the bills find Sitake qualified. Last time we listened to the kids in the back seat when making the decision. Much like on a vacation gone bad when the kids yell stop here, and you are tired and vulnerable. We not only stopped where the kids screamed to stop we bought the timeshare, hook line and sinker. This time let's have the adults make the decision. We won't go through the timeshare sales pitch. We don't need another salesman selling us something that sounds amazing, but is really only lining his pocket. Let's have PK analyze the data, and see what is right for Oregon. The next Oregon coach is going to do well. Let's make sure we do too! -
Oregon Names Bryan McClendon Interim Head Coach
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Is he the downfield passing coordinator, the guy that has been in Mario's closet banging on the door yelling, 'LET ME OUT!' Welcome and let's see what you can do, Go Ducks! -
The question, would he bring the sledge hammer, fire up the men!
-
I just hope the contract buyout has a quick deliver date on the buyout and a massive penalty. That is the only communication I would give Miami! Mullens is unhappy, make them unhappy!

Get Brooks and Bellotti on the phone with all the recruits and let them know the whole Duck nation is behind them and the new coach, whoever it ends up being. Time for the real Oregon Football Program to stand up and carry the day. We have had two charlatans, really a couple snake oil salesman infect the program. It is nice to see the real Oregon stand up, well done Mike Bellotti!

RAT POISON - HOW ABOUT EARLY SIGNING DAY?
Haywarduck replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I like it, it is just the Florida snowbirds we have had living here that are adversely effecting the new date. When we stop hiring snowbirds all will be good. Seems like everyone but Oregon knows about the snowbird phenomenon, I suppose we know it well now. -
One of the reason's Utah was so strong was the adversity it went through. The deaths were tragic, but the team was bonded from the experience. Another big item was the qb issue. The team pick the back-up qb as their captain, the coaches picked the starter instead to try and lead the team. The coaches plan failed and the players choice ended up leading this team to become a very good team, they deserved to win. Oregon is in a tough situation. It bodes well for our future to see this young man step up and get behind the program which will be here for a very long time. Many things will change, but it is nice to see this student athlete have the fortitude to make the solid choice. Hopefully a strong group will rally around him. This will give the new coach something to build off. I look forward to seeing this happen as the new Oregon Football Program rises up!

Slick said I love it here, Mario said he would never want to leave, the next guy is going to say, who cares, what can you do for us! That is the bottomline of any negotiation. What are you going to do for us, and you evaluate what we are going to do for you, end of story. WE DON'T NEED ANY MORE STORIES!

The other real problem with the Cristobal hire is Miami already has the number 11 recruit class in the nation. It is the number 2 class behind Clemson in the ACC, but the Miami problem isn't the recruiting. Miami just hired a salesman to get better output out of their top notch recruits, again a gamble I don't put money on. The main problem is the salesman thinks he is the engineer, that never ends well. Fortunately he isn't in charge of accounting too.

Love Big Joe, not sure how head coach worthy the guy is. I also like giving him the title as one of the older, legacy type coaches. I hope Mullens knows which guy has that connection with the team, as it seemed Cristobal had lost the team. The team had to tell Mullens last time maybe he asks them this time too. He needs to act and lead on this one though. These student athletes are extremely valuable assets to the program. The next coach may just clean house, but the players should know they are a priority, in the short term and longterm.
-
History tends to repeat itself. Cristobal will recruit, but will he get the support he needs and will he accept it? He will need to get both and accept it to really be successful. I wish him luck, but guys like him only learn very hard lessons, and not the easy ones. I may be wrong and wish him well, say la vie!
-
Like I said before, we learned Mario is a very good salesman, and that is still true. There were players who followed slick to the FSU killing fields and there will be those who follow Mario, they believe him, no matter what. I do think some will start to question his sincerity, and should. The Oregon Football Program is rock solid, same program as before, they just lost their salesman. We will be hiring a new coach who will be doing more than sales.
-
Cristobal will be getting the money, but not the support he got at Oregon. The facilities and the many items most don't notice which go into making a program successful. A gamble is definitely when you take something away from what made it successful and expect that to continue. That is what Miami is doing. I wouldn't put my money on that one. My money is on the program which has won and keeps winning with each coach it hires.
-
If Cristobal stood up to the players and let them know his story good for him. He deserved to have a good bye. Mullens should have had a meeting right after that talk. He should have told them something which had reassured the players even more than the sales pitch Mario gave them. I am just not sure Mullens has that in him. I am concerned the players have been left adrift after the Mario talk. Most businesses take the keys and change the locks when this type of thing happens. I glad we gave Mario some respect, but we have to take care of the program. The student athletes need to know they will be taken care of even better, and soon!
-
I really hope this hire is one under the radar, which blows us away longterm. I don't want to see one of the win at all costs types, but we may end up having to digest something we don't like, we will see.

I think PK knows exactly what it takes to win and tried to help Mario get there. Mario may have been too ignorant to realize just how lucky he was with the shrewd support he received. I mean slick was given Leavitt to fix the defense, and he did it, the money was crazy at the time. Cristobal couldn't score, he was given Moorhead one of the better offensive minds in football, and he blew it. Moorhead didn't blow it, Cristobal blew the chance to use the one piece he really needed to win big. The next guy will get the same, and, my bet, do better with it. My bet we don't spend crazy money on anybody, but the support staff will be second to none. The facilities are second to none. PK knows what he is doing, needs to do to win. We won't be throwing crazy money just at a head coach, it will be wholistic approach. You come here and you will have everything, I mean everything you could ever want to make a winning team. That will be the selling point, not the 8-10 million, it will be a lot, but it won't be just about the money like most jobs, and promises of things way down the road which may never materialize. My bet, it works this time, Go Ducks!
-
I think the money only wants to be spent on a chance to win it all. I find it interesting Canzano seems to think it is local or splashy, Altman wasn't either. We need another Altman if the splashy doesn't get up out of their seat at the idea of coaching at Oregon. There are other options other than local or splashy, and I think that is where we will end up, hopefully sooner than later. I will be happy with whatever is the choice because I trust the choice will be like Altman, maybe a little underwhelming, but that is how Oregon rolls. We make great coaches, and the idea we won't look at some candidates is absurd. We need to look at everyone with an eye for who will fit best even if it isn't flashy. We have had enough flash! Cristobal was very lucky, and better hope that lucks lasts. Bottomline Cristobal is a great salesman, that is what we learned most about him, just one aspect of being a great coach.
-
My phone is blowing up means agents are calling to see if they can get some of the stupid money offered Cristobal. What I want to know is, is Mullens busy on the phone finalizing qualified candidates. I highly doubt Riley called sc, or Kelley called LSU, that is not how it works. You have to do the work Rob, I hope you are doing the work now! Who are you getting on the plane to Eugene, now!

Great question, every one of the coaches in the playoffs this year. It takes time to create what Mario was creating and will try to create. He was going to get the time at Oregon, not sure the alumni will be that patient in Miami, history isn't his friend, and just because he is their friend means nothing, right Manny?
