Oregon Ducks Football: 3 Keys to Beating Texas Tech
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Blow them away with our offense, and throttle them with our defense. This is the recipe to win on the road. I agree the sack count isn't the only important stat, but pressure and batted down passes get into the head of any qb. I don't want to see Shough comfortable, nor confident going into the second quarter. On offense a couple explosion plays by our weapons will take the air out of the TT players and crowd. By the end of the game I want the pundits to say, seems like Oregon is playing basketball and the other team is SEC football based on the scores being put up when the Ducks play, even on the road! What happens after another large score is all the teams on our schedule will be intimidated before the first kickoff, now that is chaos! -
Does Oregon Have Two Players Running for Heisman?
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
We are lucky to have Bucky! I can't wait to see what kind of a season he has, when called upon to make a real difference. I have a feeling we haven't seen the best of Bucky yet. Also as good as Bucky is, Locklyn seems to be the real deal as far as coaches go. He can pick the talent, inspire, coach up, and manage talent better than any other coach, and we have extremely good coaches! If any position coach can achieve what Locklyn has done at RB, that position will be in good hands. -
Does Oregon use the Coolmitt for its players? It would seem Oregon Football program would have all the tricks. If I was having to do something in that extreme heat I would be doing the Coolmitt and more! He has to keep believing and Stein has to keep feeding him things he can do. He definitely has the arm strength, and feet. I just hope the whole mental aspect can come together, as he was a china doll out there in the past. He has to believe, lead, and make it happen for the team to get behind him. Great first step in a new progression for the young man, proud of him! He deserved what happened against PSU!

QUAAAAACK! Brayden Platt Commits to Oregon!

Track stud too, welcome to the flock. -
Agree and I look forward to Stein's play calling and game management to go up against the formidable offensive minds and programs he will face as the season progresses. Those will be big tests, but he showed he has the chops to win against anyone. He has the weapons to win games, and I don't just mean the players on the field. What he showed last Saturday, on many levels, was truly impressive. The one stat which stood out to me Nix rushing yds. 0, Ty rushing 25 yds. He knows how to use the starting qb, and how to get the backup going.
-
Loved how you backed up your lofty read of the game with the statistics to put it all in perspective, well done! I would combine a couple of your observations and say Stein knows how to develop qb's. This may be the most important development we saw on Saturday. The transition of Ty is nothing short of miraculous. Any athlete who has had a case of the the yips who makes a turnaround is a feat you don't often see. Ty looked like a guy who can play and was set up for success, two things we haven't seen before. Novosad didn't look like he was playing high school ball last year at this time. The young man looked like he could come in and play real minutes at the D1 level. This, to me, was the biggest Duck Stein pulled out of his hat. Continuing Nix's success was nice to see, seeing two back-ups look like they are ready to play was priceless!

Georgia had 49 sacks for a loss of 400 yds the year after he left. Maybe Georgia redefined havoc after Lanning left? Sorry but that excuse sounds like how we tried to rationalize MariØ's offense. I want to see havoc! I do love our offense, I just want a matching crazy good defense!
-
Road trips can trip you up. This will be the next challenge. I do agree with Charles this team has the potential to be special. The one item is they had better been holding back the more complex defensive packages. If we can't pressure a qb this season it won't be special. Another curious stat is Soelle led our team in tackles. I guy with one start at ASU leads our team in tackles? The defense is definitely still a question mark. I'll be looking for more clarity here next week.

Chip Kelly is Happy Now, and I Like That
Haywarduck replied to CountryProf's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Good for him, hope he is happy 364 days a year! -
Their most productive player on defense shouldn't have been on the field, who would have thought that? I wonder if San Jose State needs any money for lawyer fees? I would be willing to start a gofundme site. Money to get spoiled children a little tough love! LSU vacated all 37 wins for playing an ineligible player, just saying 1 win seems about right.

I want the difference in turnover margin to be greater than the total PSU score. I also want the back-up qb's to have decent protection, and targets to throw too. I want to come away saying we might have somebody who can come in and finish a game this season. Maybe just maybe our backup could win a game. I also would like to see Dowdell run for his first TD, with a stiff arm that makes me wonder if that was Derrick Henry. Not much really.

Famous Fearless FishDuck Forecast for 2023 Ducks
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Oh I have lost jobs, money, relationships because of stating facts. I know how difficult it is to state what you know or believe, and the equation one should do when making that choice. I also don't give a rip when I upset somebody with my opinion, or when I state a fact I believe is important for people to consider. I have actually learned to enjoy it as it means I have had an impact. My latest bombshell should be coming out soon, and I am ready for the blowback, it is that important. I can agree neither of us has experienced exactly what the other has. I am just stating we will know more about the many variables which will effect this team after game 2. I can also respect the fearlessness you are showing, although I may not understand it firsthand. One fix is to make the opposite prediction and have that to fall back on. Isn't that what many pundits do? I suppose that would be a fearless prognosticator with no integrity. -
Famous Fearless FishDuck Forecast for 2023 Ducks
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I have no problem making the fearless prediction you propose so eloquently. To be truly 'fearless' one would have to put money on it, right? Picking the Ducks to go 12-0 and being right would be extremely lucrative if money was fearlessly put on the prediction. My bet is the odds would still be pretty lucrative after a road win, but the knowledge about the team a bit more complete. There is being fearless, and then there is being thorough. If I am going to be fearless, I need a bit more info is all I am saying. 2023 College Football Win Totals Odds WWW.VEGASINSIDER.COM 2023 College Football Win Total betting odds for regular season over/under win totals provided by VegasInsider. -
Famous Fearless FishDuck Forecast for 2023 Ducks
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I like the enthusiasm, but this prediction will be more accurate after our first road game. There is just too many parts which haven't worked together, but as a Duck homer, I with you, 12-0! -
Oregon Ducks Football: The Season for ALL the Marbles
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
What specifically means who specifically to me. I say it will come down to leadership questions. First off is Dan Lanning the real deal on the sideline. He made some mistakes last season, and can he turn those into golden decisions this season. Will Dan Lanning prove himself as the guy we all think he is. That is the first question we need an answer for. I think so, but he will still be the aggressive guy and with that the ball will bounce like the oblong shape it is. Next can the assistants really elevate the performance of so many talented athletes. One of the big differences between the great, and the elite is talent development, and use of skills. Can the coaches inspire and require the extra effort needed to win at the top level. This will be the second question I will look for an answer on. Lastly who on the field will be the difference makers? I am not talking about making the expected plays, but who is going to fire up the team to get the opposing team off the field on critical 3rd and 4th downs, or make the 1st downs. Are we going to have a guy or guys on the field who will accept nothing less, and players willing to be inspired? I think it comes down to leadership and better finding out just what kind of leadership this program has for the long haul, and short term. For me it will come down to what is this defense made of. We should see that in week 2, but it will need to grow as the season goes along. -
Getting sc players to play well at non marque positions, the magic few coaches can achieve. Players don't go to sc to play as a team, they go there to be the team. The reason the offense plays so well, the limelight shines on the offense. The reason the defense doesn't, not enough sunshine to go around. I see no evidence Riley is that coach. He gets them to play just well enough to win the ones he should, and a good disciplined team beats them every time.

Do You Like Oregon Being the Underdog?
Haywarduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
You can call the Ducks a long shot, maybe a dark horse, but never call them an underdog, never! I do like being underestimated, and being a long shot, love it, always have. -
Three BOLD Predictions for Oregon Football in 2023
Haywarduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
My boldest prediction isn't that the most exciting player on the field will be in the Heisman hunt. It is if Bucky improves this season he will be the most exciting player on the field for any team playing. This will vault him into the trophy talk as Bucky is going to get lucky with the ball all season. The other bold prediction is either our most expensive assistant will get fired, or he has a breakout season with his side of the ball. A top 30 group of guys creating the havoc we were told to expect, or the season is a disappointment and we bring in another coach. I look for Havoc from this guy! Also why isn't he lining up at TE a few times this season? -
Stanford's mascot use to be an Indian, and we all know what happened to that. As far as their mascot, it's the Stanford Cardinal which is a color, and the tree, well it's Stanford. Just one picture on maybe why the mascot wasn't the best idea.

I don't wear the opposing teams colors, and would probably get off Hwy 99 if I had to go through Corvallis on my way to Eugene. I certainly wouldn't buy gas, or food in Corvallis, not a fan of potato salad anyway. As far as the refs, booing is ok on those fools. That is the one thing which will definitely be better in the BIG, IMHO, their refs. I don't enjoy sitting next to beaver, dawg or opposing fans, but I don't boo players, unless it an unsportsmanlike penalty. I tend to go a little crazy on those calls, or lack of call. I have been known to yell Noonan at opportune times out of love for the greatest golf movie of all time, not too loud though.
