Uniform Reveal for Arizona State Game
Dr Hilarius replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
We beat UCLA at the Rose Bowl a couple years ago wearing the eggshells. The only unis I dislike more than the eggshells are the hot pink unis. I support the cause, but the hot pink is distracting. Oh, but the absolute worst unis were the orange socks. If you’re going to dress like a cartoon character, you better win, and we got smoked that game. -
Execution vs Production—Lanning’s Secret
Dr Hilarius replied to Dr Hilarius's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
More evidence from On3.com: “Another dominant performance by the DL, led by Dorlus and company. Dorlus was again unblockable against SC, causing havoc in the interior all game long. You’ve seen multiple NFL scouts note the dominance of the entire line, specifically the depth and waves in which the rush is coming.” -
From DL’s presser today: Q: How much buy-in did you have to get from your defensive line to rotate this often and have players not gain maybe as much attention? Lanning: "I disagree. You're talking about them right now, right? People are talking about what these guys are doing. It's not really about production. It's never really about production. You got to look at the first round of the draft, you're gonna see seven edge guys drafted, and tell me, how many of those guys actually have double-digit sacks? I think there was one last year in Will Anderson. It's not about production, it's about execution. It's about the film you put on tape. Our guys realize that. What a brilliant pitch! Be a Duck and learn your craft, prepare for the NFL, and win without destroying your body. Of course this only works if you’re actually witnessing skill and development on the field, which we’re seeing in spades. And DL and crew can point to how few injuries we’ve suffered this year as a major differentiator. As a former athlete, this is exactly how I wanted to work—compete against the best in practice and win against the best in games. The “backups” when they’re fresh should be better than the “starters” when they’re tired. Everyone gets to execute at the highest level, and no one cares about individual stats.

Interesting Analysis of USC vs Oregon from Hythloday1...
Dr Hilarius replied to woundedknees's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
“On the first play of the fourth quarter, Oregon scored a touchdown to expand its lead to 22 points, which is beyond the cutoff most advanced statistical systems use for defining a game as no longer competitive with that little time remaining. Since I watch film I can use more custom-tailored criteria for garbage time and otherwise non-representative play, but in this case that’s the point I used as well.” -
I have never been a Graves fan, even during the Ionescu years. Graves is a problem, and it was Campbell who was the glue during Graves’ championship tenure. Campbell is married to the daughter of one of Oregon’s greatest girls’ HS bball coaches EVER, Oregon City’s Brad Smith. I played with her and for her dad on state select teams, and they were amazing!! Can we pleeeeeeease bring Campbell back to replace Graves? OBD would be in the Final four in 2 yrs.

My absolute favorite gripe from the Canes is about Trey Benson. ”Mario could have got Trey Benson but he didn't.” I was super disappointed when Trey left OBD but wished him well. I didn’t think about him again, but now he’s crushing it for FSU. As someone who has made a career out of knowing when to move on before the lay-offs, I admire Trey for getting a new gig before Mari-no-O imploded. And Trey getting to beat his forme captor must feel good.

Ducks Top Trojans On Sloppy Saturday
Dr Hilarius replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
U$C is a classic example of a team playing down to its competition. They squeak by the bad teams, but they have talent that can be “turned on” when its inspired but doesn’t show up consistently. So the fact that the reigning Heisman winner was able to score 2 TDs against our backups when the game was out of reach doesn’t bother me. -

The ‘23 FSU team has the same rhythm as the ‘14 FSU team. They will both get destroyed in the CFP semis. -

Wow! OSU taking it to Stanford! I’ve been saying all season that the Beavs are the team I am most afraid of. -

As much as I was cheering for UU, the game ended perfectly for the Ducks. Our UU win looks even better. UW looks vulnerable but still got its win. If OBD play up to their standard tonight, we should be sitting pretty tomorrow. -

Wondering Where Kris Hutson Has Been?
Dr Hilarius replied to David Marsh's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I can imagine that when my stud QB advocates for and ultimately lands his brother at my position, I might look elsewhere. -
The false starts suck but seem situational—crowd noise, defense shenanigans, etc.. The after-the-whistle calls are unacceptable. Emotional control is one of the most, if not _the_ most, important skill for success in sports. (I know bc I was not good at it.) Judging from interviews, DL and crew seem to understand this.

Pac12 refs much??

This makes me even more excited to play them. The new co-DCs clearly haven’t improved things—they might even be the reason players aren’t doing film study anymore. Also, based on the latest interviews of U$C players, I can now see why Riley didn’t want them to be available for press after Utah. They sound like whiney babies.

This just triggered my PTSD from trying to park in Eugene. I got many, many boots…

I’ve never seen this before… DL opens his Wed press conference singing the praises of his scout team. “Really proud of the guys that are giving us a look this week look is extremely important playing obviously a really talented team. Brock Thomas, is doing a good job over there. Extending plays and making it challenging for us. On the defensive side of the ball several guys on defense doing the same thing for our offensive unit but tough challenge ” Some coaches talk about teams. DL clearly walks the walk. Teams are only as strong as their weakest link. Go Ducks!
