Texas A&M is in a bit of a conundrum. They have a reputation as a big spender with little to no patience. A big name coach is going to want big money and he’s going to want it guaranteed. The reason being is if the Aggies pull the plug on him due to their lack of patience then he is going to want to be compensated. However, A&M might not want to make the same mistake they made with Jimbo. So, it might be hard for them to pry a guy away from a job who already has a good contract and job security.

I remember that kick well. However, I gave him the benefit of the doubt because the playing surface looked like a half eaten taco salad.

This is an interesting take that should make everyone feel a little better.

I personally like Kiffin to A&M. He and Sark worked under two of the best head coaches in recent history. They’re great recruiters and offensive minded. The Aggies haven’t had a decent offense in 10 years.

Disagree. Every team you mentioned has to come into their backyard to recruit effectively. If Lanning was in College Station he and Sark would lock Texas down. The only thing holding the Aggie football program back is their management.

In all fairness to A&M, it’s a top 5 job in college football. Unlimited money, top notch facilities, fertile recruiting area, top conference, and most importantly….they’re starved for success. They’ll do anything to win. The drawbacks to coaching there are obvious. They want immediate success, so their coach will always be standing on a trap door. Also, they’re currently getting burned by a fully guaranteed contract, so their new coach likely will have a 3 year window to win the SEC and National Championship. Oh, and if he doesn’t, he only gets a percentage of his contract after getting fired.

Oregon might do well to make DL a $10M/year head coach. He’s proved that he’s worthy and it’s the kind of thing great programs do to maintain stability.

Here’s a novel idea. Hire a great coordinator at a modest salary and then give him time to develop and earn a bigger contract. A&M likes to throw money at the hot name and then hope they can fix their problems. They want somebody else to do the work and then buy them.

It would be nice if Mario could works some magic and knock off FSU and/or Louisville. He’s always good for an inexplicable upset or two.

He’s not wrong at this time. Alabama has come back and beat some good teams. Oregon has one win against a team with a winning record (Utah). Everything will get sorted out by conference championship weekend. There’s still a lot of football left and Duck fans know that a late season trip to the desert with championship (and Heisman) hopes rarely ends well.

It’s as simple as this. Oregon needs to win out and they need Georgia to win out. That would effectively eliminate Texas because their best win would be against a two loss Alabama team.

Some of us tried to warn them, but they wouldn’t listen. Apparently, they need to go back and check their social media posts about how great Mario was going to be for The U. I distinctly remember reading about how he couldn’t win big at Oregon because our program was trash and had no tradition. Miami was going to give him the tools to win national championships like the old days. I see a lot of transfers coming out of Miami in the future. Tyler Van Dyke is going to leave and look like an All-American on his next team. I also don’t see his coordinators hanging on too much longer. Era defining game. Miami is looking like a team coached by Mario Cristobal. Flashes of greatness followed by complete ineptitude. I think he gets one more season to win the ACC before they cut him loose.

USC’s defense plays good in spurts, but gives up a ton of big plays. They’re making a Mike Leach reject look like Emmitt Smith. Their offense will be a handful next week. I hope we don’t get a repeat of 2011.

I love Bo Nix’s play and all, but Jalen Daniels is ridiculously talented. He definitely deserves an invite to the Heisman ceremony. Unfortunately, he has the same problem Caleb Williams has. No defense.

Ducks 45-31 1 TO 3 Sacks 283 yards passing.

The Michigan highlights from 2007 make me yearn for the “mallard head” green helmets and the Belotti Bold number font. Those should be the next throwback uniforms. Diamond plated shoulders and all.

Oregon 24-16 1 TO 2 Sacks 243 yards passing. This is a game where we’re going to see how good the defense is. Utah doesn’t give up many points at home.

NIL has afforded many college athletes a reason to stick around and get their degree and play out their eligibility. If JPJ can make more money his Senior year than he could in the NFL then he should stick around. He’s popular locally, but not a national brand like Shedeur or Caleb. Most O-Linemen will never be nationally known unless their brother starts dating the world’s biggest pop star. It depends on which round he is drafted in and what his guaranteed money is. He also has to look at the possibility of getting drafted higher the following season.

I’m just seeing if anybody else has teams in other conferences that they pull for when the Ducks aren’t playing. I have one or two in each conference except the B1G. For some reason none of their teams ever really appealed to me. This works out nicely for obvious reasons. My favorite team(s) from each conference are listed below. BIG 12: Texas Tech My best friend went there and I’ve been to a few games with him. Great atmosphere. However, Utah will be on my list next year. SEC: South Carolina It’s within driving distance of my home, so we go down there for a game each season. The atmosphere is unreal. They fill that stadium no matter their record and they get bonus points for the “rooster crow” and Sandstorm. I went to college in the state of Arkansas, so I’m a sympathetic Hogs fan. Many of my friends were fans that I found myself pulling for them. ACC: Miami They were the coolest thing going when I was a teenager in the 80’s. I was and still am a huge Jimmy Johnson fan. I know I’m supposed to hate Mario, but he never lost to the Fuskies and he got the ship righted after Helfrich/Taggart. Also, a Rose Bowl trophy and two PAC championships helps. Bonus: Appalachian State Beautiful campus and great place to go watch a game. Especially when the leaves are turning. I’m also pretty sure this is where my daughter and money will be going.
