  1. I was listening to Rick Neuweasel the other morning on ESPN radio. He admitted something that we all know, but is seldom talked about overtly. He said “The run-off game is strong among coaches”. He then went on to say how coaches have conversations with some of their players about how their services will not be needed in the future, but they will help them find a spot at a different school. This is how they make room for bigger signing classes. What I thought was most interesting is since the onset of the transfer portal, these players no longer get help from their former coach with finding another team, so it has become more difficult for a lot of the kids. Those are the ones who find themselves in the FCS or D2. This may not have anything to do with MP, but if he’s not getting the ball much and there is new talent coming in then the writing is on the wall.
  2. I have a sneaking suspicion that these kind of numbers will be the norm when the playoff is expanded. If Oregon wants to quit being a “stepping stone” program they’ll have to eventually cough up this kind of money.
  3. This tells me he’s already gone. He’ll probably be enrolled at USC by next week.
  4. Miami might be a better location if you enjoy that climate, but there is no way it’s a better coaching gig than Oregon.
  5. Don’t forget Brian Harsin in all this. Washington might wait and see how well he is received at Auburn after this season. If he drops his next 2 games he will be on notice. Saturday’s game was a disaster and Auburn’s boosters have the 2nd worst reputation for meddling in the country. Only Texas is worse. I can say with a great deal of certainty that if he doesn’t beat Bama this year or next he will be gone.
  6. Miami fired their AD, so it looks like Diaz will probably be next. If I’m Cristobal or any other coach who is in demand, I might stay right where I am if it’s a good situation. Programs are showing less patience with their coaching staffs these days. It likely has to do with the ability to utilize the transfer portal for quick success. It used to be a guy got 3-4 years to turn it around. Now, it’s more like 1-2 years.
  7. Agreed. Corvallis is a place where a good coach can carve out quite a good life. If he got them to a Rose Bowl he would become a bigger legend than Pat Casey……believe it, or not.
  8. I t was far better to exercise patience and wait for this. Oh, how sweet it was.
  9. Ducks could win the next 30 games, but this will always be the reason why each win will be sweeter than the last.
  10. Michigan State is playing OSU at the Horseshoe that weekend. Columbus could be a contender.
  11. I don’t think AB is the reason why this team won’t win a national championship. They stand a good chance of not winning a Pac 12 championship as well. Here’s why (and I’m not going to say anything that everyone doesn’t already know). They cannot play a complete game. From Fresno all the way down to last Saturday, they have not played one great football game. In fact, in every game except the Ohio State game they have been downright infuriating. They made Cal, Arizona and Colorado look like all-stars at points during those games and would’ve gone to OT vs. Cal if their OC had been smart enough to call a run play inside the 5. Of course, Stanford was an embarrassment. However, the worst performances were UCLA and last weekend in Seattle. Why do I say this? Because they had both games wrapped up and tried their best to give them back. Luckily, UCLA and Washington weren’t accepting returns. The 2 interceptions that AB threw against UCLA were bad, but the 2 personal fouls penalties against Washington were horrific. To go from the 1 yard line to the 37 in two plays is what I would expect from an undisciplined doormat team. Not a top 4 team. A decent team would’ve taken that 2nd chance and tied the game. Luckily, Jimmy Lake was on the opposite sideline, but there are no more Jimmy Lake’s on the schedule.
  12. The game notes on ESPN.com said he was called for unsportsmanlike conduct. There was probably some trash talk after the play. And not the clean kind like Philip Rivers used to spew.
  13. Arroyo put Herbert under center against Utah in the Pac 12 championship game in 2019. He used it for short yardage situations and goal line. I have never seen it since that game, though.
  14. No. Oregon needs to develop the QB’s they have. Nothing says you’re a bad coach like constantly chasing transfer QB’s. Also, He seems like the kind of guys who could screw up the culture of the team.
  15. You are so correct. Even if you traveled the state of Washington from Spokane to Forks you can go through temperate forests, snow, desert and rain forest in about 5 hours of driving.
  16. I know who didn’t get upset. Georgia. It’s them and everybody else. Just like Bama last year, LSU before them and Clemson before them. There’s no parity in CFB anymore and it’s kind of sad.
  17. Byron Marshall had done it a couple of times before that. He also did it again against Ohio State in the NC game, but the tip of the ball barely crossed the line so they gave it to him. Marshall was good but his showboating left a lot to be desired.
  18. Utah is improving, but this game had more to do with Stanford giving up all hope.
  19. I was at a friends house in NC. This was in 2018. He’s a Heels fan so we were going to watch Oregon/uw at his place and UNC/VT afterward. I told him what a big rivalry it was but he obviously didn’t really understand. That is, until CJ ran into the end zone for the game winner and I jumped off the couch and started going crazy. The icing on the cake was when they showed Jake Browning in his “surrender cobra” pose on the bench and I threw double birds at the TV and yelled “F.U. Browning…F.U.!!!” among other bits of colorful language which described his cockiness and penchant for pointing his finger. Anyway, my buddy looks at me and says “You sound like me when we beat Duke in basketball”. It was then that he realized the seriousness of the rivalry. On a side note. We both share a dislike for the Beavs. Him for baseball CWS reasons and me for obvious reasons.
  20. I feel it also took the big man out of the game. I don’t see great post play anymore.
  21. This is where I will give Jimmy Lake credit. He said if the Ducks beat USC then they were the rightful Pac 12 champions.
  22. All of those numbers are currently hanging in the rafters to include 77 for Dr. Jack.
