  1. Mario fully botched the QB situation by keeping games way to close and never letting backups see the field in clean up time. AB should have been pulled from the bowl game after the first couple three and outs. Since he stayed in till the end, their is no clear indicator of either remaining QBs on field capabilities. it’s an unfortunate situation for all involved. The players, team, coaches and fans have no choice but to just see how it all plays out.
  2. I said it earlier and I’ll say it again. We may be greatly underestimating the scale of the Lanning tsunami arriving on our shore. The dude seems to be the full spectrum real deal. Recruiting, staff building, team chemistry, game planning, motivational speaker and one freaking football coach all rolled into one! He wants the spring game packed and with super stoked players making plays all over the field, he’ll be impressing a bunch of 4 1/2-5 star recruits in the process. The guy seems to not just win but dominate every aspect of coaching there is. Go Ducks!
  3. Great post Jon. Far better than most articles on other sites. I think the biggest problem the PAC has isn’t inside the box thinking. It’s more like inside the yacht thinking. if the view from the top is of an elite club instead of a conference competing for national relevance, then we are truly in a hopeless situation. Too bad the decision makers don’t share your thoughts on expansion. I’d love to see your ideas come to life.
  4. Both coaches addressed and accessed the glaring problems both teams had quite clearly. They both sounded pretty frustrated with a sense of entitlement from the players. Altman sounded like he was ready to sweep half the team out the door and start over! Good luck to both teams getting back on track next year. Sorry to hear the news about Junior. Sounds like his life took a turn for the worse and died before being able to turn things around.
  5. I'd love for Nyara to come back but with all her injuries in her career, it may be wise to take the money and run.
  6. Luckily our MMB cornflakes we’re already whizzed on a few games back!
  7. A sad day for the University of Prowess.
  8. I like the contrast between the stories about Lanning's team building through connecting and bonding and the USC coach's $17,000,000 bling palace. It tells me the kind of players each program will go after and where each program will wind up in a few years. The me vs we couldn't be made more clearer.
  9. It's time to think about the world we're going to leave behind for Keith Richards....... and Tom Brady.
  10. Wow. Lanning really takes his 1% better each day philosophy seriously. That concept was behind nearly every quote in the article. It also made me think that he wasn't just the be st D coordinator in the country last year but that he was also one of the best at what he was in charge of last year. This year, he's in charge of the entire team! Man I can't wait till September!
  11. For every Cam Newton that’s all about the $$$, there will be a Casey Mathews waiting to knock him into oblivion.
  12. Yes. Now the mask wearers will get to be the rebels!
  13. It sounds like he’s continuing the same philosophy he had at UGA. In interviews I saw of him there, he mentioned getting 1% better each day so that you’re at championship level by the end of the season. Judging by his results, I’d say he knows how to get it done.
  14. What if all teams dropped one scheduled game off the schedule and then teams that don’t make the playoffs add a bonus game at the end? This keeps everyone playing the same amount of games while adding a playoff round for 12 teams.
  15. I can see some sort of pitch on the theme of help build the track to a championship here or ride someone else’s train there.
  16. Man I'll take Lanning's honest enthusiastic answers over Mario's leather helmet coach speak any day. Great stuff!
  17. Saw this on Twitter but haven’t read it yet.
  18. I think we should take a look at the big picture view of the overall under achievement of the Mario era instead of just the underachievement of individual players. These guys were sold on bringing back the big time splash of Duck football but were given a conservative play not to lose game plan on both sides of the ball. They all saw a potential Heisman winner Herbert reduced to a game manager. They saw many 4 1/2-5 star players sit on the sidelines in favor of vanilla upper class men. KT called out Mario as a fraud and Pitman had a similar take in his parting rant. Both the former DC and OC couldn’t get out of here fast enough. There’s probably much more dissatisfaction we’ll never know about. With all that as a backdrop, along with the disturbing amount of season ending injuries last year, it’s not surprising that players may have dialed back their out put. Hopefully Lanning is the real deal and the team enjoys running through the wall for him next year. Don’t be surprised if KT ends up looking like everything we hoped he’d be here in the NFL.
  19. This team was built to be led by Dante and Richardson and it wasn’t. It just is what it is. Or in this case, it just isn’t what it isn’t.
  20. I see no signs of life but with Dr. Altman still performing surgery, we may be writing the Ducks obituary a little too soon.
  21. Whatever you think about the ref’s call, you don’t put your fate in their hands. The alpha dog on the team with four fouls late in the game just needs to contest the shot, live with the results and live to compete for the victory. Easy to say from the armchair I know but that’s what it takes to win the tough ones. Good luck in the tournament ladies.
  22. Whatever I feel about Mario as a coach is small potatoes to the important things in life. Losing mom is a dagger to the soul. My condolences coach.
  23. If Mr. Thibs thought Mario was a fraud (which most here agree), then maybe dialing it back to avoid injury was the smart move. I don’t thing he signed up to be nearly last in the country in third down stops. Pretty sure the other NFL caliber players didn’t either.
