  1. If we win out, we sure won’t be sharing a Natty with Miami like they did. That will for sure muzzle the mutts.
  2. I will always maintain that Saban quit because everyone can now do what he’d been doing for years.
  3. May well be the post of the year.
  4. Living in Texas, I’ve watched a fair amount of Tech. They are impressive, and the only loss was when their QB1 was out against ASU. Their linebacker group may be the best in CFB. My observation is that they are built similarly to OBD; I feel like it will be us playing against another version of us. Duck fandom aside, I think this is the most interesting of the next round of games. It has the potential to be a classic. Can’t wait.
  5. Maybe people are confusing Whittingham with Dillingham?
  6. I can’t be too specific, but in my career I met (and dealt with) many kids and families in high-level athletics. There were all kinds, as you can imagine. But there were also the hangers-on lurking around. Big talk, big promises. The legitimate scouts and coaches were almost always good to deal with. The others were trouble, and too often I witnessed the dissension they brought with them. I’m sure NIL would now complicate it now even more. All of that to say, stories like this are just the tip of the iceberg.
  7. I noticed a definite Beaver vibe with those helmets. Their “M” helmets look like an upside down fusky “W” so what are you going to do.
  8. I have two “what if’s” that may have changed the trajectory of the Pac-12. One is that OSU wins the Natty in 2001. The other is that Dennis Dixon doesn’t get hurt and we win the Natty a few years later. I believe that if either or both happen, the conference grows in strength in the early 2000’s and stays together.
  9. That 2001 team that throttled Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl was really good. They came on strong as the season progressed. If the 12 team playoff existed then, they may well have run the table.
  10. Fisch has done everything except park a uhaul outside his office at UW. Where he lands I have no idea. Even though UCLA seems like a step down, he (and his family) may not see it that way. That would open the door for Smith. That said, I’m still leaning toward Smith going to UCLA.
  11. I remember when Bill Musgrave led us to six wins and we went to the Weedeater Bowl in Shreveport. We hadn’t been to a bowl game in decades. It felt like a big deal to us. There may have been some field-storming on our part. I hope we never get so used to being good that we forget what being bottom tier felt like.
  12. Chip was staring down the barrel of a Show Cause. He needed to be away from college football for a while.
  13. Saban stepped away when everyone could do legally what he had been doing under the table for years.
  14. I doubt a move to either Vegas or Seattle. The owners crave the expansion dollars that those cities are bringing to the table. Look at it this way: if the Blazers were to relocate to either city, would Portland be an expansion target? I seriously doubt it. Sadly, if Portland doesn’t step up in terms of facilities, a move to Raleigh or perhaps Nashville is much more likely.
  15. I’m not sure about Cal, but I can see Stanford going down an Ivy League road in terms of football. Stanford has a relatively small enrollment and alumni base. Their stadium renovation was very good, and I find it to be an excellent venue to watch a game. However, it’s rare that they get a strong crowd. The renovation at Cal’s Memorial Stadium was also excellent, and it too is a great place to watch football. Large crowds are also rare at Cal. I’ve lost count of how many Duck games I watched in those stadiums through the years. Great memories. However, the Bay Area is NFL oriented, with a limited enthusiasm for college football. I’m not sure that either program remains relevant in the current milieu of college football.
  16. Apart from the USC aspect, it is a shame that the game time will change. The sunset part was always great, both in person and on TV.
  17. Before I opened this thread I hoped that he was picking anOhio State, on account of him being a hack and all. Now I’m worried. Not really.
  18. There is certainly a Belichick flavor to this, and I mean that in the best possible sense.
  19. Y’all didn’t believe me. anOhio State fans are the most obnoxious fan base in CFB. Way worse than the Huskies and Trojans. Those fans are annoyingly smug; anOhio State are just plain nasty. Just remember, anOhio State never loses. They either win or the other team cheated. I guess Chip added the category of “they really didn’t beat us.”
  20. All I know is that if this had all taken place 30 years ago, USC, UCLA, UW and probably Stanford would have gone to the Big 10, and we would have been relegated to the fringes along with the Beavers. It wouldn’t have felt good. I understand that have much more empathy for OSU than most others on this site. I just don’t think we should lose that perspective.
  21. Pliny the Elder, from Santa Rosa, remains the gold standard of IPA. Santa Rosa Duck, find a way to hook up Charles with some Pliny.
