  1. My observation from a lot of years of following college football is that a team can score up to about 70 points against a weak sister opponent. Anything more than that and the public and media will howl in protest. It’s an optics thing, I suppose.
  2. Michael Pittman Jr was at SC. Micah is the younger brother.
  3. Sports Hate should always be embraced. I’ve Sports Hated the Fuskies my entire life and I’m richer for the experience.
  4. I had always heard that there was a friendship between Walt Disney and one of our AD’s back in the day, and we were given rights to a modified Donald character. This would have been some 70 years ago.
  5. I could absolutely see what’s left of the PAC and the MW merging at this point. Win-win.
  6. Besides joining a more stable and lucrative conference I see some additional benefits: With three west coast partners, (USC, UCLA, UW) the travel issues are easier than what the LA schools were initially anticipating. No more Thursday or Friday games, unless out of conference. No more “PAC 12 After Dark.” Instead, early evening starts and day games. If promises are kept and we continue to play OSU, I’m not sure there is much downside.
  7. USC’s defense was horrible last year. If the D is even average they will be a handful for anyone. It will be all about that side of the ball.
  8. I have a friend who worked at a large paper for over 20 years. Same ownership family for over 100 years. He remembers well the day at a staff meeting when they first heard about what later became Craigslist. They were told it could potentially cut their ad revenue by up to 90%. He and his colleagues were skeptical. Within five years it was severance package time. We lost a lot when we lost our papers. They are a shell of themselves if they exist at all.
  9. “A starving man won’t notice a dirty plate.” - Renault
  10. There is such a fine line with all of this. I remember hearing the “alternate” lyrics of the OSU fight song, sung loudly from the student section at Autzen. To a 13-14 year old kid, that was absolutely gold. And, I’m none the worse for wear because of it. I’m tracking this thread. The variety of opinions is interesting.
  11. Those of us who are old enough to remember the Veer Offense in the Don Read days shudder just a bit at the thought.
  12. Dennis Dodd has been a hack of the first order for as long as I can remember. His articles lack any real depth or insight, On the rare occasion when he is right, it’s because he stumbled onto something obvious to anyone. Other than that, he’s right on the money.
  13. Maybe HGTV or the Food Network might be options. Seriously, this seems like the death rattles for the PAC.
  14. You’re spot on regarding UTSA. As a San Antonio resident, I can tell you that the Alamodome would be packed if UTSA were a Power 5 program. I believe there’s more potential here than either Rice or SMU.
  15. After the next couple of recruiting cycles, all of their athletes will have signed knowing that they are going to the Big 10. I’m not certain there will be much regret.
  16. anOSU doesn’t like much out of conference competition. They love a diet of cupcakes.
  17. Hendon Hooker for Tennessee should have been a finalist. I’ve kind of given up on the Heisman, for the most part.
  18. Never. Never, never, never, never root for the Fuskies. Too many memories of a sea of purple on Franklin Blvd., celebrating their superiority. NEVER.
  19. Fresno State would bring a Texas Tech kind of vibe to the conference. I say this in the best sense. Great fan base, blue collar, always tough. I’d love to see it happen.
  20. Calling my shot on Saban’s successor - Lane Kiffin.
  21. During his most successful years at Norte Dame, Lou Holtz weighed in on recruiting. He talked about making sure you had a balance of 3, 4, and 5 star players. Have a good mix in the room of all-stars and worker bees. At that time he could get lots of great players, as many as anyone. But he had a formula. That always made sense to me and it seems even more important now than before. FWIW.
