  1. They know how wearing these trips are and how they put their teams at a disadvantage. Good luck to USC and UCLA.
  2. That’s not going to happen. The money is not there. Oregon would have to come in as a “junior partner” at a reduced rate probably no more than it can get in the PAC. In addition Oregon would be competing with blue bloods for a spot in the playoffs. Much better off (for now) staying in the PAC. CBS dropping out could be a sign that negotiations are done and a deal is close. All these reports are speculation likely fanned by conferences hoping to damage the PAC and “news” sources eagerly looking for clicks. At this point I’m going to wait for facts.
  3. …and never between the tackles (unless sneak) and slide whenever possible. Rising got hurt going head first.
  4. Sometimes (most of the time) QBs need to get down when finishing a run. Rising plowed into the tackler and paid a high price. Hope he is 100% by next year.
  5. I think we are seeing GK’s learning curve. This is twice he been a bit passive. (1) trusting a handshake agreement with sharks and not working for something stronger —and I include the backstabbing USC administration among the sharks— and (2) thinking slow playing this was to our advantage. I don’t think moving to another conference is even possible right now or even to our benefit. Any move at this point would be seen as desperation and priced accordingly.
  6. From The Athletic: "Three people with knowledge of the discussions said commissioner George Kliavkoff is struggling to find partners willing to pay close to what the league is seeking. Two of those sources said Kliavkoff overpromised his members on how many bidders there would be and what dollar amount they could command — a target north of $40 million per school, according to one league athletic director. Today, it’s uncertain whether the Pac-12 will even be able to exceed the $31.6 million average the Big 12 reportedly landed in a six-year extension with ESPN and Fox it reached last fall. “(We) don’t have a deal because it hasn’t been good,” said the AD." What we're hearing on Pac-12 expansion, SMU, the Big 12 and more THEATHLETIC.COM The latest on why the Pac-12 might need to add schools such as San Diego State and SMU and what the Big 12 needs to do to move forward.
  7. Insightful analysis, Charles. It shows the naivety of the young men who willingly place themselves into this position (competing with 12 others for one spot) as well as the ruthlessness both the coaches and players will need to survive. I hope that we don’t hear any moaning and groaning about "the lack of loyalty" we will see by players and coaches. It’s all a transaction that the wise players will see with clear eyes and minimal emotion (including loyalty, which doesn’t exist in either direction). Once a duck, always a Duck, LOL, that is dead. It’s a transaction, not a connection.
  8. My understanding of this situation is that the athletes were never consulted and their approval is not close to a majority. This was a decision made by the powerful to maximize their short term interests. If it harms the little people, well you can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs. If you are one of the hoi polli and don’t like it, your only choice is to leave. That has costs but the powerful aren’t paying those costs so they are indifferent. My guess is many of the best athletes (who have the most options to leave) will end up leaving. Especially in the Olympic sports which neither UCLA or USC administrators are all that enthused about, anyway. They’d love to see Olympic sports disappear leaving more money for revenue making sports. $$$ Implying this was a choice by the athletes that they will come to regret is partially correct in that the athletes will come to regret this.
  9. Not true. There are the Amazon Fire-sticks and AppleTV — to name the two biggest sellers— that can be added to any TV with a HDMI input (which are all TVs made since around 2005). I used an Amazon Fire Stick for years with a dumb TV in order to stream.
  10. Canzano just answered this (below) in his weekly QA. Teams in the PAC will make more money staying. Q: Would Oregon, Washington, ASU, plus Stanford make more in the new Big 12? Currently the Big 12 will make $31.7M per school. How much would the number go up to if they left the Pac-12? — @davidlfloyd4 A: Nobody is leaving the Pac-12 for the Big 12. Anyone speculating like that isn’t sourced. Conference insiders tell me they expect the average annual per-school distribution in the Pac-12 to beat the Big 12’s media-rights number. I wrote a piece on the media-rights value of Pac-12 members in the summer and revisited this week in print. Canzano: Mailbag deals with Vision Quest, Pac-12, expansion, and more WWW.JOHNCANZANO.COM Your questions. My answers.
  11. Especially on the defensive side. If memory serves me right, we have nine 4/5* DL/Edge, USC has one. The entire conference outside Oregon has three.
  12. This conversation is sliding toward ideology rather than sports. Let’s take the perceived mistakes of the CA government and people ("mistakes" largely defined by ideology) off the table and concentrate on the "wonderful" USC fans and their salty tears which we all can enjoy.
  13. Or he learned a valuable lesson. I don’t blame him at all. If decent team offered me 13 million dollars to play for them, heck yes, where do I sign. If that team couldn’t come up with the money, I’d walk and never look back.
  14. Can’t say I blame him. Less chance of serious injury and much more money. If I was a world class athlete with a choice I’d take baseball.

  16. GF more important than Olympic level track. Love makes fools of us all.
  17. Who knows what the future holds. Girlfriends and boyfriends are often so transient and in many ways Oregon would have been a better match. Good luck to the young man. My prediction Pleasant to USC.
  18. Crazy. His Instagram account had a post strongly suggesting Oregon but now that account looks down. Hacked post? I didn’t search correctly? Wiltfong has 100% South Carolina. Think him and Pleasant are going elsewhere. SC and USC.
  19. He likely has a problem with alcohol and probably killed his NFL career.
  20. And much of this isn’t guaranteed. Glad Justin is doing well. What most people get paid has nothing to do with merit. Sports is probably as close to meritocracy as humans will ever get.
