  1. Tragic indeed, what happened to the little town of Lahina and the residents there. Did you know Mick Fleetwood, the drummer for Fleetwood Mac, had a nifty little night club there and sometimes hosted all kinds of all old rockers as they dropped in to say hello? It went in the fire too. Wailuku is where our relatives live, almost completely opposite from Lahina. They hail from Dallas, Oregon initially and were here in Oregon visiting their cabin in Crescent when the fire occurred. I turned down th opportunity to visit Fleetwood's cub when we visited Lahina about three years ago. I'm going to forever regret that.
  2. I can vouch-safe for this. My sister-in-law and husband, and their entire clan now live on Maui and have for the last 25 years. Over in the islands Oregon is about the most popular team in the CFB and they do follow their local boys after they leave the islands for teams stateside.
  3. If they can keep their cool and don't commit a bunch of stupid penalties I think you may be right. But there is a lot of real talent on that team and for them to have gotten this far unbeaten is not to be discounted. Oregon should curb-stomp them. But will they? I hope yes!
  4. I don't know. The 'showman' will somehow turn it to motivation for his team, count on it. It's what he really does well. Even distractors like myself have to admit Deion is a master of the publicity stunt and motivation techniques which has Colorado playing way above they're level. Tomorrow they'll probably climb even higher in the AP.
  5. Oh, they almost all do it, and teams like Ala do it near the end of the season as "resting" games for key starters. That's not the point I wanted to make. It's that beating up on Hawaii the week before conference play in what is this year maybe the best season of the Pa-12 ever, does little to help Oregon get ready for all the really tough games upcoming. I don't fault them for scheduling them (in fact, Hawaii had a 3-game win streak against the Ducks) but just as PSU did little to prepare them for TT, Hawaii did little to prepare them for Colorado and beyond. Just my opinion which isn't worth 2 cents. Colorado, in the meantime, has had three really good games prior to facing Oregon. This is to their advantage, not Oregon's.
  6. Still too early to be writing Saban's team off but they sure don't look like they have the same ferocity and swagger they usually have. THIS is how much difference having a good QB (or not) can affect an entire team. I'll wager Alabama will be mining the transfer portal for someone soon. And I can imagine there are plenty of dissatisfied QB's out there in the CFB who'd love to be the one Nick picks. I also think Milroe is the best guy, not Buchner, they have right now. He might prove out yet.
  7. I really hate to say this but seeing this game made me really hate that Oregon had to play it. These games do little, imo, to elevate the ducks and prepare them for the onslaught of conference play. Tez played well, as I had thought he might. Bo looked good too. The best thing I can say is Oregon emerged with no serious injuries t(hat I know of) and some of the 2nds got more playing time. Still not overly impressed with Ty Thompson, but also nothing to criticize him about (as if I my criticism would mean anything, anyway). Still committing too many penalties but a win is a good thing and happy to see the Ducks at 3-0 again. GO DUCKS1
  8. In my opinion, this is what can happen to teams that play Colorado - all because of the publicity hype of the Colorado coach motivating his team. The shades, the trash talk, the flash & bling, the disrespect back and forth between the two coaches. I blame Deion for a lot of the bad feelings generated between the two teams. All done to motivate his own team and inflate his own immense ego. Oregon beware! The hype is about to really begin because for the first time since TCU Colorado is going to be facing a team that has the ability to curb-stop them. Deion will be looking for all the motivation he can find. Oregon has got to play a disciplined and perfectly executed game to hand the Buffalos the loss they sorely need to humble them. Don't give them a single inch or a single first down with stupid penalties. GO OREGON!
  9. The really amazing (yet pitiful) irony of all of this is that Deion Sanders has almost single-handedly brought more attention, national spotlight, buzz and interest in a nearly forgotten football program in ONE season as entire teams, (like Oregon) have struggled to build up the old-fashioned way: by winning - year in and year out How long did it take for Oregon to start getting the recognition it deserved before the media finally, grudgingly, began to acknowledge Oregon as a legitimate football power, a school to reckon with? Never underestimate the power of publicity, charisma and media spotlight when that media crowns a new Darling. Sanders and his team are on top of the CFB right now without really winning much of anything. And if they keep winning... well... I guess we'll start hearing about CFB Playoffs and Shedeur for Heisman. Egads.
  10. As I wrote earlier here somewhere on the board, I have lots of suspicions and puzzlements when it comes to AP pollsters. Being ranked #18 doesn't mean Colorado deserves a ranking that high any more than being ranked #13 means Oregon deserves a ranking that low. But pollsters thru some chicane process make their votes and as much as we'd like to hope it's all fair and equitable, it hardly ever seems like it is. And maybe it just can't be given the nature of college football and the vastly different and unequal conferences and schedules, team-to-team. Hawaii doesn't appear to offer Oregon much of a chance to rise in the polls. CU looks to be a team the AP can't wait to find and excuse for to break them into the top 10. To put it in terms of stocks. Hawaii offers Oregon little up-side potential; while simply winning (regardless of opponent) seems to be all the AP requires out of Colorado. Beating TT on the road netted Oregon zilch. From 13 to 13. Beating a lesser Nebraska at home netted Colorado +4 slots upward. Fortunately, regardless of where the two teams end up next week, they play on the 23rd and the AP will be forced to admit the winner deserves a higher ranking.
  11. Another item to consider is penalties. It's impossible to overstate how devastating offensive penalties (like was seen the TT game) are to an offense. Likewise, defensive penalties. Without looking past the Rainbow Warriors, penalties like we saw in the TT game could very well make the difference between beating the Buffs conclusively or losing to them narrowly. It strikes me that the very nature of Colorado is one the Ducks can ill afford to give any free 1st downs to - or have any subtracted from when Oregon is on offense. It'd be a pity if it came down to penalties instead of execution and performance. Hawaii gives the Ducks a chance get that cleaned up. I think I've said enough on that. GO OREGON - BEAT THE RAINBOW WARRIORS!
  12. We could always nickname Maytao "Lefty"
  13. One can only imagine what he has in mind for his visit to Autzen on the 23rd. The last thing O needs is for someone at the University to say something he can latch on to. He has enough already. Oh, and if CGD is fair, they'll politely decline the shades. I predict they won't decline.
  14. No, I think O needs Hawaii to clean some things up before Colorado comes in. I just wish Hawaii wasn't a 37 point dog. It would be better for O is they were playing a14 point dog instead.
  15. I only asked this question because it was posed to me by a season-ticket holder who does not participate on this forum. He loathes DS and hates all the publicity he's generating at Colorado and how much the media seem to be in love with the Buffalos all of the sudden. Since Oregon has been "stuck" at 13 and Colorado has been rising like quick yeast, he fears the possibility. I couldn't answer his question because sometimes everything the pollsters do is questionable to me. I can see Colorado rising even higher if they beat CSU by more than the spread (depending on what other teams above they do) but I don't see Oregon rising with a win against Hawaii. Maybe O#13 and CU #15 ? Assuming Colorado beats the spread and O doesn't. The media love their darlin's...
  16. I take that as a H___ NO! lol
  17. Matayo's name makes the rest seem easy, by comparison. None of them just roll off the tongue.
  18. Some dangerous assumptions here: #13 Oregon takes care of business against an out-classed opponent tomorrow, winning by +30. (O-37.5) Also, #18 Colorado wrecks havoc on CSU (which I think is very likely given the way things are going) and runs the score up to +30. (C-20.5) After Colorado beats CSU into submission, will the pollsters "reward" them with a leap over the Ducks who are playing their 2nd out-classed opponent, (esp. after the close call in Lubbock). Remember, Colorado's close win was also on the road but against a higher ranked TCU. SOS alone makes this interesting. Maybe Lanning needs to bear down on Hawaii tomorrow, 'Ohana' not-with-standing
  19. Luv him or hate him, Sanders is a master of publicity. His entire life has been built on publicity surrounding himself. Personally, I think his move to equip his entire team with sunglasses was a brilliant response to a coach who just gave the Buffalos even more motive than they may have had before. There will be no more over-looking CSU now. Expect a high-score run-up to go even higher. I do so hope Lanning has learned a lesson here, even if the Ducks beat the Buffs decisively. It's the only instance I can think of where he might have regretted a public statement he's made. GO DUCKS!
  20. That's a lot to respond to and I won't attempt it. I'll just ask the question "might we be underestimating Colorado here a bit"? I know what a lot of very smart people are saying about the Buffalos but I also know what I've seen on the field from them so far. I think Oregon wins, but in a close shave from a very confident, very well-prepared and very well-motivated team, likewise loaded with talent. What's this all got to do with the thread? If the Offensive line has success against Colorado they will have earned it. This will be no gimme, imho.
  21. I don't think 'hate' has anything to do with it. It's just the tremendous over-hype the whole situation is generating. And for that we can blame the media, not Deion Sanders. If the Pac-12 were not dissolving next year, I'd certainly be happy to see Colorado's resurgence. Once they move to the Big 12 I really don't care - unless Oregon faces them again in a playoff game some day.
  22. More like the flavor of the entire CFB season. It's growing week-by-week and will unless Colorado loses a few games.
  23. My guess as well. This puts even more pressure on Oregon to humble the 'humble-less'. But I expect it will be a close shave for the Ducks. The Buffalos will be motivated like never before because Oregon is relatively highly ranked. Again, assuming both teams win tomorrow.
  24. Yep, the 36 points is too big, but East Bay Quack got his prediction in before I could react. -20.5 is too low - Deion has this team believing they have to lay the lumber on everyone they play and will not be content with a 20 point win.
