  2. How far Oregon has to travel to play every team in the Big Ten Conference The Oregon Ducks are reportedly heading to the Big Ten Conference, per multiple reports that came out on Friday morning. Whether you love the news or hate the news, it appears that the future has been set, and the Ducks will now be joining up with the USC Trojans, UCLA Bruins, and Washington Huskies once again in a conference with Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, and Penn State. While the competition on the football field will be excellent to watch, one of the main downsides of this expected partnership is the travel that will coincide with these games, both for teams and for fans. There is still a small contingent of teams on the west coast, but for the most part, Oregon will be asked to travel to the Midwest and the east coast multiple times per year now in order to play in-conference games. So how far will they actually be traveling in order to get to all of their opponents? We looked it up. 3. Oregon vs. Oregon State rivalry to remain despite Ducks' move to Big Ten One of those major downsides is the fact that Oregon and Oregon State will no longer be members of the same conference. While that rivalry is among the most storied in the history of college football, it’s now unclear what the future holds for it. However, a press release from the University of Oregon after the move was finalized on Friday might give a bit of assurance to fans that still wish to watch the rivalry formerly known as the Civil War year after years. “In coming years, the UO will prioritize the long-held traditions, including competition across all sports with Oregon State University,” the university wrote in a press release on Friday afternoon. Oregon vs. Oregon State rivalry to remain despite Ducks’ Big Ten move DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Oregon and Oregon State are separating, but the two schools remain committed to keeping the rivalry alive across all sports.
  4. Oregon representative calls for panel to look at 'unintended consequences' of Ducks' potential move One Oregon representative is calling for a legislative panel to look at and “understand the unintended consequences” of Oregon’s potential move away from the Pac-12. That comes on the heels of Friday’s report that the Ducks — along with Washington — are expected to leave the league to join the B1G. According to a Friday statement, Oregon representative Shelly Boshart is worried that state taxpayers “could be at risk” with the future of the Pac-12 currently uncertain. Boshart called for House Speaker Dan Rayfield to convene a legislative panel to take a look at the unintended consequences. “As a graduate of Oregon State and as a representative of a district that houses many OSU students, I am deeply concerned about the impacts on our state university system if the University of Oregon decides to leave the Pac-12,” writes Boshart. “There are many unanswered questions about what these moves mean for Oregonians beyond just the end of one of the nation’s longest-running rivalry football games. If one of our major universities is going to make a unilateral decision that could impact Oregon’s budget, we should at least understand the full impacts. At the most, the people’s representatives should have a say.” Oregon representative calls for panel to look at ‘unintended consequences’ of Ducks’ potential move SATURDAYTRADITION.COM Oregon representative wants a full look at the potential ramifications of the Ducks looking to leave the Pac-12.

  6. 6 suggested new names for the Big Ten Conference, which reportedly could get Oregon and Washington Uh, it’s certainly been a chaotic Friday in college sports, and as of publishing this, it might get nuttier. There was uncertainty about what could happen to the Pac-12 — at first, there was talk that Oregon and Washington (and perhaps others?) might leave for the Big Ten. Then? Maybe that wasn’t happening. But now there’s a report that the Ducks and Huskies will join the Big Ten, and that could lead to the Pac-12 (er, 10?) crumbling. Which brings us to important business: What the heck are they going to call the Big Ten when there will be a lot more than 10 teams in it? Twitter had thoughts... 7. Big Ten clears way for Oregon, Washington to join, AP sources say, putting Pac-12 on brink The Big Ten has cleared the way for Oregon and Washington to apply for membership and join the conference, four people with familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Friday, dealing a crushing blow to the beleaguered Pac-12. The people spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the Big Ten and the schools in the Pacific Northwest were finalizing an official agreement and announcement. The Ducks and Huskies from the Pac-12 still must officially apply for membership and the Big Ten presidents, who met Friday morning to discuss expansion, need to officially approve any moves. Two of the people familiar with the negotiations said the schools' applications are expected to be approved unanimously. 13. Notre Dame won't change view on independence if Big Ten expands further, per report Notre Dame will not be influenced to give up its independence if the Big Ten makes any additional moves, according to new reporting from ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The Big Ten is exploring the possibility of adding Oregon and Washington to its ranks as the Pac-12 continues to show signs of splintering. Thamel has reported that the Big Ten doesn’t want to be viewed as “predatory” and could be waiting for the two Arizona schools to bolt for the Big 12 before making a move itself. Oregon, according to Thamel, is the key to this next round of movement. If the Ducks move for the Big Ten, Thamel reported on Thursday that Washington would join with them. If the Ducks decide they’re comfortable remaining in the Pac-12 and being the new flag-bearer for the conference when the College Football Playoff expands, the picture could change. Either way, Notre Dame appears to be content to sit. That doesn't appear to be changing soon.
  14. Oregon Isn't Slowing Down in Pursuit of USC Commit Dakoda Fields Southern California has always been a fertile recruiting ground for college football's elite. Year after year top recruits ink their commitments with schools like Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and Oregon--just to name a few. Oregon has been prioritizing Southern California, and dominating on the recruiting trail in recent cycles. But "lost" a key recruiting battle early on in the 2024 cycle when Gardena (Calif.) Serra cornerback Dakoda Fields committed to USC back in June. But that recruitment is far from over, and that was obvious when Fields, an elite 6-foot-2, 185-pound defensive back, popped up in Eugene last week for Oregon's Saturday Night Live Camp. 17. Realignment Intel: The Pac-12's final cry; Clemson, FSU go stir-crazy The future of the Pac-12 as a viable conference will be determined by the end of the week as the conference tries to fend off vultures from the Big 12 and Big Ten over the next 48 hours. The 2022 OSAA 5A Player of the Year for Lebanon High School, Holden hit .260 with four home runs and 23 RBIs and started 39 games as a freshman for the Vikings last season. “It’s always a little more special to have someone from Oregon play for the Ducks because you know how much it means to them,” Oregon coach Melyssa Lombardi said in a statement. “We are excited to have Trinity join the program. 19. Big Ten Presidents Met Early Thursday Morning To Discuss Expansion According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, presidents from the Big Ten met early on Thursday morning to discuss next steps on expansion. Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti has been authorized to officially explore expansion, particularly as it pertains to Oregon and Washington joining as new members. Thamel says that no official offers have been made to the two universities, and there is uncertainty surrounding a deal, but the Big Ten has the most compelling argument among the remaining major conferences. USC has been opposed to the idea of adding more teams from the West Coast to the Big Ten - they are set to join next year, along with UCLA - but the Trojans do not have a vote on expansion yet. The Big Ten could vote to add their former Pac-12 rivals without even consulting them. Another hurdle that needs to be cleared is the matter of what revenue split Oregon and Washington would have as Big Ten members. To access the article, click here.
