  1. ... and that starts in the first half. A 20 minute break isn't enough for full recovery.
  2. Best case scenario, Riley leaves and USC promotes Grinch.
  3. What the Ducks couldn't do: They couldn't go into the game as a 1-6 total rebuild team, after UW just escaped the previous week with a very emotional win against a top 10 team and arch rival. They couldn't play against a Penix that was totally banged up from the many hits he took in the 4th quarter the previous week. They couldn't play against a Penix that, for the first time this year was mostly ineffective, throwing several picks and no touchdowns. They couldn't surprise the Huskies with an unexpected very good defense, because the Huskies KNEW we had a very good defense and prepared for it. What the Ducks did do: They followed the extremely close and emotional UW vs UO game with an impressive and dominant win over a very good WSU team who was ranked most of the year... while UW DID NOT play well at all and almost fumbled the game away against one of the worst teams (this year) in all of D1 college football. See ya in December, Dawgs.
  4. On slow starts: In the first quarter both teams are up and ready to go. Everyone is fresh. NOBODY is tired or warn out. I remember the CK days where we would blow people out of the water... but it was seldom in the first half against a good team. The lightening fast plays wore people down so that, by the second half, they were getting totally gassed... and the rout was on. I stated last week that I was confident that the Ducks would win the second half - because we were rotating in D-linemen and they couldn't rotate in as many O-linemen. We did win the second half, but only by one point. UW often scored so fast that their line didn't have time to get too tired. We saw the same thing against WSU this weekend. They played us close the first quarter, not so good the second, lousy in the third, and better in the fourth - which was garbage time. Same thing with Stanford. Folks thought we were sleeping, but Stanford had a good game plan and played it well for one quarter. Then they got gassed and couldn't do anything. When the first half is close, don't blame the coaches or the players. Give credit to the other team, and feel for them, because in the second half they will start to feel the hurt from not having as many 1b players to rotate in as the Ducks have. Speaking of feeling the hurt, towards the end of the game last week, Penix was feeling the hurt. I was surprised and impressed that he stayed in the game and was effective. If we were playing 5 quarters, the Ducks would have won by two touchdowns.
  5. $10 million a year??? I suppose it was worth it getting the fans excited again. He is definitely an upgrade from the last guy.
  6. Maybe he wanted to see for himself that you really CAN recruit to Oregon.
  7. Last year I rewatched the Georgia game... ...sometime after the season was over. Then I deleted it forever.
  8. I was thinking this same scenario would give the Ducks and Huskies a chance to play each other 3 times in one year. The "impossible" could happen this year. Best 2 out of 3???
  9. Cristobal blew games we should not have lost to. (Ranked 3 in the NATION and lost to Stanford when they were way down???????). Losing to UW who is one of the best teams in the nation right now is NOT in the same category. DL just lost a game that we were confident he would win... but in fact was a toss-up in their house. Everyone says that they consider home field advantage worth 3 points. Hmmm. It was!
  10. My three most hated words in sports: Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda. Yes. We woulda, coulda, shoulda won that game. The only times I disagreed with DL on the calls where the two chip shot field goals that he decided not to take. BUT... if we went into the half with touchdown instead of a field goal, everyone would have been praising his faith in this players. It was a calculated risk, and he took it. Who am I to second guess the guy we all think is the one who will lead this team to playoffs and to a national championship??? I totally agreed with the call to go for it instead of punting in the last three minutes of the game. Two reasons: 1) Making it on 4th down would have iced the game. We would have won. 2) Putting UW back inside the 15 would not have changed the eventual outcome. Penix would have thrown two long passes and they would have scored the touchdown anyway... AND they would have burned more clock having to go the extra 30-40 yards. We would not have had time to come back and score. Dan Lanning and the other coached didn't play a single snap... not on offence or on defense. The called a good game, and for the most part, the players executed very well. I have no complaints. Going into halftime, I felt confident that the Ducks would win the second half... mostly because we were rotating in fresh bodies on the D-line and they didn't have as many bodies to rotate in on the O-line. We got to Penix and hit him good in the second half. He was really hurting late in the 4th quarter. We did win the second half but by only 1 point. I was suspecting it would be by more than a touchdown. Let's beat them in the final PAC-12 Championship Game!
  11. Quote from the article: I have more commentary than you have time... Comment: It might be close, but I doubt it. Thanks for the good article. The article, along with all the comments above give us lots of things to look for.
  12. Reading the article, watching the vids... the question comes to mind, ¿How can we lose?
  13. My three are: 1. Both offense and defense need to come out of the gate running. The defense getting a couple stops early while the offense scores early will take the fizz out of the fans. 2. Rotate all the great bodies through on defense so that effort stays strong through the end of the 4th quarter. UW does not have as many quality bodies and their 1s will wear down over the course of the game. Strong fresh bodies will beat tired bodies almost every play. Like Dan says, he wants to play and finish the 4th quarter well. This is the way to do it. 3. Continue tight man-to-man on their receivers while putting exotic pressures on the QB. Hope to get panic forced throw aways and tiny windows as the pocket collapses or defenders are closing in on the scrambling QB.
  14. Something that recruits and their families need to watch if they want to know Lanning and Oregon.
  15. I'm definitely on the side of Cam coming back very cautiously and SLOWLY. He can play in 4 games and still redshirt. If he is "good to go", I would play him a little in garbage time, winning or losing. The NFL draft is crowded with QBs this year. He should return next year, win the Big 12, play in and maybe win a playoff game, THEN go for the draft and NFL $. I am sure he is making enough NIL money to be able to survive financially one more year of University life.
  16. The Arizona game was UW's trap game, and they escaped with the win. If they were playing the Ducks last week, they would have played a lot more juiced and focused. They will bring their best game (as possible) against the Ducks.
  17. Was I worried? Not at all. What I was: like FishDuck said it above, I was very impressed with Stanford's game plan and their ability to execute it for 2.5 drives. But, even after they scored twice, I knew that they didn't have a chance because they were only up by 6. One touchdown erases all of that. All the Ducks needed was a couple of first downs... and the rest is history. What was impressive was the Duck's ability to keep the Tree from scoring in the 4th quarter.
  18. An observation on playing freshmen who can: College kids normally get 4 years of eligible playing time. Top teer student athletes almost never play their 4th year of eligibility. Why redshirt a kid who will probably be gone after playing 3 years anyway? "If he's good enough to play, he's old enough to play." On Jurian Dickey: When you are as good as he is at getting open, catching the ball, and juking the defender out of his shoes... How much blocking do you [have to/get to] do in high school? Now, he is not the only guy who can catch the ball. Maybe he has a few more things to learn before he is a freshman who can. We will see him soon.
  19. Well, Steven took mine, so I´ll go with 20-14 Beavers.
  20. Great that they put Casey Rogers center stage after he took center stage last week against CU.
  21. To me, it doesn't matter who has the edge right now. I want to see the Oregon D be just as sharp and as tight at Stanford as they were last week. Improvement every week. Even if UW is ahead by a nose right now, they may still be behind by a length by game day. I expect to see Oregon in the winners' circle in two weeks.
