  1. That's a great point Charles! Bo has lots to work with on offense and a defense to lean on. Bo put himself into a great situation transferring to Oregon.
  2. This article is content you will only find in the OBD Forum, where you can also only find the FishDuck Feed. The answer to the Bo Nix riddle that we have long discussed is upon us Duck fans! Before dinner time Saturday will we be pumping our fists or wringing our hands over Nix? Nix has struggled in his three games against the Dawgs, losing all three meetings by a combined score of 82-30. He has thrown for one touchdown, two interceptions and been sacked seven times. He also hasn’t been able to stretch the field against Georgia, while completing 56% of his passes. Nix, and Duck fans are hoping things change this Saturday. There are some key things Nix will have to show he has improved on to have success against the Dawgs this Saturday. He needs to play with a calmer, more patient demeanor. He is surrounded with the best offensive line he has had in his career, and he has the skill players he needs to make the offense go. Nix needs to protect the ball and avoid feeling like he must extend the plays with his feet and carry the team. When he plays that way, he tends to make mistakes. He can embrace that he can throw the ball away and move onto to the next play. These little changes will lead to Nix finishing more drives with points. Being a ball distributor should put less pressure on Nix. Getting through his reads, while staying in the pocket while the deeper routes develop, is another key area. Nix needs to set his feet and drive the ball down the field with confidence. The table is set for Nix, this is his chance to show that he can beat you from the pocket. Big-time QBs make big-time throws and it’s time for him to hit them against Georgia. What's success for Bo Nix going to look like? If Nix has NFL aspirations, then he must show he can beat you with his arm to any part of the field. If he does that, I’m looking for him to throw for 300 yards and three touchdowns… that’s when Nix shakes his bad rap. Duck fans do you think Bo Nix will make the big-time throws this Saturday?
  3. No, he didn't. But the Portal moves of Gonzo, Taki, Riley and Rogers just made Lanning's poker had that much stronger.
  4. If Ty or Butter was thinking of hitting the Portal after fall camp, they are stuck now. If Bo has a good year and goes Pro, then Ty and Butters are back in a Spring battle for QB1. Do they both stay for the Spring 2023 or does one of them hit the Portal when it opens in December this year? It seems like this new rule will help coaches retain players with the carrot of in the Spring it's your shot to win the job.
  5. The early signing day for high school players this year is December 15th. December 20th the Bowl Pairings come out and the Portal opens. At that point coaches have to be 100 MPH in the portal to fill any holes in the roster, and the competition will be fierce. The backchannel NIL money will be in play. This rule just seems like it's going to make a free for all.
  6. The NCAA sure got smacked down with the NIL, but still have the power on the portal and transfer rules-- for now. You may be right on the injunction, that would be another nail in the NCAA's coffin.
  7. The NCAA has the power to set the rules for the Transfer Portal, that's not in dispute. I don't think a judge is going to grant an injunction allowing for the Portal to be open fulltime. They have two windows for a 60 day total they can enter the portal. If a judge did grant an injunction it would really cut the legs out from under the NCCA. What would be next? An injunction allowing players to sign letters of intent all year long?
  8. Well put Drex! I think Dye could be a 2000 all-purpose yard guy in Riley's scheme if they give him the touches. We know Dye can run and catch the ball; he will be a problem to defend. Caleb Williams has the luxury of checking down to Travis Dye when the play down field isn't there.
  9. Great Article Charles! The personnel on the Ducks defense and Dan Lanning as our new coach is a HUGE story this year! Lanning has all the Dudes he needs to unleash his scheme and it will be interesting to see how he uses his personnel. For instance, will Lanning keep All-American Sewell in on a 3rd and 15 to play pass coverage? Or will he bring in Bassa the converted safety who is better in running with RBs and TE's in pass coverage? Can you take Sewell of the field on 3rd and 15 or is that insane? Will Lanning put the 6'3" Bridges with his seven-foot wingspan at Star to take on Georgia's All-American TE Brock Bowers in one-on-one coverage? There is going to be so many new things Lanning does with all the talent he has... Lanning is a thinker, and his options aren't limited by his personnel, they are actually wide open.
  10. I pulled this off the FishDuck Feed... The NCCA established two windows football players can enter the Transfer Portal in. These rules will go into effect for the coming 2022 - 2023 season! The first is for 45 days after the Championship Pairings are made - or when the bowl selections are announced. The second window May 1st - 15th is the two weeks after Spring ball ends. Players are still allowed a one-time transfer and retain immediate eligibility. The unlimited transfer rule was rejected. There is no more jumping into the Portal all year long. QBs who lose the fall camp battle for QB1 will no longer be able to jump in the Portal at the end of camp. Players might as well stay on the roster for the season and see what playing time they get, unless they plan to use a redshirt year. This will make the two transfer windows see furious action as teams compete to sign players. I expect the NIL (Jordan Addison and USC) backchannel recruiting of players trying to convince them to enter the Portal will peak before these two windows. What do you Duck fans think of the changes? Looks like we keep Ty and Butters for the whole season now as the Portal will be closed! NCAA board approves transfer portal windows, 'modernizes' infractions process - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM The board did not, however, approve the unlimited transfer concept
  11. Last year's OL wasn't bad... but our offensive scheme didn't help them. It wasn't like teams were going two deep safeties to defend us from going over the top. Not only did teams stack the box against the run, but they also knew on third down the deepest route ran would be just past the chains. So, they jumped any route close to the chains and they knew if they were going to get pressure on the QB they had to get there fast. I think we can run on UGA. Go back and watch the 2nd half of the UW game in the pouring rain. We just went straight to the run game and mauled them; I think I saw one missed block by the OL and WRs in the whole 2nd half. UW knew it was coming and couldn't stop it. In the UGA game with a deeper passing game, a better passing game, the Ducks OL is going to open some holes against UGA. We ran for over 250 yards against OSU in the Shoe last year and broke the long Verdel TD. Pass protection is a bigger worry with UGA, but we can chip with the TE or RB on the edge guys if we have too.
  12. I remember we lost a game like 15-12 in overtime to Tree in overtime, and if Chip had kicked some darn field goals we would have won. Chip was who he was, he played to not only to win, but to bury you. Good article BTW- you hit on something that has been missing.
  13. This article makes me wonder if Chip went for it on 4th down in the redzone more times than he tried a field goal kick during the season.
  14. Ya the front seven is our strength. We can have a legit six-man DL rotation Brandon Dorlus and Popo Aumavae are 1st All Pac dudes. Taki the UW DL transfer was top 5 in Pac rated by PPF last year Hudson-Ware 4 star our of Mater Dei The two Nebraska DL transfers Jordan Riley the senior and Casey Rogers the junior who has 43 tackles the last two years. 247 Composite edge guys DJ Jonhson and Mase Funa - both Top 80 dudes. Braydn Swinson is 3-star pass rush dude off the edge. 4-star backups to Flowe and Sewell are LaDuke, Brown and Bassa. Star safety Bennet Willimas was freshman All-American Transfer Christan Gonzalez was All-Pac corner last year and some are saying might be a 1st rounder, I got see more. Donte Manning is a 5-star corner. The Duck's defense is at a talent cycle peak like the Dawgs were last year. We will lose 7 starters after this year. Flowe, Sewell, DJ, Funa, Dorlus and Willimas all get drafted, but not 5 of them in the first round.
  15. Mondon was the smaller 5-star LB recruit last year and JD-J was the Top 200 who was bigger. I thought they would be swapped with Mondon at the Money being smaller, faster and in more pass coverage? You got four dudes who are 5-star starters on D right? Smith, Ringo, Carter and Mondon.
  16. Did anyone ask him how he likes the neighborhood around the Campus compared to Eugene?
  17. UGA has new inside backers I've said we should try to confuse and catch in a bust. Lookie here, Coach Boles with a GoGo wheel route to attack the MLBs The GoGo Offense: Mesh Wheel Concept FISHDUCK.COM Coach Eric Boles dives into the mesh wheel concept utilized within Coach Brennan Marion's GoGo offense.
  18. I say we give them a few plays to scratch their head over this. Look at the WR trips at the field side and RBs off set to that side and then the huge line splits on the weak side of the line. Betcha Kirby would call a timeout if he saw that.
  19. How about I get you an eye roll going and say we should run some two back offsets with wonky line splits for a few plays? haha The GoGo look -- Dilly has run some two back sets; I like some of the offset two back run plays that are not something UGA has seen. I'm going to be watching if Dilly does this. I just can't let go seeing a few GoGo tweaks thrown in once in a while. I gonna stay beating this horse for a few games.
  20. Well to not run into 8 defenders in the box like Mario would for starters. The UGA inside backers are new so they are either going to be slow on their reads or jump their reads. We could run some inside zone, misdirection, fly sweep looks where we give it or fake handoff on the sweep. Coach Boles had that Down-G play that we can get after the backers with. We also need to attack the backers in the pass game, maybe we can hit a RB for a wheel route on a big play. None of us are really savvy on Dillys playbook, so we are going to learn lots.
  21. Heck of a post. I watched both the videos and stopped them pre-snap to look at the D sets. Bo makes some awesome throws, but they don't show many of his misses. Based on his good throws you gotta feel like he can make a jump here this year with Dilly, we will see though. Will Anderson the Bama edge has one heck of a get off when he wants to, man! The Dawgs OL communicated well and did a good job picking stuff up, they didn't blow many assignments. I noticed the Dawgs DB's lost some guys switching off in zone, I seems they played more man-to-man in the Natty. It also seems like Lanning's scheme was way more aggressive and disguised his pressures more than D-Rut. But I maybe I'm just being hard on D-Rut based on how irked I was last season. Nice post man, good work and thanks.
  22. I think it's going to make it harder for the elite schools to stash QB talent on the roster.
  23. I agree it was a no brainer for Burton to jump to Bama and play with Young -- he will get more balls for sure. The Dawgs have a QB pickle behind Bennett that will shake out and Kirby will have to play right. Carson Beck the four-star is projected to be QB2 over five-star Brock Vandagriff going into this season. It's assumed the 2023 Spring will set that pecking order between them. But Smart is better off to leave it an open battle into the fall. If Beck is named the starter in the Spring -- Vandagriff could hit the portal. Of if Vandagriff get the job in the Spring -- Beck could hit the portal. Coaches are better served to drag out the QB battles until the fall to keep one QB from hitting the portal. Even then you still have the chance of the odd QB out hitting the portal right after fall camp. It could happen at Oregon next week, Butters if he is QB3 could hit the portal and look to get a jump on finding a new spot. Or Ty if he lands QB2 but feels he isn't going to play much could hit the portal. It's not a stretch to think some have not coach would take Ty this fall and name him his 2023 starter, then try to lure some transfer WRs. The same could happen with Vandagriff, you build around five-star QBs if you can get one. On top of all the isn't the NCAA thinking of allowing instant transfer and play? That will be nuts. Lose the job in fall camp, hit the portal and play week 2?
  24. That's a really good point, will lose at least 4 starters off the Oline next year. So, getting game time for David Luli, Bram Walden, Conerly Jr and JPJ this year should be done in blow outs.
  25. Lots of good posts guys! The Ducks certainly showed they were opening up the passing game in the Spring Game. I think that trend will continue, though with our defense we won't want the QBs being careless with the ball this season. There is a definite trend across the nation with offensive minded coaches and transfer portal reboots going on in college football. UW hired DeBoer, brought in QB Penix Jr and some WRs and RBs. Wazzu did a reboot. Arizona got transfer QB Jayden De Laura, WR Jacob Cowing out of the portal and 2022 WR recruit Tetairoa McMillian a high four-star WR. USC has loaded up on offense. Keep in mind next year we lose up to 7 starters off the defense and the offense will have to win us games. So, it's important our QBs - WRs develop this year. Come 2023 the Ducks are going to have to put up points in bunches to outscore teams. The other factor is will we see one of the young QBs transfer if Bo is the guy all year and Donte Moore is coming next year? In recent years we have seen lots of QB transfer and last year there was a crazy number of head coaching changes. Will Butters or Ty hit the portal and shop for a school that they will be QB1 at and get to air it out? Maybe they jump into a school with a new coach and a reboot? Cameron Ward will be going pro after this year - does Ty or Butters jump to Wazzu? Could we see Shaw at Stanford upgrade his offensive from the power run-play action to a more spread passing system? Or is he going to hold onto to the same hand he has always been playing? It obvious that the passing game is exploding in college football and Mario-Shaw ball isn't vouge and as fun to play in. The "no block no rock" doesn't resonate with WRs. You really have to keep up with the Joneses, if you want to get good QBs and WRs -- then keep them. I wouldn't be surprised if TY is QB2 that he doesn't get as much playing time as possible to develop him and keep him in the fold for next year. Can you really sit five-star and high four-star QBs and think they won't hit the portal? I think you really have to plan to get one in every chance you get in blow out games at the least.
