How Stunned Are You at Mens Basketball Turnaround?
spartan2785 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I actually respect Richardson for what he's done this year, he's put in an effort, he's done what he can, but it's true he's not a natural leader. He's really tried to change that, he's actually tried to take over games, he's just not that type of player, and he's had ZERO help from his fellow guards/wings until the other day. Dante has been a beast all year, it's been a two man team essentially until the Zona game, Guerrier has been a huge disappointment, we desperately needed him to be a consistent 3rd scorer and it's just hasn't worked out. I think they also expected Ware to be more of a force, but he's just fizzled out after a few good games early. This has been a really disappointing year, in general I've enjoyed Duck basketball both men's and women's more than football since generally they've had such an upward trajectory each year, they get better over time, which in general has not been the case with football, plus I like that you don't essentially feel like the season is over after one loss, so this has been tough to see us so poor most of the year and not even that fun to watch. I think our best hope is to grow until the conference tourney and then win it there, we've generally been the best tourney team in the Pac-12, and I could actually see us winning there, we won't win enough games or big games to get in as an at large, so the best hope is to build towards Vegas and go ball out. -
How Stunned Are You at Mens Basketball Turnaround?

It was a great win, I am happy that the team got to experience it, but with respect a turnaround would be a winning streak of more than just one game, last week they basically did the exact same thing, get embarrassed in one game and then bounce back, I'll start to believe if we can actually win 4 in a row. Cousinard is a good player, he helps the team a lot, but the team needs to be consistent now, not go Jekyll and Hyde every week. Cal and Stanford are not good teams, they have to sweep them. If we don't, then it's just more of the same from this group. Charles, I appreciate you being optimistic and trying to back the team, but I have to see it over more than just one game at home. With all that said, Cousinard really did provide what has been missing all year, if he can maintain that then we will be better the rest of the way. His numbers in the past say he isn't that type of shooter, but he is a scorer, so it does help Richardson a ton to have someone who can help him in the backcourt. I think the point about Dana's assistants is a good one, I've wondered about that, he had the same staff for a good while, there can be some adjustment with that, -
Makes me wonder why he didn't get more touches, there were times in the 4th quarter in close games where he needed to be one getting the rock instead of Whittington or James, Seems like a major mistake not to have your best back in during crunch time. Whittington is a good back, but Bucky is the clear RB1.

Transfer Portal: Players of Interest
spartan2785 replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Honestly it seems like a players you guys might go for, I just hope he isn't going to USC. -
Because they'll just be sued and they will lose the case as they have over and over now on this issue. The issue is that even if we begin to get to the point where schools pay players as employees, that doesn't mean squat in regards to NIL. You can have a salary cap in a league like the NFL, but that doesn't mean there is any cap on the amount that a player can make off of endorsements. So you'll still have these collectives and boosters who will bid for players by promising to get them an endorsement deal that is basically bunk, I mean does anyone think any of these players are actually providing any real value for the things they are promoting!

It's the same thing all the time for Arizona, they foul every possession so that refs are forced to not call anything since they would foul out of the game, helps as well that Barnes whines the entire game and post game if they lose. Simple fact though is win the game if Arizona doesn't shoot out of their minds from 3 or if we don't make about 10 boneheaded weak passes.

What Do YOU Think of Coach Lanning's Tattoo?
spartan2785 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Well I will say I do like the Oregon part, hopefully that shows how committed he is to staying here since he's tattooed a symbol on his body, of course he could always get it removed or altered, but still not sure if I would do that if I thought there was a chance I might bounce at the right opportunity if it comes up in the next couple years. -
Mens Basketball Turned the Corner?
spartan2785 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Look, I want to believe you, I really really do, but until I see guys actually able to shoot the ball at better than a 30% clip, I'm pessimistic, Couisnard is not a good shooter, he's shot below 40% in all his previous seasons, he's best mark from 3 is 32%, Barthelemy is also not a good shooter, 42% and 34% from three (he is a good foul shooter though). Rigsby has not shot well, Soares is probably one of the worst shooters we've had at Oregon as a guard in the last 20 years. Bittle look like a bust, hasn't shot well during his career at Oregon and hasn't shown much really other than a few blocks and rebounds because he's a 7 footer. It's a really really poorly constructed team. I'm sure they'll be better through sheer numbers, but one game after a complete embarrassment doesn't fill me with much confidence, it's not like they played well, they hung on at the end in a game they should have put to bed. Utah shot poorly, and basically played their worst game in-conference. This team is so far away from being decent. I could be wrong of course, I know Altman has worked magic, he does have two good players in Richardson and Dante who have done all they can to keep this team together, but if we're relying on transfer guards who are just now playing it's going to take a lot of time before they are up to speed. I do agree with getting Bittle on the court more than Soares, just from the stroke I can see he's a better shooter, and he probably creates a matchup problem if he can begin to show what made him a 5 star recruit, if at least deserves to be given the chance to grow. Ware also began to get back into things against Utah, so that would be a huge thing if he can begin to get back to how he was early in the season. If we get a sweep of the Zona schools then I'll start to believe, but I'm pessimistic since the evidence so far doesn't bode well. All this said it's not like I'm even close to questioning Altman as a coach, he's been hard done by injuries for a number of years now. He's still one of the best 3 coaches in the Pac. -
Yikes: Brutal Draft Analysis of Noah Sewell
spartan2785 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yeah I would agree with that, maybe not to the extent that I would say he's undraftable, but he's certainly not a first day guy. I can't think of a game this year where I would say he jumped out and made you take notice. Can anyone think of a game where he just completely dominated a game? I certainly can't think of one against a quality opponent. He needs to lose weight, get some more agility in him, stop taking plays off, and actually work. -
Big game against Arizona next up I hate that Arizona team and their coach, whiney, always fouling, it's never their fault when they lose, just a very frustrating team to go against. Oregon really needs to establish themselves as one of the teams to beat with a road win, we already dropped one at home, now we need to pick one up on the road...

That would be very surprising to see someone make the jump from NAIA, not saying it's a bad move as I'm sure very few actually know anything about a guy coaching at Ottawa University!

An Early Look at the Oregon Ducks' 2023 Football Schedule
spartan2785 replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Tough road schedule, Tech is going to be a more difficult game than many might expect, they looked good against Ole Miss, Shough is coming back for them, and it's going to be more of the Air Raid offense that we never seem to handle well. Our conference away games seem to include two of our bogey teams in ASU and Stanford (at least road games against them), and the other two are against the what are probably two better and more difficult places to play away. At least we don't play Georgia in Georgia to start the year (yesh!) -
Once again I question the type of players that we are bringing in, not one pure shooter on this team, that's inexcusable. The guys we are bringing in for next year are pretty similar, slashers, it's great if you have guys who can get to the hole, or big men who can score inside. In addition though you have to have snipers to open up the lane, and it seems like Altman has completely forgotten this. I put this completely on how Altman has put together his roster, the team isn't constructed right, some of them are good pieces, but they don't go together.

Canzano: College Football Playoff Wants to Empty Your Pockets
spartan2785 replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yes, a million times Mac>Matt for the court design alone, please Oregon get rid of the most ugly court design in the history of basketball. Do everyone a favor and have something where you can actually see the line on the court and not some thing that looks like an ugly shade of brown throw up. I will admit I'm a short guy (5'6) and even I had trouble at times with my knees in some of those seats, but everything else from the band playing during every time out, not having the scoreboard constantly doing a kissing cam, or face emoji cam or something else, to the noise created, to even just the heat you would have in there. I miss Mac Court so much, Matt Court just feels bland in comparison. Not that you can't have a great atmosphere, I remember the big games against Arizona and UCLA that were close in feel to the Mac Court, but it still just doesn't compare imo. All this said I understand that it needed to be done, and Matt Court is good for what it is, still doesn't mean I don't wish we could go back in time and see the old scoreboard shake. Football is a better experience overall, it's pretty similar to the 90s early 00s, a bit rowdy fans, but it still is good for the most part, it's basketball where I think there's been more of a dropoff. -
I feel both happy and sorry for Richardson, he's being asked to do everything, with little help from his backcourt mates, injuries don't seem to be healing at all for any of the players, this season feels like a write off, and hopefully the studs coming in next year actually perform like studs instead of the last few 5 stars we've had. Ware has turned into a bit of a disappointment, hasn't really had the impact someone of his recruiting rank you would hope for, I will say he's done more that Bittle who has been a complete flop of a 5 star.

If someone touches me like that, and I know they're just doing their job, I don't immediately start yelling obscenities, making veiled threats, and looking like I'm about have a heart attack. I'm not saying he should be fired or anything, but he's an butt, and he's always has been one.

Cheering for Huskies: I Just Can't Do It
spartan2785 replied to Desert Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I don't like UW, I personally haven't had a lot of confrontations with their fans really though, so I'll hold my nose and root for the conference. I'm tired of the Pac-12 being a joke in the eyes of the nation, we need to bring up the rep to get more attention out west. I know people will say "Let's be the Clemson of the west coast!" personally though I want to see high profile games in the conference instead of beating up on a bunch of weak teams. Only way we do this is win games out of the conference and eventually have success in the playoff. It's going to be a long process, but my dream is that the LA schools fall flat on their face in the Big 10, and Oregon, Utah, UW, and maybe one of two other teams really establish themselves as top 15 teams on a consistent basis, probably a pipe dream though! -
Wish the new SDSU stadium was around 45,000 instead of 35,000, probably would make a good venue for a bowl game like the Holiday. Really would probably still be a better venue (sight lines, amenities, etc.).
