  1. The other teams have to agree to a home and home too though. You mentioned Miss. St. and Wisconsin those teams are not likely getting a ton of interest from high profile teams, we've played those teams in the past, and I would put those teams on level with the Big 12 schools we have coming up. I don't really see a difference between Miss. St. and Texas Tech, same thing for Oklahoma St. and Wisconsin. In the future we also have Michigan St. and Ohio St. scheduled, so it isn't like we don't have anything on the horizon. These home and home series are scheduled 10 years or even more in advance, it isn't like this was scheduled 4 years ago. Sure I would love to see us playing Clemson in a home and home, but when have you ever seen Clemson go on the road out west? It's especially hard since we don't have the recruiting base to attract those big names to this area, one reason why a team might want to schedule a Bay Area, Arizona, or So Cal team is to get exposure to those recruiting grounds.
  2. Not surprised in the slightest, not really worried either, he's a talent, but I don't think it will turn into anything if he remained here. We need some more versatile stretch 4s instead. What I would do for an Arslan Kazemi or a Eugene Oworuyi, we need guys like that. I'm worried that Evans and Cook will be like the past few top 15 recruits we've had, and not do much. Really need to attract the right guys in the portal.
  3. It's ridiculous, the way I look at it, it's like saying the only achievement that counts is a national title, we have a rich history in multiple sports, but don't want to celebrate it. I like the basic design of the arena, but there are soooo many things they could do to improve the experience if they wouldn't lean so much into the fake enthusiasm bits, it's like they have to micro manage every bit of the game. Does anybody go to the basketball or volleyball games in order to get on the big screen? Seriously does anybody really do that, how does that help to get people to go. I think it keeps people away, you had better attendance when the games were in a cramp, badly lit, hot, and generally uncomfortable arena because it felt authentic and real, plus the prices weren't outrageous. I get that it's a different world compared to 20 years ago, but I just don't generally feel like I'm watching a college game, I feel like I'm at a minor league venue half the time.
  4. I would like to see what Sabin would do if it was one of his stars and not some freshmen DB who we don't even know if they will play. Easy to be guy who suspends players when they aren't the ones you're relying on to win, not to mention it's also out of season.
  5. I don't mind it at all, I want him to gripe about the season, it was a bad season, the stuff about the fans is fine as well, it is embarrassing to only have that many fans, personally I think the reason for this is because games are just not as fun as they used to be. Maybe I'm just nostalgic, but I just don't find going to the game as fun as when we were in Mac Court, I get annoyed by the kiss cam, the emoji cam, the dog cam, whatever else cam they have, while blaring music from a speaker. If they had the band playing, with the cheerleaders, and the Duck I might be more enticed to actually go and see a mediocre team. I still love going when we have a great team because it's more easy to focus on that, but when you are putting out a mediocre product (even if they play hard), then I want a college environment, not a minor league type feel to the game.
  6. It's actually a great point, there is no reason why Stanford shouldn't be better in at least basketball, they had success under Montgomery, it's not as hard to find the athletes that can make it work at an academic school like Stanford. They are the program I've been most disappointed in when it comes to basketball in the Pac-12.
  7. This is exactly what I've been saying this year, Altman seems like he has gone away from the recruiting profiles that he used to have, we have never had a team with so few true shooters as this team, you can be long and athletic, have guys who can get to the hole, but without even one sniper it's hard to be successful since all the opposing team has to do is play a zone or crash in on drives to the hoop.
  8. What I hope Bittle becomes is a longer Maarty Leunen who in my opinion is one of the more overlooked players in UO basketball history, such a great player, and I do think he probably works better as a stretch 5 instead of a 4. Ware I have my doubts that he'll be coming back, I think he might transfer back home to Arkansas. From what I've heard of Evans, I think it might actually work with him being a long athletic 4 (more smooth than Ware), and Mookie coming in as a tough minded D monster at the 3. It'll be really interesting to see what the roster is like next year.
  9. Honestly I don't think this a big deal, he isn't that great a player, needs a ton of shots to get to his averages, extremely streaky, would rather just get a transfer.
  10. This game is a great representation of the entire year, can't shoot, not much heart, not much hustle, no leadership, horrible point guard play, horrible wing play, guys standing around just hoping Dante saves their butt. Please, please, please!!!! Dana go find some guys who actually have some dog in them! Find some guys who can actually hit an open shot! Find some guys who can defend a pick and roll.
  11. Pathetic defense, absolutely pathetic play, can't even defend simple pick and roll.
  12. There is no excuse to not win this game with Bona out, you have to win this game at this point.
  13. Still can't shoot, no worry about the outside shots means it's difficult to get anything inside.
  14. Yeah, the only losses I can think of against BIG competition is Wisconsin on the road way back during Harrington's junior season, Michigan St. twice on the road (both outstanding close games for the neutral), and the two bowl games against Ohio St. We've mostly owned the Big10 in football.
  15. I'm not really going to put down our performances, but there is a bit of getting teams at the right time in those games. Michigan that year was not a good team who had already lost to App St. Tennessee was way way down and had Dooley (right?) at the time. Ohio St. had a DC who couldn't make an adjustment to save his life. We've gotten a little lucky, but we do tend to travel well to the Big10. We've never gotten trounced on the road against the Big10. I think we would do fine in our games if we went to the Big10, at least better than the LA schools. I think teams would absolutely dread coming here to play us at home, I know that would be a fact as opposed to going to LA.
  16. What sort of player is Jackson Shelsted, anyone here watched him live? Just wondering what sort of point guard we have coming in. There's a lot of hype since West Linn has taken down some of the best teams in the nation. I know for myself I'm trying to reduce my expectations since I've fallen victim to overhyping freshman coming in. Obviously it took Pritchard a few years before he took off. Edit: thanks I should have included the name of the player in the title.
  17. What a weird game to have on CBS, I mean good for them, but seems like a pretty low key game to put on the schedule even before the season started. Hopefully they get the win and then a few more in the conference tourney.
  18. I coach in high school and there are many things that very frustrating to deal with in the ever changing nature of sports, one of these is the specialization of young athletes. So many of these kids lose out on skills and experiences that will make them a better athlete, better teammate, better person by playing multiple sports. From my experience basketball and soccer are the biggest culprits of this which is mostly because of the club nature of these sports. It's important to learn how to not simply be the best player on the team at all times, learn new footwork, new ways of looking at the game, working with new players, everything that goes into being a well rounded player/person.
  19. Yeah, the ad money is probably the biggest thing they are after, I don't think a model where you are charged to find out where a streaming event in would work, but if they became the number one place to check where events are being shown, then the ad money will be worth it.
  20. Kind of amazing that they could be 17-14 and still have a NET in the 20s, probably a really interesting case for the committee to rule on. Really does say a lot about the strength of the Pac-12 this year.
  21. So Graves can only win if he has a generational talent like Sabrina? That even more means that he can't coach Xs and Os! He is so passive during games, never gets into players, never seems to demand greatness, just sort of sits there and claps his hands sometimes. He has players that are good enough to win games, but he is slow to adjust game plans, doesn't seem to know how to counter lineups or schemes, he relies a lot on good outside shooting. I give a lot more leeway to Altman since he has proved at Oregon he can win with completely different teams, he has also won using different sorts of lineups. Graves' teams kind of reminds me of Ernie Kent's teams, usually had good recruits but didn't always get the most out of them unless he had fantastic floor leaders. You of course need good court leaders, but for both Ernie and Graves it seems like they need player of the year candidates at lead guard. I wouldn't fire him, but next year has to be a year where they begin to reestablish itself as a top 3 team in the league.
  22. Need to bounce back, that was an ugly series, bats went completely cold, simply can't happen like that. Really didn't like the call in the third game by Waz to not bunt with Nishida at the plate, two on, no outs, and the 2-3-4 hitters at the plate, you have your best bunter, and instead of runners at 3rd and 2nd, you end up with a 1st and 3rd situation.
  23. The conference is an absolute joke, to even have the suggestion that all games are going to be on a streaming service, or even just big games is indicative of where this conference has now landed. Nobody takes them seriously, I would rather play in any other big conference than here at this point. Join up with UW and bolt at the first opportunity, preferably the Big10, take a pay cut for the first 3-5 years if that's what it takes. I have confidence in ourselves that we can make that jump and remain a power.
  24. I've been saying this the whole year, Richardson has had basically no help from his fellow guards, Couisnard is the only one that has had a pulse offensively, and even then it's been hit and miss. All that said, Richardson should be having a better year, he becomes extremely passive for long stretches, and doesn't really lead the team. Altman needs to get some shooters in here, guys that can knock down open shots, we don't have one sniper on this team, it is amazing Dante has had the season he has with no shooters to open up the floor. Richardson as well is decent at driving to the rim, but no one respects any of our shooters. We have to do better in our evaluation of guards/wings, we've basically struck out the last two years in finding impact wings. Thought I would also add this, Charles I really do appreciate you trying to remain optimistic, you've tried to look at things in a glass half full kind of way, and sometimes I struggle to see that, so as much as I sort of roll my eyes when I see these types of posts, I think it's important to have them!
  25. I think we can say for sure now, that unless they go on a magical run through the Pac-12 Tournament, this team is never "getting there". Another bad loss that really is inexcusable for a team desperately trying to remain in the bubble picture. It's the same story as always, bad shooting, Richardson going AWOL, and Dante doing everything he could to win and not getting the help he deserves, it's damn shame the best center Oregon has had for the past 30 years is getting essentially no help from his guards. Really hope Altman can rebound next year with different players, he's going to need it with Dante leaving.
