  1. Yeah, that's what I've thought is going on, it's frustrating since I think Altman is still able to coach with the best of them, but I think he's been handcuffed by the lack of investment. Kind of feels like after last year, Dana said "screw it, I'll try it another way" by getting these international players instead of guys like Angel or Bamba. It haven't worked out though. It's a shame I love college basketball, and I love a packed arena more than a football stadium when it's a primetime matchup.
  2. No idea whether I like this. Basically seems like everyone is being given a 5th year. If a player or team wanted to they could easily find 3 games for a player to sit out in order to preserve the redshirt. This seems especially unfair when you think about how other sports don't have this, so on top of all the things that football players get compared to other "student" athletes they also get another year of eligibility.
  3. I think IU wins by 21 or so. I hope I'm wrong, it's incredibly petty of me to want Indiana to come up short, but I really hate the idea of them winning a championship before us.
  4. It is entirely roster construction. If you go through each addition to the team this year you'll see a very unproven player who is also a weird fit for the team. Basically struck out on every player that was brought in, combine this with Shelstad being injured, Evans suffering from Richardson-itis, Bittle being banged up constantly, and Phillips not developing, and you get the losing season it looks like this will produce. I will always say it's possible that a light gets switched, but it seems a long way away at this point, and I have to wonder about the mood in the team, seems like it is snowballing into a non competitive team. I do think that Dana has to take a look at his staff, it's a good point to wonder if this part of the recruiting struggles with transfers. It's weird since Oregon had such success with transfers until the last couple years. Dana can bounce back, everyone was wondering if Graves was done after a couple bad years, but he's rebounding into looking like he's got the program back on track!
  5. Yes, it can certainly work out. It's more of a preference thing. He's just not my type of QB that I prefer. I like QBs that are mobile, I like guys that are more vocal leaders. I'm sure I'm also still being influenced by the below par play in the last two games. Moore has the tools to be "that" guy. I also think it is very likely that we are a better football team with him at the helm than any of the options currently on the team.
  6. I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't think I could really be less enthusiastic for the returning of a projected 1st rounder at QB than I am about Dante Moore. I think he has a ton of tools, but I just don't know if this the guy that can lead a team to a championship, mightily struggled against every tough defense that he faced, and while there are mitigating circumstances (injuries, play of the O-line, etc.) I just don't know if he has "it". I'm probably wrong, he will have a very good season, but until I see him dominate a great defense then I'll be skeptical that he can do it.
  7. I seriously doubt Smith Jr. will wait 2-3 years for his chance. I know this is just how it goes, but I don't see him waiting around 2-3 years to get his shot. He might beat out Raiola over the course of next year, but it will be a tough go considering the experience that Raiola has. Personally, I hope this is what happens.
  8. I honestly have no idea if Altman is going to rebound next year. I think he needs a complete reset in the program, not a single player other than Evans would I bring back, not a single one. This has been the worst season of basketball in a loooooooonnnnggggg time, I honestly think the team is worse than some of Kent's worst teams. He has to recruit some of the bigger names in the transfer portal, we have not been able to get a single player in the last few years that would be considered a top 25 or 30 player in the portal. He has to get more guys like Figueroa, Moser, or Omoruyi. More proven guys from bigger programs. It might be that he just doesn't have much in the way of NIL to compete. I guess we have a good freshman coming in next year in Tahj Ariza...but then you remember that Altman hasn't had the best luck with high profile freshman playing that well in their first year. Looking forward to Baseball/Softball, we should be able to do well in both sports.
  9. Pretty sure this confirms that Sediq is going to the NFL, not that I was thinking there was much chance at him returning, but with Olesh coming in, Harrison also coming in.
  10. I really don't know what to make of this, I don't like getting another QB who can't move around and extend plays. This is more of a personal preference, but I like athletic QBs who can make plays when things break down. If you look at our history we usually do our best when we have a dynamic QB who can freelance when things break down. Moore really struggled to do this against the elite defenses, if he had a bit of escapability then he might have been able to produce a bit more offense. You are putting a lot on your O-line if you don't have a QB who can at least step up in the pocket. Moore strikes me as a someone who can do this when things are going well, but is very fragile once he takes the first hit. If I had to pick between two I would rather have Leavitt just watching the two of them play. I obviously don't know the finer details about the two, but I know that just watching the two of them play, Leavitt is the one that makes me get out of my seat more often. Guess it's just wait and see at the point.
  11. I think we can include the Fiesta bowl as well as a west coast bowl. So we have two which is probably what we should have considering the amount of teams out here compared to rest of the country. The problem is that the Rose Bowl is a much more attractive bowl compared to the Peach, Cotton, or the Orange bowl in my opinion. Better city to visit, more historical prestige, better venue in terms of pre-game. I think playing historical blue-bloods is also more attractive to the common fan. For instance if we were playing a historical team that we hadn't played before I think the game would have attracted more fans even if it was thought we would most likely lose. Our fans have been asked to pay a lot of money compared to others over the years considering the distance of both bowl games and conference championship games. In the end though the solution is to have games at college sites until the semi-finals. It only makes sense.
  12. I think a lot of people were not convinced we would win, it's a long trip to Atlanta, and those that have the means to go were hoping to save money in anticipation of going to Miami the next week. Indiana is doing this for the first time with a much bigger alumni base which is much closer to Atlanta. I don't think Oregon will travel well to these games out East, it's a lot to ask families who have taken these trips in the past.
  13. Well....we chocked again in a big game, kind of beginning to be a theme for Lanning in these situations, beaten twice by UW, embarrassed by tOSU last year, embarrassed by Indiana this year. We deserve all the ridicule for not having a championship, we always fall short, we always aren't ready for the big game. No confidence in Mehringer next year since Moore is the same guy he was at the start of the year. It's his job to get him ready and he's failed miserably. Awful that they just gave him the job without seeing who they could get outside of the program.
  14. I will say that I felt a lot more nervous last year, and the other years we were in playoff, I think it's because I don't think we will win, all the previous disappointments have helped me to just expect the worst this year, I'm already bracing for the loss. I guess it's a coping mechanism at this point.
  15. This is what I can't get over, it's my nightmare, either Cristobal wins one before us, or Indiana just waltzes in like it's nothing and wins one on their first actual go. IT CAN NOT HAPPEN, we deserve this, we as a school, program, fanbase deserve this so much more than anyone else in the country when it comes to heartbreak. Nobody has had as many close calls as us during this century without winning a championship. I know I'm putting this on myself, I've tried to just shrug it off, but I can't get over the idea. The world is a tough place, you don't get what you deserve most of the time, but my gosh we deserve at least one.
  16. For this Mariners fan growing up in the 90s it was sweet Lou Piniella. One thing I love about baseball are the blowups by the managers, it isn't something that should actually be celebrated since it's awful behavior letting an adult act like a 3 year old having a tantrum, but all the great ejections are legendary, from kicking caps, drawing lines on the dirt, to literally stealing first base like Lloyd McClendon did. For what the article was about, it is definitely something to consider, Indiana has been one of the least penalized teams, but if they start pushing off or hitting the QB late, it's something that Lanning should be in the ear of the officials about.
  17. This has really gotten me worked up, part of it is the greed by the player, another is the underhanded nature of the program contacting Williams knowing that he has signed a contract, the fact that there are no rules at all against this sort of behavior, this then relates to the stupidity that is involved with the schedule of the playoffs and the portal. It is just so emblematic of all the problems with college sports right now. I really hope that Oregon isn't the program that enticed Williams (I don't think we are). It would make me lose a lot of respect for Lanning. No rules, everyone out for themselves, no loyalty, lying to the fans about how you love them and loved their support, "I have to do what is best for myself," no, you are just selfish and don't care one lick about anyone else but yourself, that goes for coaches as well that do this sort of baloney. All of this has trickled down to youth sports where you have adults manipulating leagues so that you get all the best kids on the same team, club sports are awful, high schools where you have kids transferring 4 times in 4 years. All of this is such a bad example of how we should live our lives as a community. I always thought that European sports were missing out on how great high school and college sports could be, but maybe they have it right by having high level youth sports operated by professional clubs, though knowing quite a bit about European football they have their own set of problems with regards to youth and young players. Depressing.
  18. No, I agree with UW, you signed a contract? Welcome to the real world where you have to honor a contract or you have to pay compensation for breaking said contract. You don't get to sign and then sign with another team after they give you a better deal, that isn't how sports works. If UW and others don't hold players to contracts then the contract isn't really a contract.
  19. I think Hill and Whittington are good backs but neither of them bring the physicality that Davison does, it's a huge loss. We're also one injury away now from essentially having one RB available. Really hope Limar will stay since he might fit into being the fullback in the 2-1 personnel packages
  20. Always happens to us, something has to happen to ruin chances. Huge loss since Davison was the RB having the most success against Indiana last time. It also cripples our ability to use the 2 RB formations we've using to great affect. It's always us, Indiana deals with one injury the entire year while we have to deal with injury after injury.
  21. I just want some Offensive PI calls, Indiana in their game against us was pushing off on those 8-12 yard out patterns all game long, hard to defend when the receiver is blatantly extending their arms in order to get open.
  22. I'm not going to say it's impossible for that to have happened in the 1st quarter, but it seems highly unlikely that the medical staff would allow a player to play with a broken collarbone.
  23. I don't think it says anything about Dante, Novosad has had 3 years, if the coaches were telling him that he would need to fight for his job or that they intend to take a transfer than I'm pretty sure he would be transferring to somewhere where he has more assurance that he's going to play. It's been pretty obvious that this has been his plan all along.
  24. I'm very very surprised by this, he's had two years as a starter, he's one of the top 3 centers in the country, he has to believe he would get drafted at least in day 2 of the draft. He must have a pretty good deal in NIL. Really shows that you have no idea who will return nowadays.
  25. The offense has nothing to be disappointed about from Saturday, the defense should be ashamed about their performance, it was putrid in the second half, and the first half wasn't as good as the score would say. What this means for the Orange Bowl, probably not a whole lot. The defense has been good for most of the year, but it is concerning that they haven't shut down a good offense yet this season. It's a defense that has feasted on bad offenses, Indiana and USC were able to accomplish a lot, I don't think TT is as good as these offenses though. I still think we should win, but we have to be better on defense, we have to get more pressure, the run defense has to stiffen up, we have to better in every facet of the defense if we want to win the lot. I don't think we'll do it since we haven't been able to shut down a good offense yet, the offense is going to have to make up for it.
