Men's Basketball: Ducks Get a Shooter in the Transfer Portal
spartan2785 replied to 30Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I don't want to be that guy, but this feels very similar to when they got Ra'heim Moss, Estrada, Zarzuela, the list goes on. A scorer who shot 36% from 3 and 42% overall in a lower level league, does not sound like an impact player at all. I could be wrong, but I'm not exactly overwhelmed with confidence this is the guy to replace Bamba or Key. -
Honestly surprised, felt like with Evans being a former 5 star, not being a starter most of the time, he would have gone to a place where he would be featured more. I'm happy to have him back, I like him as a player. He has a lot to work on though, his jumper, his ball handling, his playmaking. I think he's a good rebounder for his size, but he needs to become more skilled and stronger, hard thing to do.
-
Right move, he might as well go ahead go through the process some, he might get an indication about where might go in the draft, then he can sit down and make a decision. I think it's 50-50 that he come back. There isn't much chance that he move up considerably next year as opposed to this year, but he might also have more clarity on his NIL deal at Oregon. In the end sometimes guys have just had enough of the college life and want to go on to next phase in their life, you just never know.

Being the Friday guy is significant, it means going best against best. Since the Ducks are almost certainly the class of the B1G, this would be the right move, occasionally you might see a team deliberately withhold their ace in order to try to maximize wins, but the Ducks should be shooting for sweeps instead of 2 out of 3s. I don't think it should be too much of a psychological impact on Grinsell, it's not like he's been amazing in his career, he should understand the situation. His stuff is more like a #2 or even a #3 really on a good team.

Ruh-Roh! Huskies Lose to D3 Team at Home?
spartan2785 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Yeah, it's fine, I'm just not that surprised is all I meant. When it came to our losses, I wasn't concerned really. Now for UW I would be a little concerned since they're 9-13, they've probably played a tougher schedule than us, but 9-13 is 9-13, that won't cut it for a team that really should be better. The state of Washington has a lot of good talent, but they can't seem to get it going up there compared to UO and OSU. It's been a bit baffling to me since I would say Washington has more talent overall in the state. They should be better as a program. -

Baseball is one of those games where anyone can beat anyone. There are a lot of NWAAC teams that could compete occasionally with D1 programs, Lewis and Clark State College in Lewiston which is a NAIA school has had some teams that definitely could have taken a series against a Pac-12 team if they played at their best. All you need is to have your pitcher have a day where they locate, and the hitters have an off-day at the plate. -
Mens Basketball a No. 5 Seed in Seattle...
spartan2785 replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
ACC must be horrendous, I know that UNC took care of business, but a team that only lost twice in the league play got beat decisively and the 3rd place team is now getting boat raced by McNeese. -

12-5 is always difficult to predict, seems like there are as many upsets as there are blowouts. -

Looks like we lucked out for all those who still have to work during the day, 7:10 on Friday, perfect time for me, I always like being the late game during the tournament. -

Doubt it will be before noon since it's on the west coast, we'll probably be in the afternoon slot. -
Is Nate Bittle the Best Ducks Center of All Time?
spartan2785 replied to Signoramous's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
He isn't even the best center from the past two years I think personally, I think Dante was better. He was truly dominant last year. Just look how he played against Kalkbrenner from Creighton. I love Bittle this season, but I'll take Dante between the two. -
One thing that popped into my head today was imagining where this team would be if the NCAA had done the logical and right thing and given Dante another year. This team would be so much different. We would have dominated the boards today with Bittle and Dante serving as twin towers, depressing to think about since it made no sense whatsoever to deny Dante when others who had the exact same amount of games missed were given extra years. I think Dana is getting a ton out of this team, can't really see them doing any better than they are right now. He's severely limited by the height in the backcourt, and the lack of shooter at the 3. He's coached his butt off this year (like always).
-
Felt bad for Bittle, played really hard and was consistently let down by his teammates, no shooting, only Evans as another rebounder, just a horrible performance from the guards, but they are limited physically. There are better matchups for us out there among the more elite teams, but this game sort of shows how our upside just isn't there. If Bamba had a shooting season like he had every other season he played we might have that upside to compete, but since he's a zero this season when it comes to outside shooting it really limits us on offense.
-
Great start, 44-43, Bittle taking over, Bamba with a few good plays, Angel with a nice steal, good response after the less than ideal end to the 1st half!
-
Very true, very tough to compete against the elite with 6'1 and 6'2 unless you have a massive frontline.
-
Getting exposed, this what I was worried about, Michigan St. killing us on the boards, we don't have the offensive chops against an actual good team....at least in this half.
-
ridiculous officiating, any time sparty bumps us no foul, any time we touch State whistle. Officials sure seem to favor the old guard.
-
Personally I've had a difficult read on the B1G, there aren't any teams that would be considered for a top 2 seed, how much of this is manipulation from ESPN over claiming that the SEC is the greatest basketball conference ever is a matter of debate. On one hand Oregon is the only team to really impress during its non-con schedule, then again Oregon lost some bad games against mid competition in the conference. I'm hopeful we'll continue this run.
-
I want to believe you, I really do, I just sort of wonder how good Indiana actually is. Our stretch of wins only really contains one win that I would consider against a "good" team that would be Wisconsin, and even in that game we sort of got lucky with a deep deep 3 to tie it, we certainly played well in that second half and OT though! Just depends on matchups, I really don't want to be in Auburn or Duke's bracket, I think both those teams aren't good matchups for us. Next game will say a lot of about where the Ducks are now after that tough 5 game losing streak.
-
This was basically the team I thought we would be coming into the league play. Angel and Bamba acting as the third and fourth scorers who provide another option when Bittle and Shelstad are cold or are just getting doubled. We're playing better on defense, we're rebounding better, I don't think we played particularly well but Indiana went cold down the stretch. I really wish Dana would draw up better positions late in the game when we're up. I'm not totally against running down the clock, but we never seem to get great looks, typically we just throw something up at the shot clock buzzer, seems to be his strategy, makes me nervous. Michigan St. will be a great game for us, they played a great game against us last time, they just couldn't miss in the second half and we crumbled under their great crowd. I of course want a win, but I'll be quite content if we lose in a down the wire game. We really need to play a team that is the caliber of Sparty. It would be really encouraging if Angel and Bamba have back to back efficient games.
