Charles Fischer Administrator No. 1 Share Posted May 3 My FishDuck Friends....I am just a terrible sport. So bad that I don't even feel guilty for the following quotes from one of the biggest USC forums. The only thing greater than the joy of Our Beloved Ducks winning these recruiting battles, is seeing the reaction of Trojan fans who believe they were entitled to these players both schools were pursuing. I'm a sicko, as I can't get enough of this after all the years growing up with their disdain in my face...and there was nothing we could do about it. I need to go get a candy bar, something sweet to go with all this salty... I won't do this all the time, but Derrick Harmon is a recruit they really wanted and needed. And I may have added my commentary in green bold... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- "Is the fact that Lan Danning thinks he's out recruiting everyone and taking credit for it. He's a freaking blowhard that gets credit for being a great recruiter only because he's got Nike money behind him. It also frustrating that with all the billion dollar alumni USC has, none of them are stepping up the way Phil Knight does for Oregon." "I've always made fun of their envy for SC, but let's face it. Who's laughing now?!" Couldn't have written it better... "Year 3 Lanning looking much better than year 3 Riley. Rest is cope." "Another L with the kick to the nuts. Plain and simple." "They care more than we do at the moment unfortunately." "So now they have both Caldwell and Harmon in the middle? That might compare to Texas two DTs last year." "Damn, but to those that think just throwing whatever money recruits want. It’s obvious Oregon is all in on this year, for USC--they’re playing the longer game." "Big difference of being a $2B billionaire vs a $40B billionaire." Wait...according to this 2021 article from Forbes, USC has 15 billionaire alumni worth a total of $58.5B. I'm not sure how accurate that is in 2024. Phil Knight alone is at around $40B. Whoops! There go the excuses! "It's not Nike the company paying these guys, it's Phil Knight donating to Oregon's collective and former Nike execs running the whole thing. Actual experienced business people. Meanwhile, our NIL is run by football guys that can't even figure out how to consistently pay the players on time." "Oregon has an insurmountable advantage in both $$ and infrastructure, we will continue to lose these battles until revenue sharing happens. Even then, they'll still probably have their collective going to supplement it." "Oregon's NIL is the greatest in the whole country. This is the only thing I’ll ever be envious of with them. Wow. I’m glad we don’t play them this year." "Writing was on the wall when their NT jumped in the portal a few days ago." "Absolute disaster. Oregon didn't even need him and secured his pledge they have 4-5 other starting caliber DTs. We legit have one. I can just about guarantee our DL is going to get rolled over this year with the complete lack of talent. Team is going to go 7-5 against the insane schedule then Justus Terry and the other top DL commits will flip or head elsewhere creating the same problem next year." "Chain of events going to be set off by this and it is really going to hurt. Getting embarrassing at this point that USC CANNOT BEAT OREGON for a single recruit H2H, unless it is a lowly 3 star they recruit over." "Oregon’s 3rd guy on the depth chart would probably start day 1 for us. Lol,sad." Did you EVER think you would read that from a USC fan? "I used to think the CLR was playing chess in the recruiting game, but I’m pretty convinced at this point that we are the ones playing checkers." "Man lol Douche Lanning did his team dirty too by having this announced after the portal closed. Cut throat." "Got Wyatt and Harmon to commit back-2-back just to mock SC...God I hate those MorherFers Ducks." Pretty salty tears....I LOVE IT! "So we "feel like" having a gaping hole in the DL as we enter the conference with consistently stout OLs and run games? That makes a ton of sense." Yep! Good thing I never said I was noble... 2 3 1 2 2 1 Mr. FishDuck

And thanks as well for the money saved by all OBD fans as we get to live rent free in those sunny SoCal heads. "Plenty of room to stretch out in here!" Getting Harmon while keeping him away from U$C is absolutely priceless. 1

Mudslide No. 7 Share Posted May 3 Well, here's a little reminder for our friends in good ol' South L.A. The U$C school's motto is (tadaaa): Palmam qui meruit ferat! And for those of them who haven't taken Latin (what do they take at U$C?), this means (another tadaa): "Let whoever earns the palm bear it!" I guess they must be down there bearing their palms right now. 2

And they are late to this game of realization that USC is not Oregon's equal. This article I wrote was ages ago back when Cristobal was still Oregon's head coach and I think Lanning has only pressed the advantage that was created by those who came before him. USC Football Is NOT Oregon’s Equal | FishDuck FISHDUCK.COM Oregon and USC seem primed to be the top two schools in the Pac-12. Both have top ten recruiting classes... Sure NIL helps but the reality is that USC should have way more cash for this if they had alumni who cared. And I think the reality there is that the USC alumni believe they are entitled to the recruiting wins and having an eternally natty ready roster. And that's not the reality. USC fans are just as entitled as ever and that could be an advantage for us.

It isn’t the only factor, though. This quote has me confused and I read it like 15 times. "It’s clear that Harmon thought long and hard about his decision. Some might speculate that Oregon increased the value of the bag at the last moment, and that USC wasn’t willing to pay as much. Maybe that’s true, but we don’t know that. We can say that Harmon weighed his choice and didn’t make it quickly or easily. This obviously means Eric Henderson and USC offered something compelling, something worth considering. NFL-level development mattered in all of this. It might simply not have been the first — or only — factor." In particular the last sentence.... Are they saying that USC was going to provide better NFL development than Oregon? Because of that's what they're saying than that is some major arrogance. Especially when you look at the record of Riley and his defenses. And Riley still has his past defenses hanging around his coaching reputation even though he vowed to make defense come first. He hasn't shown he has done that yet. Meanwhile, Lanning is has shown he is a great defensive mind and has the track record. 1 1
GeotechDuck No. 16 Share Posted May 4 Oregon is the better program. It is not close and has been that way for a long time. USC has only beaten Oregon ONE time in the last 12 years. USC only has ONE conference championship since 2008. Oregon has 6, Stanford has 3, Washington has 3, and Utah has 2. The best part is that USC fans are so delusional, that they really believe that Riley, (who is 0-3 in playoff games, 1-6 in NY6 games, and 0-3 in the post season with a Heisman QB starter and blue chip rosters) is somehow going to bring USC back to the Pete Carroll days. 1

JabbaNoBargain No. 18 Share Posted May 5 (edited) Because living in LA means better NFL development? No idea what the logic is, it’s not 1972. "Great Move SC Don't Pay This Cat Anything, Way Too Much , For A One Season Rental , Let Him Go Elsewhere" "I think usc is in a much better spot than last year. People are forgetting USC was not even a top 100 defense last year and they played a lot of 275lb interor D-linemen. Only Bear and Barrs were 300ish and up. Also i think Lucas can play DT if they want him to. He was in the 290s last spring before coaches had him cut to 260ish" "Ben Roberts is available in the transfer portal. JabbaNoBargain No. 26 Share Posted May 5 (edited) They actually have 9-10 games on the schedule that wouldn’t shock me if they lost any one of them. I’m by no means saying I think they’re going 2-10, but I could easily see (maybe even predict) them losing half of those games. Tough conference schedule with a handful of under the radar, Utah style schemes designed to kill a bad D front. Throw in LSU and ND for non-con as well, and I have a hard time seeing them doing better than 8-4. Edited May 5 by JabbaNoBargain 1

Jon Joseph Moderator No. 29 Share Posted May 5 With Penn State, Nebraska, and Wisconsin in LA and Minnesota, Maryland, UCLA, and UW, in addition to Michigan on the road, I think SC has a shot at finishing 9-3 or perhaps, 10-2. No Ohio State and no Oregon on the schedule and I think Lynn will make a difference as the DC. The skill player speed advantage SC had over Louisville in the Holiday Bowl will be there in the B1G except for Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, and Michigan. I also think that SC has a shot to defeat Notre Dame in LA. SC has a Blue Chip roster and the majority of B1G teams do not.

Opening with LSU first and foremost, is a potential recipe for disaster with a new QB going against a good SEC team with lots of dudes. If they get shoved around, they follow up with Utah State, @Michigan, and Wisconsin. I think if LSU does shove them around they have a recipe for a 1-3 start. Let’s just say I question their resiliency if they start with a loss. Totally agree f they’re good enough to beat LSU then all will be well. This is why Brian Kelly paid $2.5M for the Mizzou DC to move to Baton Rouge. The SC D looked to be improved, how could it be worse, in the Spring game? LSU's D still looked lost. I think the opener in Vegas could go either way. It will be interesting to see which school has the greater number of fans in attendance.

And just because a HC hires coordinators well doesn't mean the on field product changes. Cristobal hired some great coaches on paper but they never seemed to live up to their pedigrees. Moorehead's offense should have been high flying and high scoring and it was neither. DeRuyter has a track record to fielding solid defenses and with the Ducks his defense was average. So we'll have to wait and see on if Riley actually follows through. Hopefully he doesn't.... It's more fun that way. 1

LR has always been about offense and has never appeared interested about anything else, based on historical defensive stats on his teams it's obvious he never properly supported his DCs or cared to be involved on that side of the ball.
