Pretty sure Lanning is feeling the same way. Was it just me or did it feel like the sideline was just dead this evening as well as the on-field product. Oregon didn’t come ready to play. Terrible offensive line play, penalties and our offense couldn’t capitalize in the red zone. The defense was good with the exception of two drives. PittDuck No. 7 Share Posted September 1 We dodged that bullet! It wasn’t pretty, but it as a win. Barely. DL needs to take these kids to the Dr. this week, and get some issues fixed fast! After this game, I am worried about BSU and OSU, and I don’t even want to think about October 12vs tOSU.
TerryM9 No. 8 Share Posted September 1 The game speaks for itself, I honestly thought that the big 10 network coverage was pretty bad. Too many strange camera angles, and it seemed like they just missed a lot of plays. The announcers weren't bad but I found all the different camera angles really annoying. Plus a few plays were missed conpletely 2 1

Sandy Rocks No. 10 Share Posted September 1 I streamed the game and the signal was good the entire game. It was far superior to the Pac-12 Network. When I watched that, I often lost the signal or the picture blurred with motion. I was also disappointed in this game. I agree that the team didn't seem to have a lot of energy. The defense played well and provided the only exciting parts of the game. I hope they can improve quickly or it's going to be a long season.
Mudslide No. 11 Share Posted September 1 I thought Gabriel missed a lot of opportunities and there were no downfield completions. I'm not too excited about his reading the defense or finding open receivers. There were quite a few. Work needs to be done there. And golly gee, let's put Mr. FishDuck back on the O-line. So many penalties and missed blocks tonight.

So many penalties and missed blocks tonight. I was very impressed with Gabriel’s accuracy and composure. I think the lack of downfield completions was largely due to protection issues. The offensive line did not show up tonight…. for Gabriel, or for our running backs. Gabriel was so rushed that be often zeroed in on just one receiver, and Idaho likely picked up on that. He just didn’t have enough time to survey the field. Evan Stewart is regarded as a deep threat. I don’t recall him even being targeted. 1
2002duck No. 14 Share Posted September 1 I am a bit frustrated that Dillon Gabriel couldn't at least draw some PI flags. I hope they practice that next week. The dude's got to throw darts down the field if we are going to rack up points. He had plenty of time in the pocket on passing plays. Also, is he hurt? Why didn't he run for first downs when available. He's wearing #8, so act the part, ha. I still think we've got a chance to win the Big 10, I just don't think we will deserve to necessarily. That could change if the OL somehow shows up. No idea about DG. He could win me over if he plays like a real QB next week. I don't care what his numbers say. If he's throwing short passes and not a run threat then it's fool's gold. To think that many people thought Bo Nix was too short, couldn't throw a long ball very well, and just dumped the ball. Well...here's what that actually looks like. Good thing we have Dante Moore and Novosad! Go Ducks.

Even with 380 yards passing, Gabriel’s incompletions were in critical 3rd downs. One thing is for certain, he doesn’t have the pocket presence of BO! Several times on 3rd down he should have tucked the ball and picked up the 5-6 yards for the first down.
Gotcha No. 16 Share Posted September 1 There were several passes that were behind the receiver. I saw Evan Stewart targeted at least twice, on one pass, that was broken up, I wasn't sure why he didn't have at least two steps on the DB
Mudslide No. 17 Share Posted September 1 I just hope our boys are ready for BSU and their offense. They just juked their way to almost 400 yards rushing and laid a solid 56 on Georgia Southern. The good news is that they also gave up 45.

I'm still not happy with the rules change bait and switch of a running clock in 2023 "to shorten game times for fans" then more commercials and 2 minutes warnings in 2024 for longer game times than before. B1G Network loves the adds.

He was white on rice with Stewart most of the game, who supposedly has elite speed. I keep hearing how Stewart's best ability is on contested catches, although he has been touted for his elite running ability. Well which is it? If you are an elite route runner you won't need to make very many contested catches except at the boundary. My conclusion is that Stewart is likely not an elite route runner capable of consistently getting separation like Tez. And something I saw a lot of this weekend is complete capitulation by referees across the country in not calling "bang-bang" pi, where the DB clearly and completely interferes at the last nano second when the ball is a foot or two away from arriving. It's defacto legal PI cause refs won't call it anymore. As a former WR and DB I think it's a cop out by refs just like them concluding the ground can make you drop a pass even though it can't make you fumble. Dave23 No. 21 Share Posted September 1 Do remember that Dillon Gabriel hit his hand on a defenders helmet early in the game, this could definitely affect his throwing hand and could be part of the reason he didn't throw deep. The sky is not falling and Idaho is a better team than most people are giving them credit for. This game reminds me of Fresno State game in 21 that was way to close and everyone was freaking out. The next game we beat the Buckeyes. 1
MicroBurst61 No. 22 Share Posted September 1 Poison! Seems to me some were drinkin in the "hype", did not bring their "A" game 'cause....Idaho. BIG Hats off to Vandals who were half step faster and finished with...intent. Caught the Ducks sleeping on em at home. Need "reader leaders" on "D" to recognize and call out adjustments for unconventional plays. The "Dr's Visit" will be quite interesting this week and hopefully has the antidote to the poison. In November NO ONE will remember, talk about, or even care how this game went down if OBD is in the driver's seat for the B1G championship. Game next week with BoiseSt coming in, just got a whole lot more interesting. Especially with their 3-0 record against us and a "bowling ball" of a running back who went for a buck-fifty and several TD'S yesterday. Heal Quickly Ducksters!!
JabbaNoBargain No. 23 Share Posted September 1 (edited) O-Line A walk-on starting at center is not a positive, that’s lipstick on a pig imo. I think the coaches knew the line is an issue and developed a game plan that utilized getting the ball out of the QBs hand in under 2 seconds. That being said, we’re not doomed, we’ll know all we need to know after next week. If the offense looks more like Oregon, all will be well. If it’s more of the same we in trouble. I saw Stewart wide open on several occasions and DG did/could not find him, instead opting for the short receiver or safety valve. I blame part of that on the OL. bbmichaels No. 26 Share Posted September 1 Dale Bliss at Athlon noted that the Ducks looked sluggish yesterday, and had this thought: “Duck fans love Dan Lanning for his passion, conviction and intensity. He's driven and 100% real. But a game like this should inspire some self-evaluation: The Ducks came out of camp banged-up and looking tired. Did he push them too hard?” Hearing player quotes about it being the toughest camp they had experienced made me excited, but might there be some truth to this…?
