CjAllen180 No. 2 Share Posted November 2 That's probably the best front seven we'll see all year. We held up very well considering. Praying for a speedy recovery for Tez Johnson and Marcus Harper. We gotta improve in the 3rd quarter though! All in all, a good road win in a hostile place. 2

30Duck Moderator No. 4 Share Posted November 2 (edited) Ducks lost their most explosive offensive player in the first minutes, still looking for "opportunities" to score in the 3rd quarter, and beat Michigan, covering the spread, for you, KLATT. Looked a whole lot better than tOSU and Penn State. Edited November 2 by 30Duck

EastBayDuckDad Moderator No. 6 Share Posted November 2 Seeing Tez and Marcus go down is tough. No idea about Harper, but Tez looked like he had a significant right shoulder or clavicle injury. Kawika Rogers, normally an OT, came in for Harper at RG and played pretty well. Holden had a superb game Lowe took up the slack for Tez, and DG did what he does. Great to have Burch and TFerg back and get significant minutes. Yes this performance had it's hiccups, and the 3rd qtr offensive disappearing act is a mystery, but OBD just beat Michigan handily, by 21 pts, in the Big House (which I hear is big!). Give Michigan credit, that is a very stout D-line, that Warren kid played well (no picks) and Loveland is a future NFL TE. The Ducks did what #1 teams do. They defeated a good team on the road and in front of a record crowd of over 110K. I'm not going to spend too much time hand wringing and pearl clutching over a slightly flawed but pretty good win. 1 1 4

30Duck Moderator No. 10 Share Posted November 3 It didn't cost Michigan the game, but Moore's decision to challenge the ruling on the catch that didn't survive the ground was, puzzling. David Marsh No. 12 Share Posted November 3 Nice thing is that even if that Stewart touchdown didn't count and say we take a field goal. We'd still cover the spread. I'm getting really annoyed with our third quarter play though. 1 2

Massduck No. 15 Share Posted November 3 I am good with 9-0 but just puzzled at the lack of offensive output in the third quarter and second half in general. Is it complacency or personnel?
Solar No. 16 Share Posted November 3 It's definitely giving me Mario Cristobal vibes that we build up a big lead in the first half, then go into a shell waiting for the game to end. I can't figure out what it is though. Are we changing, or are the other team's adjustments really working?
AnotherOD No. 17 Share Posted November 3 Nothing on Tez, but looks like good news on Harper. Regarding an update, Lanning mentioned that Harper told him he'd be "fine" postgame. "He told me in the locker room that he's going to be fine," said Lanning. "We want to make sure we get him assessed and take a look at that. But I don't have an update right now." Charles Fischer Author Administrator No. 18 Share Posted November 3 We have NO DEPTH on the offensive line. If any of the starters get hurt....we are in trouble. What I'm hoping for is that they have purposely holding back Bedford to redshirt for next year. So he's played in one game, sat out the last couple, and can play in the final three games of the season AND the Conference Championship and the Playoffs. The backup we had in there got easily over-powered, and beaten in pass protection. Just not any experience yet... 1 1 Mr. FishDuck

I think Rodgers has Maryland to get some good reps in. I saw somewhere that medical redshirts can only be given if the player doesn't finish the season. I think Bedford has already used his redshirt before coming to Oregon. If that's the case and he's healthy enough to play then the staff has a hard decision to make for him. All I know is we have a week with a home game against an opponent that doesn't have an elite defensive line to figure some things out. I will say this... Sure Rodgers got beat a few times but the offensive line on the whole looked far better than it did against Idaho and Boise State. They still ran the ball effectively enough on that last drive to score a touchdown and burn out the clock.

Rogers may have been beat a few times in pass pro but he blocked well during the 4th qtr in the run game. He didn't generate any false starts and while he may have allowed some pressures, he didn't get DG dumped on his arse by Graham or Grant. I think he is listed on the depth chart as Cornelius' back up at RT. Sliding him in at RG against the best DTs in the country was bound to have a few hiccups. The interior OL was already predicted to be an issue against Michigan, and it's not like Harper had played pristine football to that point in the game. Terry, Stein and DL obviously thought Rogers was the best option. It's why those guys cross train across the entire line. Based on the initial reports it looks like Harper won't be down for long, a good thing since depth is a big issue as long as Bedford is out. The Maryland game will be a good testing ground for Rogers and IOL cohesion if he needs to fill that role for a week or two. 1

Rein in, run the clock, and get ready for game 7 in the 8-game grind and what will hopefully be a game in Atlanta on 1/20/25. Danno is not doing this in the blind. He consulted with NFL coaches about how best to handle a 16 or 17-game season.
JabbaNoBargain No. 22 Share Posted November 3 Definitely feels like this to me, but I still agree with the sentiment of playing the same way for that first possession when we start the 3rd with the ball. OBD are all free-flowing in Q2, do that one more time and put it away. If the other team starts with the ball in Q3 and OBD gets the stop, then by all means proceed with strangling the clock. PS - isn’t it great to be nit-picking after a 21 point win at the big house? On 11/3/2024 at 8:03 AM, Jon Joseph said: 9-0 but hopefully, 7 or 8 more games to go. It seems like Stein stops using play action and starts to use the running game to run clock. It actually took a broken play to generate an explosive pass play in the second half. Seems to me Stein does close down the playbook. We could have easily scored forty on all of our opponents this year. And I attribute that to Stein "folding his cards" because we all know nobody is scoring 28 on OBD (maybe even Ohio State unless Chip is also holding his group of explosive plays for later in the season). Hence, there is no need to demonstrate how dominant we can be-or show what else we can do to teams. Just my take. 1 1

noDucknewby No. 25 Share Posted November 3 I understand the strategy when blowing out inferior teams--dumb down the offense, milk the clock and rest the starters whenever possible. The problem I see is that it seems to be leading to a third quarter letdown regardless of the scenario. We score a TD on our first drive against Michigan and that game is essentially over, but we let them hang around and their QB starts to get in a rhythm. Of course a third quarter TD in the Ohio State game would have been even bigger. That said, it's clearly become a point of emphasis for DL and when he attacks a problem like that it usually gets solved (see OL turnaround).

candyduck No. 27 Share Posted November 3 Of the last three tds opponents have scored. One by an ill advised penalty that kept Illinois on the field, another by a short field! Three games, 27 points I believe plus the hurt they are putting on players...wow!
