Oh Goody! We Could Play Penn State and Ohio State TWICE!

Recommended Posts

Oregon would meet one in the quarters, and the other

in the Semis.

Even the SEC-Lovin' ESPN crew admitted that

things needed to be changed....for next year.

Fine.  Go beat the Bastards TWICE.

Let's just get to 16 teams and be done with it!  We all play through,

and Oregon would host a No. 16 team in freezing fog at Autzen.

The format kind of, sort of, maybe, made sense with a power 5.

Now, even the ESPN honks are calling this 'STUFF' out.

I'm sure there is somewhere in the world where teams ranked behind others jump the higher-ranked teams but I don't know where.

You could see this coming from a Loooooong ways off.

If the four team format was being used this year, we are in the playoffs with Texas, Penn State and Notre Dame.  I think we destroy all of those teams.  We would be extremely well positioned to win the national championship.  The road is going to be harder with a 12 team field.  I could see this coming from a long way off as well...  Just our luck....  Go Ducks!!

Once the conference championship games are concluded things will change. If PSU loses they will drop below OSU in the final rankings because of the H2H loss. Texas and UGA will certainly change some seedings. The Dawgs would drop below Bama for sure due to their H2H loss.

If Oregon loses they could drop to 5 or 6 depending on how the committee views Notre Dame. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time the Irish got their golden domes polished by the voters.

Just Ducky, I began laughing when I saw the format back when. The format was altered to have 5 and not 6 conference champs in the field but preferred seeding for 4 conference champs SUCKS!

We will see a far different format in 2026/27,

Yep. The Bama’s, Georgia’s and the Clemson’s would be nowhere near the 4 team playoff this year. We thought they expanded the playoff to 12 teams to open the door for Cinderella. But, all it did was allow for more wicked step sisters to come crashing through.

It feels this will look different after this weekend.

Just focus on winning B1G.

That said, this easily looks like a bracket set up with North side getting B1G into final and south side getting SEC into final.  Top teams from each league are on same side of each other’s bracket.

The 2 Power brokers at work to ensure each gets into Natty.

I have never seen any true logic in a 12 team format.

* made sense, but 12 only ensured the existing former power teams had a larger piece of the pie, and leaves the door open to a massive game of down south hosing.

Yeah, the “power brokers” who set this up, (conference reps of schools like Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Oregon, Ohio State and Penn State), all knew last summer what the team records were going to be in December and arranged the bracket accordingly so OBD would get screwed!

Greg Sankey, Bob Bowlsby, Craig Thompson, and the Notre Dame AD 😧set this format up because Sankey needed🤑 Notre Dame's and as it turned out Washington State's 😁approval to change the format before the 2026/27 season. Sankey needed a unanimous vote.

Now that the rubber has hit the SEC road, I'm not sure Gregory is happy with the Frankenstein Monster he created. We haven't heard a peep from Our Guy Tony Petitti. 😍 🤑

You cannot overcome a bad design without a fix. the format will be fixed in 2026. However, with the Power 2 taking the (not Nittany) lion's share of the field, rematches between conference teams will come with the PO territory. Usually against the same conference suspects.

PULVERIZE PENN STATE!

You have to remember if we do beat Penn St. on Saturday, they will most likely fall out of the #5 slot, who is put in there depends on who wins in the other various games.  I really wouldn't complain until we see the entire bracket.

The biggest thing I find outrageous is Bama in the playoff, they have no business being there, Ole Miss and Miami are more deserving, no team that lost to Vandy and got destroyed by a bad OU team has any business being in the playoff.  At least Miami's losses were close, I'm not one to defend Miami, but I really don't think we should be rewarding programs for having 3 losses of which two are to really mediocre teams.

Ok

..ok

....ok.

I get it.  New kid on the block.  Gotta "make em" Earn it!  So let's make sure that IF they get in as a #1 seed that they will have a significantly more difficult path to a championship.

WHEN OBD finishes running the 2024 gauntlet set before them, back at the beginning of September, and WIN their first Natty under DL, it will HAVE to be viewed as the Greatest Championship run by Any NCAA football power!

Then, grudgingly, the Blue bloods will have to Deal With a little bit of Green Bloods crashing their "exclusive" party!

Can't wait for P Fawnbaum and the ESPN narrative to make whatever excuses they can muster on why this has happened.  Tough T***ies!  Just going to have to "suck it up" and accept the fact that there is a "new sheriff" in town and he is "Damn Green!

I don't understand why they want the same teams who have already played each other have to play each other again. What does that prove? If the bracket is the same at the end it definitely seems like they are setting it up for a SEC team to emerge on the right side of the bracket. Regardless, the ducks just need to persevere as they have already done.

I will defend Alabama here. Yes, they have three L's, Miami has 2, and even if their W's through video review were correct, why was Miami in that situation with mediocre teams like Virginia Tech, 6-6 & Cal, 6-6? Alabama has wins over Georgia. South Carolina, Missouri.  What is Miami's big win?  Vandy was a bad loss, but was it worse than Miami blowing a 21-0 lead to Syracuse?

Bama lost by 21 to a bad Oklahoma team, that right there excludes them from any playoff discussion, you can not lose by that much to a 6-6 team.  At the very least I think Ole Miss is more deserving than Bama, they beat Georgia and SC decisively, and while they do have a loss to Kentucky, none of their losses were by 3 TDs!

Funny thing about SMU is that they are basically getting nothing in terms of money from the ACC, they bet on themselves that they would step up and succeed, and by gawd they've done that this season.

I think it's sort of Ironic that during this year where we truly see the new world of college football with NIL and conferences being upturned it's SMU the one program that got the death penalty coming back to prominence.  I can only imagine how much their oil baron boosters are loving this.

I hope this is true, but I'm not so sure.  The committee has signaled that they will not penalize teams for participating and losing in the conference championship game.  I'd prefer that Ohio St. climb one more spot and move to the other side of the bracket.

Two of the top five protocols the committee uses are head to head and result against a common opponent. If PSU loses by more than one point they have the justification to bump them down.

The B1G's Saturday Tradition Take on the Penultimate Rankings.

We're Alabama - You're Not! The SEC sent out an SOS and in one case and one case only, the Committee paid attention to Strength Of Schedule.

"Bama has wins over 3 ranked teams." OK, but your No. 2 team Texas has, like Miami, ZERO top 25 wins. Boise State with a lower SOS than ASU/Iowa State is No. 10. Most love ever given to a G5 team.

This is an E$PN farce. All the manure thrown in the direction of the Committee is deserved. The NCAA uses disclosed metrics to set the fields for the football playoffs it manages. The NCAA Tournament Committee does the same.

13 people making multi-million dollar judgments are allowed to wing it. Righteous, right?

To Charles's point, the NFL reseeds the PO field to give the top teams the easier PO path. Not the CFB Committee, of course.

"March Madness" has 68 teams, and nothing is revealed until Selection Sunday, theirs's no chance a No.1 would rather be a No.5, and the 69th team is furious!

Well keep in mind that the bracket from yesterday is bound to change. OSU would def move out that slot if Georgia loses.  Penn St may change with loss as well.  I dont see a scenario based on upcoming games that OSU will remain in that slot playing Tennessee and then possibly us

Spank Franklin! The format is pathetic but no reason not to Plaster Penn State, Win the B1G in OBD's Year One, and play in Pasadena. Ohio State in the Rose Bowl would be an ironic and iconic traditional Rose Bowl matchup. 😍
