BigDog No. 1 Share Posted January 4 Take this for what it's worth, but it does give me hope/peace about the game, if it's true. My daughter came home today and told me about a manager in the company she works for that went to the rose bowl. She said she sitting in a box seat next to a doctor during the game. The interesting thing about this is the doctor said that he and several others were called to the locker room for assistance. Apparently many of the team were sick and throwing up. She then shared with my daughter that she doesn't know if it was true, but that the doctor seemed to be genuine and that she could see Duck players throwing up on the sideline. David Marsh No. 2 Share Posted January 4 In one of the other forum threads I said I wouldn't be surprised if the team was sick with the norovirus that is highly contagious and incredibly awful. They just lacked the fight and nothing kicks the fight out of anyone like like this virus. I'm currently fighting it myself and I find myself exhausted in doing the easiest tasks. Every team has sick players this time of year and like Coach Lanning says “being sick is a choice.” The team was simply unprepared. (See Michael Jordan in Game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals.) Yes, I recall Kareem scoring 35 points when he had a headache or some other malady. Or course there is Willis Reed's dramatic entry into the Knick's championship game. The sympathetic nervous system can mask pain to a great extent, but there are limits. Stomach problems are different, however Mr. Marsh is correct. Stomach viruses are not only distracting but weaken the patient--for days. (BTW, my best wishes to him and all infected for a swift recovery.) This could explain why our players fared so poorly at the line of scrimmage, especially the tackle protecting DG's blindside. The biggest surprise of the game for me was the Ducks lack of success at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. But the notion of walking, not running, two blocks sounds horrendous. I couldn't imagine having to play a football game in this state. And it's the Rose bowl, no player would want to miss playing in that game. Charles Fischer Administrator No. 10 Share Posted January 4 While I would like this rumor to be true as an explanation for the first half, the fact that with all the players, all the coaches, and all the support personnel of the team has not said anything in interviews, (and all their social media) about it, and thus makes me wonder. I understand how Lanning may have told everyone to not report it, as he as a coach does not want diminish the victory of the opposing team. Babyjesus615 No. 18 Share Posted January 5 It didn’t seem to me that our defenders had a lack of intensity on the field. When you look back on the game you can clearly see them scrambling to break plays and just getting beaten. I think there is something to what I’ve been hearing that Ohio State may have withheld a decent portion of their playbook anticipating making the playoff. Part of that is a gamble, yes; but when you pay $20 million for a roster there has to be some assumption that you’ll be making the post season. This could have been part of their game plan all along. Even Dan Lanning consulted multiple NFL teams prior to the season in order to better prepare for a longer slate of games and how to successfully navigate their way to the end.
