12 hours ago12 hr Moderator No. There was another thread about this, but it’s locked and I know last night’s game will revive this subject. In my opinion he needs more time as a starter. It’s not just the game reps, but the practice reps and game prep (film study, meetings, etc.). The mentality is different between the backups and the starter.Below is the first play from last night’s game. He obviously had it pre-determined in his mind who he was going to throw to. Had he read the defense he would’ve noticed #5 sitting on the short route with a safety over the top and moved to his next progression. He would’ve seen JMac breaking free from a blown coverage and hit him for a score.Indiana has a great defense, but NFL defenses are much faster. Good NFL QB’s don’t guess where the open receiver is going to be. They read the defense and process their movement and start their throws before the receiver breaks open.
12 hours ago12 hr No. I think it would be foolish to forego another season. He definitely needs a little more polish.
11 hours ago11 hr No. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that he has only started 20 games in college. He has all the talent in the world, but just needs to get a little better at seeing the field at times. He will get there with more experience, just like Bo or Mendoza did. If his goal is to play football in the NFL for a longtime, he should stay one more year.
10 hours ago10 hr No. Indiana has a great college defense, but it is not the defense Dante will see in the NFL. He needs at least one more year to develop before going to the next level.
10 hours ago10 hr No. He also needs more time in the pocket ... Mendoza time, for instance. I hope DL gets some big meanies from the portal and commits for that O-line. This year's version was a little lacking.
9 hours ago9 hr No. Yes, he needs another year. The difference between Dante and Mendoza was stark last night. And he needs another move besides that right-hand spin to escape to his left when faced with pressure.
9 hours ago9 hr No. Difference last night was a 3 year starter vs a 1 year starter. I don't really count his UCLA starts since it was a mess. IMO he should finish his time at Oregon, win the Heisman and be the 1st round NFL QB pick. He's going to go to some suck NFL team and get beat up so why not enjoy college like Bo and Dillon did then take your chance in the NFL.

Many of these suck teams where QB’s go to die are that way for a reason. They like to throw their rookie QB’s out on the field too early and it destroys their psyche when they get beat down. A good QB with a lot of experience can overcome some of the problems that come with starting too early in his career.
9 hours ago9 hr No. Miami, Beck - 41 startsIndiana, Mendoza - 34 startsOregon, Moore - 22 startsThe winning play Miami called was a pass. Beck recognized that was going to be blown up, and trotted into the end zone in empty space. Would Moore have forced the pass? He most likely would have been "locked in." Experience matters.
8 hours ago8 hr No. HIs NFL stock took a beating last night. Probably dropped to the second round, unless you're the Raiders.
8 hours ago8 hr No. Doesn't look like an NFL QB to me. Not sure playing another seson will really matter. Who is going to help improve him on Oregon's staff anyway?
8 hours ago8 hr No. I would highly doubt that Moore will be going to the NFL this year. His downfield vision is not that great and he doesnt scramble well.

7 hours ago7 hr No. I don't watch much pro football anymore, but enough to know that was not a nfl qb I watched last night. Maybe another year will change that, maybe not. Not a particularly good scrambler, locks on receiver often and ignores or does not see way too many open downfield receivers..

I'm afraid we may already be seeing his upside. Against average defences he does great. When D's are really good he chokes. 2 more years at Oregon would be ideal or would it?
7 hours ago7 hr No. I have a hunch that Lanning will at least be looking into the portal for a QB whether Dante stays or goes.
6 hours ago6 hr Moderator No. A sure fire top five pick or clearly not ready for the pros seems like a bizarrely wide gap. Personally, I like Dante and want him to succeed but I’ve never understood the hype.Where would you rank him with Nix, Herbert, Mariota, Dixon, Harrington , Akili Smith, Musgrave or Miller? Where would he rank with Musgrave Graziani, O Noel, Clemens, Masoli, Thomas, Vernon Adam’s or Gabriel. How would the Ducks have looked last night with any of those other options? Again I like Dante but I just don’t understand the hype.
6 hours ago6 hr No. He certainly needs more time. Time will tell if his processing capabilities have the potential to greatly improve in reducing time for recognition.

I would also compare Moore with Darron Thomas or Akili Smith when it comes to reading defenses.
5 hours ago5 hr No. He definitely hurt his NFL stock last night. In fact, I hope it doesn't kill his confidence even as a Ducks QB. He will need time to boune back, so playing against softer D in college may be the answer. However, college O lines also are not as good as pro, so who knows - if he managed to drop his stock enough, he may not end up with the Raiders and actually get better protection in NFL to make his throws. On the other hand, NFL is not dumb enough to miss his inability to scan the field and make good decisions. Would be interesting to see what transpires in the next few days...
4 hours ago4 hr No. I, too, like Dante as a young man, and wish him the best. However, on a discussion forum like this, perhaps a question ought to be raised. By analogy, is he Justin Herbert, Dennis Dixon, or Ty Thompson?Herbert? "The NFL is not a developmental league," one pundit says. On the contrary, a good QB coach (with the Chargers, not Mario's Ducks) developed Justin, and he is now a pro-bowl player. Dixon? An introvert prone to self-doubt, a bit of an ugly duckling, but one who somehow transformed into a Heisman quality player in his senior year. Thompson? Dante has some good personal qualities in addition to his physical gifts. However, the ability to speak well, or for that matter to do theoretical physics, does not guarantee that one can determine where to pass a football in 2.5 seconds.
3 hours ago3 hr No. Does Dante Moore Need Another Year in CollegeEasiest question of the day. Yes. 1000% yes.If he was drafted by an NFL team right now and shoved into a starting role -- which would almost certainly be the case, NFL players would eat him alive. However, I think he has the potential to be a great future NFL quarterback. But if he came out now and was forced to start, the NFL would eat him for lunch. The kid is absolutely not NFL ready. Indiana is clearly college fast. But all NFL players basically operate at other-worldly, semi-warp-like, speed. Every NFL player who steps onto the grass is an incredible freak of nature, and our young man is simply not ready for that... yet.
1 hour ago1 hr No. We say Dante had only 20 starts, but Mendoza only had 19 to start this year. Dante 100% needs another year, and to improve his field vision dramatically in the face of pressure. I hope he can.
1 hour ago1 hr No. An unqualified yes. Can we even imagine how quickly things would go south with the Jets or the Browns? It seems that the main purpose of both franchises is to ruin promising QB careers. NIL makes this an easier choice as well.
57 minutes ago57 min No. Maybe he hurt his NFL evaluation enough to drop in the draft and now he can be picked up by a good team in need of a backup. Backup QB is a pretty good job with less chance of being broken for the rest of your life.Dose he have that killer instincts to get the Ducks to the promise land? Some QBs just manufacturer the will to win and some have all the arm talent in the world but can't lead a team effectively.Bo and Herbert where leaders and you could just tell the team was theirs can Dante make that jump?
