Prediction Contest Winner NOT Close...But None of Us Were!
Usually the winning margin is much closer, but one our favorite members, GatOrlando, won the contest with a margin of 13 total points. The actual score was 51-34, and he predicted a 48-24 for the winner! I love seeing prominent OBD forum members win, and we offer our congrats to GatOrlando! Thanks to all for taking part, and the next one is going to be a dandy to predict... Let's All Celebrate!

I'm hoping that gets greased with oil money closer to kickoff and get more. So, you're saying we get to eat Tech for BFast? Over easy (and early) please.

Playoff Round One After Thoughts
I think the loss of Davison could be huge in this game. Hopefully he is okay and can go, but it didn’t look promising. He is the most physical of all the RBs and that is the type of back we need against Tech.

Playoff Observation: Best So Far?
Living in Texas, I’ve watched a fair amount of Tech. They are impressive, and the only loss was when their QB1 was out against ASU. Their linebacker group may be the best in CFB. My observation is that they are built similarly to OBD; I feel like it will be us playing against another version of us. Duck fandom aside, I think this is the most interesting of the next round of games. It has the potential to be a classic. Can’t wait.

Closer Than it Probably Should Have Been: Oregon vs JMU Box Score
I was not pleased with the final score, I will lead with that first. I did NOT like the defense in the second half, regardless of it was the 2's, 3s, 4s, or some local high school talent. We expected more from the defense, and I know DL and TL did as well. OBD's size, athleticism, and skill SHOULD have held JMU to less yards and points. I know it our secondary is young (except Thieneman), but the play needs to improve. I get that DL probably wanted to get some guys into a playoff game, knowing that the next one won't be the same. Now, nobody watching this game thought the outcome was in doubt. The offense scored at will. I can only imagine Dante in the huddle telling Malik, "Just go long, I'll hit you". I really wish that DL would have run up the score, not to embarrass JMU, but to create that foot-on-the-throat mentality. The offense seemed to pull back, the defense played soft, and we are left with question marks. I don't like that. From a personal level, it doesn't sit well with me. I was always told by my coaches to NEVER get comfortable or play down to your competition. The first half, the Ducks showed who they were, an elite offense and defense. The second half, it was almost like they said "Hey JMU, you came all this way, we'll let you have some fun." Do I sometimes care to much what the national media thinks of the Ducks? Yes, and I think we gave them a lot to criticize. I DO think things will be cleaned up against TTU on the defensive side. Mentally, the players know that TTU is a whole different level than JMU and I believe they will bring the intensity. One last thing. This offense. HOLY CRAP!! The embarrassment of riches (when we get everyone back) is ridiculous. E-Stew, DAK, McMillian, Benson, GB Jr, and ohhh, let's put Sadiq as a wideout. OBD can outscore anyone, yes even Ohio State. No team out there can match the Ducks for skill/speed/athleticism in skill positions. So, clean up the defense, Dante do your thing, and OBD may be hoisting the first NC in football in program history. It's there for the taking.

Rainbow trout, Willow Creek, AK. That’s a size 13 wading boot for reference. This is how you have to take fish pictures when fishing alone. I guess I wasn’t as “alone” as I thought. Dolly Varden, Kenai River, AK. The cork on my fly rod is 7 inches for reference.

Oregon vs. Texas Tech Pregame Discussion
Thank you, Doctor. The line is set close to a Pick 'Em. Despite the hyperbolic title of the linked article (🤪shocking, right?), the only message the early lines speak to is, 'Balance the Book!' The below referenced book has Texas Tech -1.5. This will be the first time this season that Joey McGuire and his Red Raiders match up against a team with a Blue Chip Roster and also a team that was in the portal pickers' top 5. Texas Tech will not have the roster advantage it had in all 13 games played before 1/1/26. TT played one game in the Eastern time zone this season, destroying West Virginia 49-0. TT and OBD shared one opponent this season, both played Beavis at home: OBD 41-7, TT 45-14. TT did have two impressive wins against BYU, scored often in the 4th quarter to win decisively over turnover-prone Utah in SLC, and lost at ASU behind its backup QB when Sun Devils QB Sam Leavitt was healthy. One of the wins over BYU was in Lubbock, and the other came in Arlington, Texas, where the Dallas Cowboys roam. Ohio State in the Cotton and not the Orange Bowl? Did the Buckeyes have their choice after Big Ten champ, Indiana, won the right to play in the Rose Bowl? If so, with Miami's win over A&M, Brutus got lucky on two fronts. No game against Miami, a team that does not travel well, in Miami's home stadium, and no A&M in Dallas. (Why do the Luckeyes get all of these postseason breaks?) I agree with above comments that TT will have the majority of fans in the Hard Rock Stadium on the 1st, I expect TOSU fans will take over Jerry's Joint. I hope Indiana and its fans, that have not visited Pasadena since 1968, can find the stadium? Grand Pa Duck could get his wish of playing Bama, but in Atlanta? No thanks. However, I don't think Cig's guys will help the Tide Roll Sooner than later. 9 AM body clock kickoff for OBD and fans, but no team has done better playing two or more time zones away from home than Danny and the Ducks. FWIW, my buddies and I have OBD +1.5. It should be a terrific game. Lasso the Tortillas! Oddsmakers send a clear message about Texas Tech, Oregon with Orange Bowl line

Dan Lanning remains furious despite Oregon Ducks' 51-34 CFP win over James Madison“We didn’t play our best football,” Lanning said. “We turned the ball over multiple times and we’ve got to play better on defense. It was like a tale of two halves. We played well in the first half but didn’t play well in the second. We can play so much better than that.” Lanning said the Rose Bowl loss to Ohio State this past season still bothers him, but suggests this year's team can find the resilience to pull through to keep rolling. “Getting better, period,” Lanning said. “Getting better. We got an opportunity to advance, and now we get an opportunity to improve.” More specifically, Lanning was not happy with the Ducks' 34-6 halftime lead being squandered away. “We started off hot,” Lanning said. “We can be better. In the second half, as a team, we didn’t play the way we needed to play. You have to find moments like that when you have a big lead, to be able to choke somebody out and we didn’t do that.” Dan Lanning remains furious despite Oregon Ducks' 51-34 C...The Oregon Ducks became the second Big Ten team to advance in the College Football Playoff. While fans were in a celebratory mood Saturday evening, Lanning was left searching for answers.

Oregon vs. Texas Tech Pregame Discussion
Hostile environment favors us, we clearly lose steam when there's no pressure, I'm sure Dan could use that metaphor or something similar as the message. Create your own steam because this Tech team is legit. The RBs have a mix of power and speed like Davison for us and the WRs make contested catches pretty often. The defense scared me before watching the tape, but they seem really vulnerable to misdirection. If you can get crossing routes to flow against the pass rush you can hit big plays, Utah and Dilly did it multiple times. That Utah game was closer than the score and gave me hope that we can move the ball. Our defense is actually what concerns me, these Tech backs can run for 5 or 6 yards after contact if Flowers or Dillon are the first to arrive. Flowers continues to miss open field tackles and that can hurt us against this team especially since Morton can run well. I think this looks a lot like our 2023 match-up, down to the last possession.

Playoff Observation: Best So Far?
Its tough to say just how good Dante is compared to others still in the tourney. One key aspect of any qb's game is how they hold up against adversity, and that adversity is coming. During the loss to Indiana a saw Dante really struggle with dealing with pressure. Since then he's appears to have improved in this area, but he will be tested big time again. I was impressed with Alabama qb in a come back win, didnt seem rattled at all even in first half of that game.

Playoff Round One After Thoughts
I’m torn on what we all witnessed. On one hand they did exactly what I wanted. Build a big lead, put in back ups and rest starters. On the other I also realize that comes with less than stellar results which is the trade off. It’s hard not to be the spoiled fan disappointed that we didn’t both dominate AND play the backups. Like. I said in point six, I hope the less than satisfactory ending keeps the team humble and focused. I’m sure Lanning will be using it for this week’s motivation.
