NIL Toppled SEC Dominance
Before the 2006-07 season concluded, this SEC narrative didn't exist. Ohio State, and Michigan were slotted for a rematch, and it took Urban Meyer campaigning to get Florida on a field that they were told they didn't belong. Remember, we were coming off the USC dynasty, and the U part 2. Auburn was undefeated in 2004, but got left out of the BCS National Championship. Auburn won their bowl game, but didn't receive the same favor USC got the year prior. USC was the undisputed champion, after pasting Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. The SEC was looked at as pretty good, but not capable of consistently having a program that could compete with USC, Miami, Ohio State, or Oklahoma. All of that changed in January 2007, in Glendale Arizona. Florida was meant to be the final stepping stone to the crowning of Troy Smith, and Ohio State. Well, it started off well for them with the Ted Ginn kickoff return. But it quickly became apparent over the next 59:34 that there was a mismatch. The following year, LSU beat Ohio State in New Orleans. The year after that, Florida beat Oklahoma in Miami. Alabama beat Texas in Pasadena, Auburn beat Oregon in Glendale. Alabama beat LSU in New Orleans. Alabama beat Notre Dame in Miami. Then the streak stopped, as Florida State beat Auburn in Pasadena. Ohio State beat Alabama in New Orleans en route to winning the first ever playoff era national championship. There was talk of the Alabama dynasty dying that night in New Orleans. But then Alabama would go on, and beat Clemson to win another title. Clemson would get their revenge the next year. Alabama would beat Georgia the year after. Clemson would destroy Alabama the year after that, and we were apparently seeing the kryptonite to Alabama. Clemson was the new dynasty. LSU dispatched that the next year, and then disappeared. Alabama came back, and destroyed Ohio State. Before Georgia had their revenge by beating Alabama, and then a second piece of cake the next year, in that blowout vs TCU. The new era began, and Michigan won the next year. You could say Michigan officially ended the Alabama dynasty in the Rose Bowl that year. Ohio State ran through Tennessee, and beat Texas in essentially a road game en route to winning the first ever 12 team CFP title. Notre Dame dispatched Georgia, and that was it. Michigan, Ohio State, and Notre Dame had proven the gap was closed. Michigan bullied Alabama. Ohio State made Tennessee, and Texas look slow, and Notre Dame proved that Brian Kelly was a fool. This year, Indiana officially closed the book in a way that made Finebaum sick. It isn't just Ohio State, or Michigan. Indiana just did to Alabama, what Alabama used to do to Michigan State, or Washington. Totally outclassed, physically, and coaching wise. Indiana, Oregon, and Ohio State would've cruised through the SEC. Look at the line play, look at the teams still alive. Ole Miss is the last hope, but they haven't faced a line like they are going to see on Thursday. Five years ago, that statement would've seen as insane. An SEC team hasn't seen the physicality in the postseason like the one they'll see vs Indiana, or an ACC team? Yeah, that's the proof. I wouldn't say the NIL era has killed the SEC, it's just proven that those programs were playing with an extra ace, it's why they are crying about going to nine conference games. Kirby Smart crying about depth after the SEC Title Game is the result of NIL. He can't go three deep anymore, and it's affected him. Everything settled in time. Twenty years ago, the SEC was seen as good, not great. I think that statement is still true. There will be your usual suspects winning titles, but they aren't going to be doing it year after year. That era is gone, there won't be anymore all SEC National Title games. We had three, and that was enough. Nobody wants to see Alabama vs Georgia for a national title. There's parity my friends, and that's a good thing. Oregon, Ole Miss, or Indiana is going to be playing for the first ever national title. If it's Indiana, or Ole Miss, it will be the first time in their history that they will even be playing for one. This is great for the sport. The only thing that needs to be fixed is this transfer portal nonsense. If a guy signs a contract, head coach, or player. Hold them to it, it's absolutely ridiculous that you have players leaving while their team is playing for a championship. It's even more ridiculous how the whole Lane Kiffin saga played out. In the NFL, you can't enter free agency, and you can't take another job while your team is still playing.

(Former) UW QB Demond Williams Entered the Transfer Portal
Word in the Twitterverse is LSU made a play for him and he sent out his portal announcement when the rest of his teammates were at a memorial for fellow student-athlete, Mia Hammant who succumbed to cancer. This all checks out since he seems to be getting advice from Lane Kiffin on proper timing 🙄.

Limar Hits the Portal
That’s next week. The Indiana game is Friday. Furthermore, I don’t see anything preventing a player from being enrolled in multiple schools. You usually have weeks to drop classes without penalty. I’m sure there is a work around. If your new school/coach doesn’t understand or is not supportive of you finishing the season and competing for a national championship, do you really want to play for that coach/school?

Just heard that on the way in to work as well. I no longer consider it "tampering" any longer as there is no way to actually regulate communication between players and their potential suitors. I would, however, find it odd for Oregon to knowingly try to get him to leave knowing his potential legal predicament. Could be interesting.

Limar Hits the Portal
The "inconvenience and frustrations" are part of the point. NFL-Lite knows where it wants to go and having the "masses" scream and cry out for the very changes they want to make is preferable to having to "fight" what for what you want to get, but with significant obstacles standing in your way. Let the frustrations...simmer...to Piss off enough people, and they will give you what you want to alleviate whatever is piss'n em off. Standard human ploy been used since mankind first started cooperating together for common goals. We have been witnessing this in college athletics for most of this century. The rules, standards, and traditions, especially in the sports of football and basketball, are completely night and day from what athletes, coaches, and administrations built their programs and infrastructure around pre 2000's. Give it a few more years, but no later than mid 2030's (still have annoying pre NFL-lite TV contracts to burn through) and we will probably see a 16-24 team playoff, no conference title games (unless integrated into the playoffs in some way), maximum of 10 -12 days "off" for Any playoff teams, NCG being played NLT the second weekend on January, and the transfer portal aligned better to allow all teams, playoffs or not, be on equal footing with each other for the same portal window and coaching carousel. I for one am not crazy about it but also something I have no personal control over, so it will be whatever it will be. Just hope that OBD can remain the oddball program that somehow keeps its (duck)head and values about itself and continues to try to stay above the "fray" going on all around college athletics. GO DUCKS!

Also, could be that “New Weasel” is just trying to stir things up. George Wrightster said a few weeks ago that Oregon has a, “plan in place” for a QB if Dante goes pro. He did not elaborate. 🤔

Oregon Ducks Receive Rough Transfer News After Jordan Davison Injury
I completely disagree, respectfully of course. Davison is a special player and will be missed. He is a completely different back, with a different skill set, compared to Witt and Hill. They are all complimentary to one another. Hopefully someone can step up to fill the void.

As a former athlete/competitor, I don’t understand why you would quit on your team in the middle of a national championship run. Even if you weren’t playing, contributing on the scout team and being part of a potential national championship is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

(Former) UW QB Demond Williams Entered the Transfer Portal
According to Rick Neuheisel on XM radio, the “smoke in the air” is that the Ducks are the player for Demond Williams and LSU wants Sam Leavitt. Although I would love to rub that in the huskies face to get Williams from them, I think I would rather have Leavitt if Dante goes pro. In addition, it sounds like the huskies will not give up without a fight and that could put Williams on ice for a bit.

Urgent: Dan Lanning Needs to Protect Dante Moore
Excellent documentation Mike Whitty! Coach Cignetti was definitely playing the refs the whole game. His long career has helped him craft that skill set. Thank you for writing today's article! This picture should have earned him a 15 yard Unsportsmanlike Penalty! Getting a mere 2 or 3 inches nose to nose to a Referee and yelling into his face is not acceptable.

Urgent: Dan Lanning Needs to Protect Dante Moore
The Indiana football team visit to Autzen Stadium on October 11, 2025, was described by all three CBS announcers as a “very physical game,” and those comments came at half time. The statistics favored Indiana, as did the 30-20 final score. However, there was a game-changing element that has been rarely discussed about that game that could impact Friday’s result. ... College football is spiraling out of control. I just want the Ducks win one national championship. Then I will decide if it all is still worth it. Remember that big time eclipse? I think it was in summer of 2017. I got worked up for it. Saw it. And now I no longer care. College football is getting really bad with all the nonsense, but we still want to win so badly. What is going wrong with other teams is eventually going to catch up and happen to us. At some point, I am going to say that 'getting worked up over 18 year old billionaires is just not worth it'. Lets hope Oregon takes care of Indiana then rides the momentum to a natty and get one in the books. The NBA lost many of its fans with their own brand of nonsense. And those fans are never coming back. College football is (was) great because it was played by amateurs and everybody (except Alaskans) had a team. Look at national champions from way back when. Lots of teams from all over the country. Even Idaho (Boise St) was a national player for a little while. Now there are only two real conferences. And only a handful of real teams in those conferences. Yes, Oregon is now one of them. For now. Phil won't live forever. The Nike heirs may not care about Oregon football. This is why we need it NOW. Washington has a psuedo championsip(s) in their historical locker. We need ours.

Oregon (Non) Availability Report for Peach Bowl
LBs Platt and Mothudi, who both played RB in HS, took reps with the offense yesterday. The former is 6'2" 230 and runs a 11.0 100m. The latter is 6'3" 240, ran track, played serious hoop and had 1400 yds rushing as a junior. Something will get dialed up for them on Friday. Run Sadiq from slot to backfield and back out again. Hell, do the jumbo, give Boettcher the rock and glue him to Pregnon's fanny on 4th and 1. Yeah, Davison being out sucks. There is a very deep talent pool to draw from that can still make a difference. Fact is the real battle will be up front. If Dante and Pancho recognize the defensive alignments, make adjustments, the O-line makes holes and Noah and D Hill run thru those holes, the depth of the RB room won't mean diddly squat.

Correct on all points. B1G HQ stands by the enforceability of the agreement. Miami's motion to dismiss has been denied. Why not leave to play for a coach who left his team in the middle of a playoff run? They deserve one another.

Fortunately, indentured servitude is not allowed in the United States. It's prohibited by the Constitution. However, if the contract, using a format approved by B1G HQ, is worth the paper it is written on, UW can sue for damages, and also sue for Interference with a Contract against the party(ies) that induced him to breach the agreement. You sign a deal, and less than a week later, say, 'I've been blessed to play for UW and its fans, but after praying on it, I have to do what's best for me.' 'Don't be mad, UW fans. My Higher Power told me to break my word and leave for more money.' 🤪 He cannot be restrained from playing elsewhere, but Williams and third parties involved with this nonsense can be sued for damages, and I hope UW wins the suit. According to the law, Williams is not a 'kid.' He's over 18 years of age, and he signed a contract. Under Washington state law, he's an adult; whether he acts like one or not is irrelevant.

I agree that schools should have some control. But, Pros having been doing it for years, why not their "minor league" now? Sports contracts have been a one-way street for years . . . perform well and demand a new deal or threaten to sit/demand a trade vs poor play and your owner is stuck.
