Chip is Available
Yeah, I remember Kelly's teams at Oregon fondly, but I think the young innovators of today are what Lanning is looking for and what fits the culture he has/is building. Though I wouldn't have minded seeing what the offense under Chip would have looked like with the Ducks current offensive line and the depth of playmakers we now have. I think that would have been fun, well it was fun, it would be even funner!🤣

Most of the young players to be recruited dont know much about Chip and his days at Oregon.

Wowsa. Pro Football Focus, (PFF) Said Some Wild Things about Our Beloved Ducks....
No grief here, that's the kind of stuff I've been wanting all season! It's the cutesy nickel and dime stuff that frustrates me! We have great players for power/slashing running and down field passing. Let's do that.

And There Goes Another: Cal fires Wilcox
But I sure like having these feeder programs available for us. It reminds me a bit of having Minor Baseball League clubs, but being able to poach the talent at will.

And There Goes Another: Cal fires Wilcox
Not to wish ill on Cal (my alma mater) but might JKS be willing to transfer and serve as Dante's backup for a year before taking the reins? His talent ceiling is higher than Novosad, Moga, Smith and incoming Beaver and he could follow as the next in line to the NFL. He would have a far superior O-line and skill players in Eugene and better coaching even if WS moves on by that time. Dante has risen back up draft boards after the last several good performances. The negatives from his Indiana game have dissipated some. No recent word on his supposed inclination to return to Oregon next year, but it would appear to be in his best interest to do so. JKS would be a good heir apparent. And if Dante leaves, he would likely be odds on favorite to win the starting job in 2026.

Chip is Available
Here's all I really care to know about Chip: 46-7 as Oregon Head Coach. 87% Winning Record - As of now, an all time Oregon % record - Though Lanning is right on his heels at 86%. 4 Straight BCS Games 3 PAC12 Conference Championships 1 National Championship Game Chip may have been in the right place at the right time, but I will always greatly appreciate how he chose to look wayyy outside the traditional college football box, because in order to have major success at Oregon at that time, he had to. In those 4 short years, Kelly rocked not only Oregon, but college football. Do I care that he has mostly sucked since leaving Oregon? Not really. I will be forever grateful for the ride he took us on, and for nearly coaching us into winning the National Championship.

Oregon vs. USC was the Game this Season Needed
David, great article. This game had a different feel and meaning than all the rest of this seasons games. And the game against the huskies will have even more meaning and feelings. Watching OBD's dominate the LOS against the sneak around your back, stab you in the back, self righteous, self entitled, spoiled children of Troy can only be topped this weekend! For this fan, those that shall not be named up North, the ultimate rivalry is beating the leg lifters. Beating them never gets old. Beating the Trojans raised are national awareness but it is wasted without beating the leg-lifting dogs. Go Ducks, you are playing for the Natty again this weekend......

Chip is Available
This may be piling on, but no one has mentioned Chip's tenure at UCLA. He was 35 & 34 after 6 seasons, 26 & 26 in conference play. Just say "No" to mediocrity. Go Ducks!

Oregon vs. USC was the Game this Season Needed
I agree with so much of what you wrote David, and not much has been made of how well Oregon rushed with 60% of the offensive line starters out for most of the game!

I might add that Sabans OC's were predominately young. The CFB landscape is littered with HC's with their roots as some kind of coach under Saban. Why? Why are they Head Coaches now? Why so many? IMO, it's due to their extremely high energy in recruiting and their ability to connect with players. Saban was the straw that stirred the drink but those coaches never slept with recruiting. Intense energy by a lot of those, now these, Coaches.

Chip is Available
Just a different perspective: I believe that Chip is still Chip. That Blur offense was brand new and used power football against themselves. By the rime the 3rd quarter showed up, the entire team was gassed. You can't keep using this strategy now that the League (light) has changed as well. The second thing I think of with Chip is that he has little patience. That was fine when you had Industry changing innovation at your finger tips. People will put up with that so as long as you are winning. Today, these kids come to Oregon to WIN but also to connect with their coach. Chip, IMO, would not make much of a coordinator but possibly as a HC. Before you get all bothered by his stint with OSU, I refuse to put the (t) in there, that team was loaded with NFL talent that is highly self motivated. They were probably harder on themselves than Chip was. They didn't need to be coddled but probably kicked. So, NO, we don't need/want Chip. Thx for the memories Chipper, you were the greatest! Now, if Stein leaves, we need a like minded, high energy recruiter and motivator. It looks like our OC's need to be tedious and not necessarily innovative. We have the skill sets with recruits but need a surgeon dissecting defenses with personal strengths. I don't believe it's any more difficult than that. Getting that replacement, that is THAT driven is the Key! Just my Buffalo Nickle's worth

Time to be Thankful for Husky Hate Week
I believe this is the first time we've played UW over the Thanksgiving weekend, but I'm thankful it's here and we're ready to go. This is the championship game for UW and their at home where they've played way better than when on the road which is reflected in the spread being lower than it was for USC. Vegas is forgetting about our road record. We've arguable played better on the road than at home this year. And we can play the kind of ball UW has struggled with. DUBS DOWN!

Chip is Available
Chip is not about the team. Chip is all about himself, and hiring him erodes what I perceive as a strong part of the culture that DL is building at Oregon. Being prepared for the inevitable loss of assistants is a part of being a top program. Oregon, under DL, is a very attractive opportunity for OC’s with an eye on putting together a strong resume for a HC position. Oregon should already have better candidates on their list.

And There Goes Another: Cal fires Wilcox
I imagine there are more than a few of us keeping an eye on what happens at Florida (and who they hire) if a certain freshman WR (briefly signed then released by Oregon) who went through an unfortunate injury plagued freshman season might be open to a fresh start? 6-3 and 215 would compliment Dakorien, Evan Stewart, and McClellan nicely in 2026. As well, (a Duck runner-up) freshman CB at LSU (who has looked very good), might consider a change with their new staff (though if he can handle Brian Kelly he probably can handle just about anyone). Odds for either a huge longshot but...

Thank goodness we have Dan Lanning! His name is seldom on the board for those teams searching for a replacement. Dan Lanning is 'lucky' to be at Oregon as he's soaking up...The Ducks coach wants none of the coaching drama.
