Brock has been a fun story, and he’s done what has been asked of him. I’m rooting for him. That said, I do have concerns if he’s the legit #2 option and OBD ends up needing him to come in and win a game against a top-tier opponent. I fully believe that he’s moved ahead of Moga. But it’s more difficult for me to believe that he’s truly a better option than Novosad. Is Novosad not as good as we generally think? Or is this really about something else such as a potential medical redshirt or Dan not wanting scouting film on his next starter? Yes, Brock went 4/4 and led the team admirably yesterday, and in very poor conditions. But if I’m being honest I feel like they have to really back down the offense for Brock, and that circus-catch by Moore really should have been a pick. I tend to think that if OBD were behind, or playing a more dangerous team, we would see Novosad enter the game. I’m guessing we didn’t see him yesterday because Dan trusted that the defense would hold against an inept Wisconsin offense. I’d be curious to hear thoughts on this.

Thomas also threw a ball that looked like a devastating interception except it slipped through the defender's hands and landed in the hands of Dakorien Moore.

Top Six: tOSU, Indy, OBD, Iowa, UM, USC Mid Six:: Min, Neb, NW, UW, UCLA, Ill Bottom Six: Mary, Rut, PSU, MSU, Pur, Wisky OBD's results Top Six: 0-1 Mid Six: 1-0 Bottom Six: 3-0 Remaining Games Top Six: 2 Iowa, USC Mid Six: 2 Min, UW Bottom Six: None Of OBD's four wins, three are against the bottom six. The schedule really ramps up for the final four games.

The Ducks game planning and strategies need some help that's for sure--way too predictable.

The Buckeyes' bona fides were supposed to be evidenced this coming Saturday when James Franklin brings the Nittany Lions into Columbus. Right?😁 Texas A&M may have given Kelly the kill shot yesterday, but there are no teams in CFB this season that are a certain PO champion. South Carolina had Bama on the ropes, ditto Mississippi State with Texas. Did Oklahoma or Ole Miss look unbeatable? And Vandy and Missiouri are ranked because of where they play their football. I love your Dawgs, but this isn't a vintage UGA defense. Ohio State had an impressive win over 6-2 UW in Seattle. Ohio State also had a good win at Illinois, and Texas is a two-loss team and still in the running for the playoffs with two 'prove-it games' remaining. One against your Dawgs and the other in Austin vs. the Aggies. At the end of the regular season, Ohio State's win over Texas could be one of the best of the year. Two-loss Iowa, with a 3-point road loss at Iowa State and a 5-point home loss to Indiana, is not ranked. UW's two losses came against the AP No. 1 team and on the road in the Big House, where it's hard to win football games. Two-loss Nebraska has a win over one-loss and ranked Cincinnati. 6-2 Michigan, with a true frosh QB, is improving and AP-ranked because of its brand name. USC lost by ten points on the road to No. 12-ranked Notre Dame and dropped from No. 20 to out of the poll, with USF, LSU, and ASU ranked. Wins in the other Power 2 conference, the Big Ten, are not easy wins. Losses in the Big Ten count in the AP Poll far more than losses in the SEC. This is bound to happen when more than half of the SEC is ranked in the preseason top 25. Top to bottom IMO and by every metric the SEC is deeper than the B1G. But winning B1G games is not easy, and the B1G more than held its own against the SEC in the 2024-25 postseason. I also note that ESPN has Purdue-sized SEC drum, while Fox is playing B1G bongos. As OBD head into the final third of the season, some patterns have emerged in the team that become concerns to me that if not addressed create a dangerously low ceiling for an offense with much more potential. It should also be mentioned that against inferior competition, these concerns get hidden as the team simply overwhelms the defense on pure talent alone. Out of eight games played, the Ducks have shown major offensive struggles in three (Penn St, Indiana, Wisky). These are the three I'm most focused on and am talking about. Here are my main concerns. Offensive game plan: It feels against tougher competition, the plan gets way too conservative which creates predictability that tougher defenses exploit. Way to often, the Ducks seem to find themselves behind schedule then face third and long with inadequate plays designed to get the yardage needed. A three game sample size shows this to be a trend not just a one off. Conservative passing plays: Kind of part two from the first critique, there seems to be way to much passing behind the line of scrimmage and passing short on third down. A timid passing attack just allows the defense to jam the box with too many defenders that also helps to stifle the running game. All in all I think this conservative approach negates the talent advantage that seems designed to spread out a defense and get playmakers in space. AWOL playmakers: Time and time again in these tough battles, you see Sadiq with one or two receptions and Moore with two or three and Hill with a couple carries. What? All three of these guys have the potential to be national leaders at their positions but nearly disappear on their own stat sheets. Designing the offense to get these guys the ball should always be the priority. Bonus gripe: Davison should be starting and getting ten plus carries a game. Where's Moga? Before the season started, I was sure that the offense would feature some Luke Moga trickeration from time to time. All three games mentioned above needed some sort of spark to get the defense out of it's comfort zone. I thought that was why Moga was on the team. By halftime of the three games mentioned the Ducks had 3 (PSU), 10 (Indy) and 7 (Wisky). Seems like shaking things up was in order in all three to me. Putting it all together, I think OBD makes themselves way to easy to game plan against when they have the talent to be a nightmare. It feels like the ceiling for the offense has been set artificially low. Against lower level teams the talent mismatch gashes the defense and puts up video game numbers but against solid teams it's a perfect serving of sugar free vanilla pudding. I really hope something changes because this could still be a special season with special results.

Oregon had nine penalties for 75 yards. Two of them came in goal-to-go situations inside Wisconsin’s 10 yard line. Fortunately, the Ducks were able to overcome them and score TD’s. Another penalty came on 2nd and 2 in Wisconsin territory and eventually led to a punt. However, Oregon faked the punt and scored a TD only to have it called back by yet another penalty. This game very easily could have been 13-7 or 10-7 depending oh how Sappington kicked in the bad weather.

Last night only 3 running bacls had carries. JD, NW and DH. That means 4 highly talented running backs did not get touches or perhaps even make the plsying field. If we hold DL to his response about you earn playing time in the game by your effort and performance, then those 4 other RB's need to step up in practice. For me, it doesnt matter who starts or how many carries they get. What matters is how well the O line blocks for them. NW ran into walls in the first 4 drives. The O line was standing straight up and not firing out and moving the Whisky front 7. JD may be the best all around back and his sample size so far backs that up. If we actually make the CFP and win a Natty then we are just halfway thru the season. The formula of who starts or not and how many touches they get may depend on who we play, too. Iowa is going to be a difficult road game, especially if the Duck O line takes plays off or comes out flat footed. Last night, Whisky made this a hard fought rock fight in a monsoon. OBD's kept fighting back until they got their footing. Iowa will be another hard fought rock fight but on their home turf. JD and all the backs will go as far as the O line takes them. Our Duck D will need to play their best game of the year because this may be a 7-6 ball game. As an old Duck fan, i am glad we have JD and all these great backs. GO DUCKS......

True freshman Jordon Davison is the best all around running back on Oregon’s roster. He should be starting and getting 20+ carries a game. I don’t know what the coaches are seeing. Whittington’s stats are misleading because he’ll have a bunch of runs less than 2 yards and then break a few to improve his YPC average. Last night, 9 of Whittington’s 14 carries were 2 yards or less (64%). That inconsistency puts an offense behind the chains and kills drives. Davison, on the other hand, might not break a 60+ yarder but consistently gashes a defense for 6-8 yard runs. Even when he is bottled up he seems to fall forward for a few yards. He grinds down a defense the more carries he gets. All of Whittington’s bigger runs came after that drive that our OL and Davison imposed their will and ran the ball right down Wisconsin’s throat, if I recall correctly. Unlike in nature, the thunder has to come before (and in greater quantities) than the lightning. Right now Oregon’s coaches have that backwards. I hope a reporter asks our coaches why Davison isn’t getting more carries based on his in game production. At 0:15 in the below video Akili Smith, Jr. shows off his wheels/athleticism. He is certainly faster and more athletic than Dante Moore. Very similar to Justin Herbert, IMO. Hopefully our coaches take advantage of his full skillset, like we did with Herbert in the Rose Bowl Game, especially if he’s up to 220/230, as reported. With that frame, he can absorb hits and dish out sole punishment himself. Akili Smith, Jr.’s upside is off the charts.

What Mike West said. 😁Times how many times he posted. Also, what Charles and others said, a win is a win. Hopefully, this season is only half over, and OBD will play in 16 games. This Wisconsin game will be a distant memory. Such is College Football. Winning football games is hard. Especially in a monsoon, which hurts your team's speed and quickness advantage. Especially with a young football team. Especially with fourteen new starters. The last two seasons, the Ducks' QBs had more experience than any QBs starting in CFB. There will be erratic play out of Dante from time to time. The same guy who called plays last night called the plays in Jersey. The same guys blocked. Frustrating? Heck yes, but the winner of this game was never in doubt. Wisconsin has not quit on Luke Fickell, a coach who took the only G5 team to make the four-team PO field. Every B1G team has the defending conference champion in its sights. The coaches in the conference are competent. Winning in the Big Ten is not easy. Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, and UW are 6-2. USC is 5-2. All of these teams have looked terrific on occasion and terrible at other times. All could be ranked, including Nebraska, with a win over top 25 Cincinnati. Compare the number of two-loss teams ranked in the SEC compared to the B1G. Texas and Alabama had tough games against unranked teams yesterday. Ole Miss and Oklahoma had several breakdowns in defense yesterday amid questionable coaching decisions. MO vs. Vandy was far from dandy.🤪 The SEC has many teams ranked in the preseason. Thus, many games are 'self-fulfilling' top 25 vs. top 25 matchups. The SEC is deeper than the Big Ten, although this was not evident in last year's postseason. OBD will likely drop in today's AP Poll, which doesn't matter. It will be interesting to see how the PO committee treats the teams, including 7-1 OBD, on the fourth of November. Come the 7th of December, it will be infamy if OBD is not in the top eight and hosting an opening game. Iowa had a Gophers sack fest yesterday. The week before, Minnesota sacked Dylan Riola so many times he looked like he was in a grocery store checkout line. In particular, a young team will not be the same team week after week. The B1G test for Dan and friends this week and next is to win the bye week over a group of experienced coaches who will have the benefit of playing on their home field. Kirk Ferentz is 130-59 in Kinnick Stadium, .687. I'm hoping for better weather on November 8th in Iowa City. Win the Bye Week! GO DUCKS!
