Coaching Carousels
With JMU in the hunt for the G6 12th seed, I think Chesney will wait until he knows whether JMU is in or out. I have no idea, based on performance, why anyone thinks Kiffin is worth $14 million a season. More than Kirby Smart, Ryan Day, and Dabo, who have won championships. Kiffen had Ole Miss on the cusp of the PO last season, and his team choked at Florida. This season, Ole Miss had the SEC's 5th easiest conference schedule and played dog meat out of conference. Kiffin won a conference championship at G5 FAU, and that's it. He is not a great recruiter. His rosters at Ole Miss have been built on players from the portal. With Kiffin noting in his pre-Egg Bowl press conference that today's players care about money and not who their coach is, I think he's off to Florida or LSU. Don't blame me for leaving. If the players don't care about who is coaching them, why should I stick around Oxford town?🤬 The Ole Miss AD has said the program will match any salary offers. If he's smart, which is debatable, he'll stick around. He'll have a two-year haven't won a Natty yet grace period at LSU and perhaps three years at Florida. I believe better coaches will be hired for less money. Including Tulane coach Jon Sumrall, who will be hired to replace Kiffin if Lane heads down the lane. 😁

Lanning Interviewed by Canzano
For Canzano, the emphasis is "look who I got for my show" as opposed to content - sometimes which can be silly. Not sure why Lanning decided to make time - and it's not just the 20 minute interview, more time is required - during game week preparation. A couple times he even looked like silly questions were an irritant. It's not the first time he's been down that road with Oprah Canzano.

Lanning Interviewed by Canzano
Isn’t the essence of a great interview putting the focus on the subject while the person asking the questions fades into the background? Like a well-officiated basketball game, you don’t notice the referees.

In my opinion the conference champ game is a waste of time.

I'm Rooting For Ohio State...
Not a fan of this, I'm afraid, as it would penalize the two strongest conferences: B1G and SEC. The second best team in each would be out with a loss, giving a pass to at large and potentially weaker ACC and B12 teams. Last year PSU deserved to be in the CFP even though they lost to Oregon in the B1G CG. Different matter if the loser already had enough losses to need to win to get in, but I imagine that wouldn't be the case for the Power 2 most years.

Lanning Interviewed by Canzano
I know, I know, you think Conzano is a Beaver honk, so you turn off at the sight of his name. I don't. Been a John Conzano subscriber for years, ignoring any perceived loyalties, and just enjoying an experienced sports news guy who has a heart. This interview, linked below, I hope, shows why Conzano is one of the most outstanding communicators in sports today. Enjoy! https://open.substack.com/pub/johncanzano/p/canzano-dan-lanning-says-he-never?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email

North Texas HC Eric Morris is moving on and up and will be on the sidelines when OBD visits Stillwater in 2026. I expect he will bring many Mean Green players along with him. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/oklahoma-state-eric-morris-coach-north-texas-mike-gundy/?ftag=SNL-04-10aaa0b&ET_CID=493117&ET_RID=52482716

Yikes! Oregon Beat by San Diego State 97-80
That was painful to watch. It seems these players lack confidence. They can't seem to get the ball inside, and when they do they often can't finish. I heard Altman said "we can't guard our own shadow". Maybe a little harsh, but how else do you explain a team shooting nearly 70% against you? All the fast break dunks? Yikes. It feels like they've taken a step backwards. I can't deny Dana's success, but one might wonder if the modern game with the portal and NIL has passed him by.

Yeah, we all know about the piddly jobs open like LSU, Florida, and Penn State. Virginia Tech got the ten win man with Franklin, no Ohio State, Michigan, or Oregon to worry about in the ACC. Oklahoma State got the other Morris(not Chad). UCLA is looking for a Kenny Chesney song. But who is going to take the jobs at Beavis, and Woo Piggie?

Screw all this debating about teams, let the fans vote! Each vote costs a dollar and the top 12 vote getters are in! (Also the vote money goes into my bank account!) Make it like dancing with the stars! It is not about the best team, its about the most popular team anyway. I am joking, but I could see this happening years down the road. Remember the movie Idiocracy?

If you play Alabama in the first round, or Georgia, should they lose to Tech and still get in. Beat the Finebaum out of them please.

How Will Stein Messes With Defenders
That was a great explanation. I hadn't noticed Dante pivoting right side when it was live. Though it also looked like USuC linebacker #18 was bored on the play. I have never seen our Bryce Boetcher chase down a play with such a lackluster effort.

Oregon Football: The X-Factor Vs. Washington
This game has me worried a bit. This is Washington's super bowl this year and their players and fans will be ready. It's a rivalry game and if Oregon is not mentally prepared for this environment after the USC game, we may see some stunned looks on the sidelines. I'm excited, because this may be our best apples to apples to comparison with Ohio State so far this year. I want us to look impressive and stay ahead of Ole Miss in the CFP rankings and maybe leap frog Texas Tech. There's an outside shot BIG still finishes 1-2-3 in the final rankings heading into the CFP. This happens when Texas beats Texas A&M, Alabama beats Georgia again in the SEC title game, B1G Championship is very close, and Texas Tech trips up.

I get head to head has to matter, but it can't be absolute. Miami squeaked by Notre Dame with a 3 point win, even though ND had 2 TOs vs none to Miami. That isn't total dominance. Massey SOS Miami 50 Notre Dame 29 ESPN SOS Miami 48 Notre Dame 34 ESPN FPI Miami 10 (19.0) Notre Dame 3 (24.9) ESPN SP+ Miami 11 (20.2) Notre Dame 5 (24.3) Every computer score says Notre Dame is the better team over Miami. If Miami had won by 14+, then it is a different story.

CFP Rankings 11/25 - Oregon at No. 6
One example. Massey Rankings Oregon SOS No. 20. Texas Tech's SOS is ranked 51st by Massey. The Committee's metrics cannot be that much different than Massey's. The Massey rankings take every meaningful CFB stat into play, except perhaps for the color of the Red Raiders' socks.😁 This is not a Playoff. It is bowl extrvaganza owned and operated by a media entity. The CBB Committee throughout the season lets fans know the quality of wins and losses across 4 quadrants. But they have one top 16 sneak peek before 'judgement day' and that's it; not a six week sideshow. I sense support for the Big Ten's PO format growing.

How Will Stein Messes With Defenders
Great example of what the pistol can and should do. It's about deception and flexibility. The Cristobal version used it like the spread offense version of the i-formation which it isn't. The pistol under Cristobal was predictable... It always sent the runner into the A-gap in a power run... But unlike the i-formation the runner is even farther back and the defense knowing it's coming could send someone around the side to stop the run from behind. Love seeing the pistol under Stein because it is a wild card... The play could go anywhere.

Oregon Football: The X-Factor Vs. Washington
Though Matayo's sacks are down from last year, I believe his TFL's are on par. For PFF fans, he actually grades higher this season. The pass rush this year seems to be better at creating a cage and squeezing in than last year's team. Last year, we saw edge rushers often get too far upfield and allow the QB to leak out of pressure laterally. While that may mean fewer sacks, it is also true that most teams are trying to release the ball before the sack gets home. Better to contain and get hands up to tip passes than to over pursue and leave escape lanes.

Yikes! Oregon Beat by San Diego State 97-80
I'd like to hear what the players have to say about their performance, and how they feel about representing the University of Oregon. Just curious.

I completely disagree. Oregon’s strength of schedule is rated higher than all those teams and our only loss is to #2 Indiana. Coach Lanning does not care about margin of victory. He is perfectly content to put the 3/4s in the 4th quarter or play a low scoring slugfest, if that’s what’s called for.
