Lanning Sends a Strong Message by AVOIDING the Portal
Thank you, Stevan A., for a terrific take. The Sandy Koufax-like title curveball had me getting up off the deck to finish the read. I think OL portal picking will be essential heading into 2026. What an amazing job to have an OL with four new starters up for the Joe Moore Award, and for the backups to play like starters when needed. From Saint Nick to Urban Meyer, on down, football folks consider the OL position the most challenging to recruit. A number of this season's epic fails, Clemson, Penn State, and LSU, came down to inferior OL play. What OBD's coaches have done this season with 14 new starters is terrific. Younger coaches on staff have earned the right to move on up. Thanks for giving our new OC, DC, and HC deserved and earned acclaim. If Dan Lanning hasn't earned the trust of Oregon fans by now, I guess he'll have to double-dip in Miami and finish 15-1 with a title in hand. Going PO 4-0 will take a win over the Sun Belt champion, the B12 champion, and possibly the Big Ten and SEC champions, or one of the Power 2 champs and the defending champ. WHEW! Devastate the Dukes!

Lanning Sends a Strong Message by AVOIDING the Portal
If they make the return trip to Miami for the champ game, it will be the Ducks 16th game of the season: JMU, Orange Bowl vs Texas Tech, Peach Bowl, odds on to play Indiana, 2nd game OBD would play in Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, odds on to play Ohio State or Georgia. Spot on that OBD will need to go 15-1 to win the Natty.

Lanning Sends a Strong Message by AVOIDING the Portal
At the end of the article Steven mentioned, I hope the Ducks win 14 games this season. I would prefer 15, so the Ducks win the title, not just make the title game. 🙂

Really setting up the launch of the new PAC well. Bunch of teams that can’t compete with the P4 and can’t stop suing everyone…sounds amazing! 😂

When there is a slow news cycle? Probably not... But the off season is fast approaching and we'll soon all be hungry for things to talk about.

Utah HC WHIT is Retiring
I always respected this guy and his teams. I heard this Alabama lineman (an All-American) tell a story about playing Utah in one of the New Years Day bowls in a year after the Tide had won the Natty. He said Coach Saban didn't like the way they were practicing leading up to the game telling them "You better be getting your heads on straight or this man's team will kick your rear-ends!" They scoffed, went to the game, and got their rear-ends kicked. I think it is likely Whit would succeed In Ann Arbor but believe he is really retiring.

2026 Football Schedule
The last pre-expansion schedule was announced in August for seasons prior to the West Coast Four. Then, it was revised January 12, 2022 for seasons thru 2025. Obviously that didn't last long either because later in 2022 the Big announced USC & UCLA would be joining in 2024. Wilner believes the closer it gets to Christmas, the more likely it will be announced in January 2026. The B1G has more network affiliations to satisfy than the SEC so that's another reason it is taking longer. Though, the Big12 has announced their opponent matrix but has not announced the dates...similar to what B1G has done.

2026 Football Schedule
No idea, Lonnie. The B1G has delayed the release of the game dates. Perhaps as part of the all-sports scheduling review, designed, in part, to cut down on travel. I have zero inside information, but it would not surprise me to see adjustments to the permanent opponents list, with the Pac-12 legacy schools playing one another every season. A change in permanent opponents would mean a change in next season's schedule and the other schedules that run through 2028. In 2026, OBD is scheduled to make two trips to the Eastern time zone to play Ohio State and Michigan State, and a trip to the Central time zone to play Illinois. USC's 2026 schedule seems designed to give Troy an excuse to kiss Notre Dame goodbye. Three trips to the Eastern time zone to play Indiana, Penn State, and Rutgers, plus a trip to Wisconsin. I'm waiting for the game dates to be revealed to see if OBD has another Minnesota situation, a Saturday game two or more time zones away from Eugene, followed by a Friday night home game vs. a team with the prior Saturday off. I can find no CFB site with information on when the game dates will be released.

Dan Lanning Approaching Key Coaching Milestone
Fun fact: Oregon has a long history of coaches lasting well beyond five seasons and has had some of the longest tenures across multiple PAC eras and the B1G. Pretty sure this is an editing hiccup, not a history lesson.
