  2. Marines in 1966 - 2-year 'time out?' My Forum Friend, I am happy you are alive to witness Oregon's success. On behalf of my brother, a Marine who slogged through rice paddies and the jungle in 1967 and 1968, Semper Fi!
  3. I'm waiting for tomorrow's schedule review to make my prediction. Hate to do it, but I have to agree with the Men of Troy - Notre Dame has done NOTHING to deserve this PO perk. https://trojanswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/trojans/football/2026/01/26/new-college-football-playoff-format-notre-dame-advantage/88344740007/?utm_source=smg-trojanswire-strada&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=SMGb
  4. 2025 season competitor byes...it was really a UO/UW issue: Byes before playing Oregon Penn State Indiana – Ducks also had a bye Iowa – Ducks also had a bye Minnesota (and, Oklahoma State played Thursday prior week) Byes before playing the Huskies Ohio State Maryland Rutgers Illinois Wisconsin – Huskies also had a bye Byes before playing USC & UCLA? One each. Both were Northwestern.
  5. Wilner Commissioner Tony Petitti and his lieutenants heard loudly and clearly the frustrations expressed over imbalances in preparation time — specifically, the frequency with which Washington, Oregon, UCLA and USC played opponents coming off byes. For the West Coast quartet, byes were atop the list. Oregon coach Dan Lanning addressed the unequal preparation time on several occasions last season. Washington, which faced five opponents that had extra time, was known to be irked, as well. The issue should be largely, if not entirely resolved with the 2026 conference schedule — not because the Big Ten overhauled its approach but because of the same issue that caused the problem in the first place: the competition calendar. Because Week 1 is hooked to Labor Day weekend and the holiday comes late this year (Sept. 7), the regular season covers just 13 Saturdays, whereas the 2024 and 2025 seasons spanned 14. That slight change makes all the difference when it comes to the number of times a given team will face opponents coming off byes. In a 14-week season, there are two byes per team. In a 13-week season, there is one. There are 36 instances in which teams are coming off byes in a 14-week season and only 18 instances in a 13-week season. The 50 percent reduction should limit the instances in which Washington, Oregon, USC and UCLA face far-flung, well-rested opponents.
  6. A couple will get slotted in pretty early. Most won't until a week or two before the game itself. Butt here are always a few marque games in the first half of the season that get some early scheduled time slots. I think Oregon v Penn State had a time slot pretty quickly. Michigan and Ohio State will be at noon. That sort of thing.
  7. Based on the opponent rotation created three years ago, USC plays each of the other West Coast schools in 2026. Same for Oregon. Washington and UCLA miss each other, but both play the Trojans and Ducks.
  8. On Tuesday, the date of games will be revealed. It is unlikely there will be any kickoff times revealed this early.

  11. FOOTBALL - Tuesday, 1/27/26 - The B1G 2026 Football Schedule Reveal - Big Ten Network (BTN) 5:30 Eastern, 2:30 Pacific I love Oregon 123's post. What's your prediction for Ducks football in 2026? We know that OBD will play Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern, UCLA, and UW in Autzen Stadium. Oregon's 2026 Big Ten road games have Oregon playing at Ohio State, USC, Illinois, and Michigan State. As it should be every season IMO, in 2026, OBD plays all three of its once-upon-a-time Pac-12 playmates. Tomorrow, we'll learn the dates the games will be played. I've deferred answering Oregon 123's question until we know the date of the games and the week Oregon will be idle. Only 13 weeks in the 2026 season, and only one off week. Fingers crossed for OBD's nap to come in Week Five, Six, or Seven. BASKETBALL - Not the best of seasons for Oregon basketball, but many of the men's and women's CBB teams are ranked. Four of the Men's teams are ranked in the AP top 10 - No. 3 Michigan, No. 5 Nebraska, 24 wins in a row, 20-0 this season, No. 7 Michigan State, and No. 9 Illinois. 1/27/26 - No. 5 Nebraska at No. 3 Michigan - One of the B1Ggest CBB games of the season to date, and B1G HQ has again set things up perfectly to keep the B1G Light under the Bushel. 7:00 PM Eastern, 4 PM Pacific - Only available on Peacock. 🤬 The media geniuses at B1G HQ definitely deserve The Bird. I'd wager that the OBD at the Ohio State game will be kicking off at 9 AM Pacific, with a good chance of playing Michigan in the late game the week before
  12. If this was the 4 team playoff the Ducks would've had one game with who knows who in a hopefully a decent bowl game but that's it. Instead they got 3 playoff games. The fans and the players got a 3 game extension for the season. To me this was the funnest Duck season yet. Playing teams we didn't used to play in stadiums we'd never see back in the P12. I can remember when the Ducks would break into the top 25. That was a big moment. Then the next week they'd lose and never see the top 25 again and be fighting to make a bowl game. Times have changed for the better for this Duck fan.
  13. I couldn't agree more David. I've mentioned several of these points in previous comments, but your overall perspective is great. Success is winning a whole bunch of games and making the playoffs. Anytime you make it deeper into the playoffs than the year before it's a success, and if you don't make it as far the next year it can feel like a step back. I was a Jumper in track and field. I just did long and triple jump, but not high jump, partially because it took forever, but also I hated finishing by missing the bar 3 times in a row. Needless to say, for me finishing the season with a loss is a very sharp side of the double edged sword of the playoffs.
  14. Success when you spend millions on NIL deals redefines how much patience boosters have with their win/loss record. Top coaches are paid almost $1 million a month to win. Excuses for a coach having an average team revolve around money. At least money is not given to players in a brown paper bag anymore. The game has changed. I will enjoy what it has become, but it does seem some semblance of sanity is needed to save our precious billionaires from themselves.

  16. Yeah, kinda glad they lost without Nix. But what a shame that Nix doesn't get to play in the Championship games!
  17. Great insight, David. It makes complete sense that making the playoff now is the new bowl season. Think about the 4-team PO days, it only mattered if one mad it to the PO or the other 5 major bowls, so that's 8 games and 16 teams. Before the 4-team PO, it was just the Natty and 5 bowls, so that's 6 games and 12 teams. So we are really just shuffling the post-season around, plus a dusting of all the crazy money-driven NIL/Portal fun...
  18. Mid-morning temperatures are right around 48 degrees way down here in South Georgia. We are going to have a low tonight neighboring somewhere around 22 degrees! That’s getting pretty cold for this neck of the woods! No snow in the forecast though, snow is very rare this far south. Although we surprisingly had a few days last winter that dropped about 10” on us and it stayed cold enough for it to build up and stay awhile. You wouldn’t believe the chaos that it caused for people down here.😂 Folks down here just don’t know a thing about dealing with snow. Seriously, just driving around at that time was quite the challenge for many of my neighbors!😂 I’m not minding it so much, I sometimes miss the cold weather. I lived and worked in Canada for years so cold weather is something that I’m very familiar with. I even miss the snow sometimes, except for the shoveling and cleaning it off of my truck every morning. What I don’t miss is the ice! I had no idea all of the troubles that an ice storm can bring with it, heck I’d never even much heard of an ice storm. I was educated during my first winter in Canada! Luckily I moved up there in the Spring and had made some friends before that first winter. My new friends took me under their wing that first winter, otherwise I would not have been prepared or known at all what to expect. It was one of those things that literally goes along with the saying “you just don’t know what you don’t know”.
  19. Yes indeed, in 2026 (and beyond) with where we are as a program, it’s playoff or bust every year. That’s the equivalent of making a major bowl. Within that framework, I think it is a relative scale. In 2025 I think getting a playoff win was the bar, so going 2-1 in the tourney was definitely a success given the expectations. 2026 on the other hand, given what we have on the roster at the moment, anything short of a competitive championship game appearance would probably not be a success. At the very least a final 4 appearance where we are competitive. Getting boat raced in the semis would be an unsuccessful season next year imo.
  20. It's going to be a little bit chilly for us today -- about 71° for a high. It's actually a frigid 37° this morning, but with the wind chill, it's down all the way to 35°.

  22. I grew up in Eugene, attended the U of O, started as a Frosh in 1966, time out for 2 yrs in the US Marine Corps, then graduated in 1972. For me, anytime the Ducks win more than they lose is a successful season! The Chip Kelly and now the Dan Lanning eras are dreams never thought possible 50 years ago. 12 and 13 wins in a season outstanding. Beating the Huskies and the Trojans regularly, fantastic! The younger version of me, "Who woulda thunk?" This Duck is living on cloud nine!
  23. This article inspires one to think internally. Well done! If you make the playoffs, 11 teams end their season with a bad taste in their mouth with a loss. I was disappointed with the shellacking, it was down right comical. But, we were 2-1 in the Natty run. Splattered JMU and muddled TT. Nearly every 1st stringer is coming back and we are loaded with upper class men. 2025 was a roaring success. I’m not going to let Cignettis one off, probably never happen again, define how good Oregon played this year with basically no continuity. Next year already feels like a brotherhood of old men is forming. ….final thought, let’s just be done and get to the 16 team playoff already. And force ND into a conference. (PERIOD!)
  24. Aguirre to NC State (his brother is on the roster there).
  25. College Football has seen a monumental shift in the last two years with the expansion to the 12-team playoff. It should come as a surprise to no one at this point that this change has completely redefined what it means for a team to have a successful season. Even in the four-team playoff era there was always a sense that ... The Expanded Playoff is Redefining Success
  26. He's a legacy Duck, that might carry the weight to keep him there long enough to start. My point was more inline with the fact that a player like Akili might be poached before Lanning feels comfortable enough to start him. I imagine Moore is starting this upcoming year, and Raiola the year after. A similar thing happened at Georgia Tech. Aaron Philo was being groomed to be the incumbent, but he transferred out to Florida. Now that's a unique situation, because his offensive coordinator moved on to Florida. But, I can see situations like this continue to happen as assistants and coaches move from job to job. Duke , Vanderbilt, and Kentucky are now paying QBs north of four million a year. It's pure madness right now. An established power like Oregon will have their pick in the transfer portal. Every year is win now, especially with Phil Knight in his 80's. Will Oregon pay seven million to a guy like Mendoza, Mensah, Beck, Leavitt, Sorsby, or Simpson, or five million to keep an unproven guy with heaps of potential and hype like Smith Jr. ? If things were like it is now in 2007, I could see Tebow getting passed over. So I really hope I'm wrong. Winning a championship with homegrown players just feels better. But winning a championship feels great regardless.
  27. I get what your saying Gat but if Akili Smith Jr is anything like his dad, he could be one of the all time great Duck QBs. He was the number three player drafted in I believe 1998.
