Bit of a Chuckle: USC Safety Bishop Fitzgerald Made Some Enemies When Talking About the Ducks
I'd say we often smile at Trojan comments. Oh wait... laughing. We often laugh at Trojan comments. My bad there.

Understanding NIL reporting
From my understanding the media gets these numbers at times through connections and people inside these collectives. As of right now there is no formal reporting out there for amount paid. Last season the number that seemed to be fairly accurate for Ohio State was about 20 million for their entire team. A ton of money for sure. But when Gundy is throwing out Oregon is paying 40 mil for our team this year that is completely outlandish and he is throwing a number out there. Some commentators who I feel have a good idea for these things just said that number was wildly off by millions. The reality is that we don't know and those who do know are the people who run the NIL collectives. They don't need to release their numbers and as a result they don't. I'd imagine Oregon is probably around 4th or 5th in terms of overall spending. We spend for sure, but we aren't throwing money around like some programs. It was reported that we actually had an NIL offer slightly lower than Texas for Dakorian Moore. I don't remember the number anymore and are any of these numbers accurate? I don't know but it's all we have to work off of for now.

Dan Lanning Offers Explanation on why Makhi Hughes had Such a Limited Work Load
Sometimes people pick things up at different speeds. Also... I am sure the freshman have a limited playbook of their own. I think Dan wanted to give them some real reps in the game. Montana State was going to be a great opportunity for them to get their feet wet and figure out some of their niche roles. Davidson is going to be seeing the field as a power back in short yardage situations so getting him some early season reps will be key to making that more successful. Whittington as the lead back for Oregon still only had 10 carries on the day. Yes, Hughes had only one but it's not like we had a back out there taking 20+ reps. We'll have to wait and see how Hughes emerges for this team. One thing is for sure at this point... if you're a runningback don't come to Oregon if you want to be a feature back. 2024 was really the exception of the Lanning era where James was that feature back. In all the other seasons there were at least 2-3 backs that played a major role. Looks like they are going back to that. 2022 - Irving, Whittington and James 2023 - Irving and James (Whittington injured) 2024 - James (some Whittington but no where near close in terms of carries) 2025 - Whittington and who else?

The Meltdown in Alabama is EPIC
Great post, but even with a 'flattened out' field, one of the usual suspects, a team in the PO committee's top 6 in its final poll, will win the 2025-26 Natty. And this time, the team ranked 6th will not be the 8-seed. ASU could have and should have, but for a not-called targeting penalty, defeated Texas in the 2nd PO round. But would ASU have won two more games to win it all? Until it happens, the Usual Suspects, plus move-over OBD, with the resources and Dan to capitalize on the same, will win it all. More than ever, capital in CFB counts and then some.

The Meltdown in Alabama is EPIC
That and a ton of 5 and 6th year guys that Chris Petersen recruited. There is a trend post COVID season. Teams while the oldest rosters were the ones that seemed to win the national title or get closest to it. Those rosters that maintained the old guys for that extra year had the best chance of winning it all. Michigan and Washington make the case... Both rosters were LOADED with 5th and 6th year guys. The Georgia teams that won back to back national titles were loaded with senior talent. This is the last year of the covid shirt... And things might just break wide open because the amount of players who are still from the COVID era is super small now.

I'd say no to both. Cristobal does have a sense of loyalty. He refused to interview for the Miami job when it came open the first time while at Oregon. Yeah, he ran for the job the second time but it's his dream job. He has the program going the way he wants and I would be shocked if he ditched it for Bama. And as for Sark... At this time I think Texas might be more talented than Bama. He has the donors and all the NIL he could ever want. He's built his program so why start over? What makes the Bama job so good is that it has the resources but does does every other major program. What's the difference between Bama and Texas right now? Only the expectation to be as good as Nick Saban at Bama. I'm not sure Nick Saban could meet their standards anymore. The field has flattened out at the top.

Dan Lanning Offers Explanation on why Makhi Hughes had Such a Limited Work Load
How good is he at blocking??? Maybe he is so good at running that the previous two years he was utilized so much in spite of lack of development in that area??? I actually assume he knows how to block, but the fact is, I don't know.

The Meltdown in Alabama is EPIC
What I'm wondering about is... How will a bad year affect the current recruiting class? Oregon and Alabama are "tied" with 5 - 5*s apiece. If DL can flip one of those 5*s, Oregon will be in undisputed first place for them. How much in a twist would THAT put the Alabama fans in?????

The Meltdown in Alabama is EPIC
Mike, an old coach-player colloquium updated for the modern era of CFB. Coach: Son, you've been in this program for years and have never come close to living up to your potential. Is it because of an Intelligence Quotient failure or abject apathy? Player: Coach, I have my dough, so I don't know, and I don't care. 😁 As noted above, Saban bailed for a reason. When the only over-the-table money came from the NFL, no matter what your incoming number of stars, players balled out. Today, you recruit players with competitive zeal, with the love of the game, no matter the money, or the effort may not be there. How would I have handled being 17 or 18 with millions of dollars in the bank: 🤪! It's not just Bama losing that was so out of Saint Nick's Bama team's character; it was the lack of effort and being smash-mouthed in the process. We saw this movie last season vs. Vandy, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Michigan, four teams that on paper shouldn't have had a chance. Perhaps Bama runs the table, or at least loses only one more game, and makes the PO with a win or two? I don't see it.

I don't care how tall they are, QB can't get it to them from his back.

Maybe they can swap buy-outs with sc. Do they know that Penix doesn't have any eligibility left? Cuz that is what made ewe dub the two years he was there.

The Meltdown in Alabama is EPIC
A major lack of desire. They didn't look like they were interested in defending their legacy, much less put a foot up FSU's behind for talking smack before the season started. They expected to walk in and dominate, and when FSU was taking it to them, they didn't respond. It took a late fumble for them to get back in the game, and when their defense started putting in effort, it didn't last when FSU responded (FSU wanted that win way more-it was totally evident the entire game).

The Meltdown in Alabama is EPIC
Seems to me that in all sports theres a lot of players that are ranked high at a lower level but when they get with the higher level players certain truths come out.

Never follow a coaching legend. Unless, they pay you $10 million/year, with a $70 million buyout….lol

Too much early money makes "desire" too difficult to motivate. They already getting paid.

Dan Lanning Offers Explanation on why Makhi Hughes had Such a Limited Work Load
I really doubt true freshman know the playbook better than Hughes. Probably a disciplinary issue.
-
Dan Lanning Offers Explanation on why Makhi Hughes had Such a Limited Work Load
Probably because he was brought in and paid a lot of money. He thought he had it made and when he didn't automatically get it he pouted a little bit but not enough to get suspended and this was kind of a lesson. I cannot imagine he is so bad as to only get a couple of chances.

Dan Lanning Offers Explanation on why Makhi Hughes had Such a Limited Work Load
I read elsewhere that Lanning said Hughes was in for run play calls, then QB Moore checked out of the run play to a pass play due to defensive alignment. Perhaps that makes sense if Montana State was aligning on defense for a run once they saw Hughes substitute in. The Ducks had 39 rush attempts for 253 yds, 25 pass attempts (19 completions) for 253 yds. Don't have the down and distance prior to Whittington's 10 rush attempts, or Hughes 1 attempt.

Transfer receivers add punch to Cowboy passing attack, a trail by fire for the DucksMontana State slot receiver Taco Dowler called the Ducks "the fastest team I've ever played," after losing 59-13 in Autzen Stadium, yet Dowler burned the Ducks for 12 receptions for 107 yards, a long of 24. "Fastest team I've ever played," Dowler said in the postgame. "It is different. There are levels to this. We came to compete, but they are ridiculously athletic. Fast or not, the Ducks have to tighten up their coverage scheme on those crossing routes, beginning with better recognition and tracking from the underneath defenders. Dowler gave them fits, even though the score was never in doubt. The Ducks led 31-0 before the Bobcats made a first down. In Week Two Oklahoma State represents a different challenge, though oddsmakers expect a similar result. The Ducks are a 28.5-point favorite at FanDuel. As a Power 4 team the Cowboys are bigger in the trenches and a diferent level of physical test, though they give up so much talent to Oregon that Mike Gundy began the week lobbying for schedule reform, insisting that Oregon ought to play teams on its own level financially. Dan Lanning Offers Explanation on why Makhi Hughes had Such a Limited Work Load
Puzzling to be sure, I get the managed reps thing but Penn State is less than a month away and I would think game time reps in this system would be pretty important before then. That said, damn we got a stable of backs with or without Hughes.

The Meltdown in Alabama is EPIC
I think boosters at Bama, as evidenced by DeBoer's recruiting, are willing to open the wallet and are not the problem. Bama is the No. 2-ranked team in 247 Sports Composite Roster Rankings. There is no lack of talent in Tuscaloosa, but a lack of desire?

The Meltdown in Alabama is EPIC
Is the smartest guy in CFB the TOSU QB who bailed from Bama at the same time as Saint Nick? Just Sayin. 😁 I need to add Caleb (I Don't Give Up 1st) Downs. And Michigan found Justice in RB Haynes.

Dan Lanning Offers Explanation on why Makhi Hughes had Such a Limited Work Load
That really was not an answer, but a coachspeak deflection from what is reality...of which we do not know. Could he be dinged up? Possible, but it that worth hiding? Could it be that he is not as good as hoped? I doubt that as well, so I have no idea what is going on.
