Dan Lanning not taking ride on coaching carousel: 'This will be my spot forever' With no Alabama job available, Dan Lanning's name hasn't been bandied about as much in coaching discussions the past two years. But on ESPN's "College GameDay" in front of the Oregon crowd, he did his darndest to take his name off the table entirely. Talking to the "GameDay" cast, Lanning did not mince words when he was asked by Pat McAfee why his name wasn't being tied with the plethora of jobs available. "Because the grass is damn green, Pat," Lanning said, beaming. "I ain't going anywhere. I love this place. You gotta be able to appreciate what you have. And I appreciate what I have here so much. This will be my spot forever. And grateful for that."

That was Josh Pate's prediction, Oregon playing it's best game of the year. It's a bummer that both DAK and Bryant are out but its not like they are a last minute scratch. Benson, Lowe and JMac are solid, have made great catches in previous games and have been working together the past few weeks. Sadiq is essentially a super-size WR that can beat you deep or knock you out of your shoes. He is more than a load for any LB and can smoke most safeties. Saleapaga and JJohn can block and catch so 13 formation is a very viable option in passing situations with multiple threats. Unanimous nods from the ESPN crew makes sense and Oregon should be ok.

I was surprised, but all five picked Oregon to win, and both Nick Saban and Kirk Herbstreit expressed respect for the USC offense, but felt that the Oregon defense had enough of an edge to prevail. Is that a great confidence boost, or the ultimate curse?

Except in my mind this is a playoff game. Ducks will likely be without DAK, Bryant and Stewart today. And while Benson and J Mac continue to impress, it would really be nice to have two of the three injure guys on the field against a SC team that has lots of firepower.

Jordan, well written, well thought thru, well presented deep dive into this game and the teams. Basically, well done. You covered all the aspects needed for a Duck victory. If WS hadn't lost his mind, lost his direction and lost OBD's offensive identity in the 4th quarter against IU, well OBD's may very well be undeafeated. Since that painful loss WS has run the dang ball to wear down our opponents front 7 and open up the passing game. There is very little Troy can do to stop the run game. The trenches and clean play will settle this issue and leave no doubt in the minds of the CFP outdated and not needed committee! Go Ducks
