Holy Crap! Indiana was ASTOUNDING
I'll have to politely disagree with Lanning teams playing to the opponent's level. I think they do it less than just about anybody else. Especially Mario Cristobal.

Our Beloved Ducks: Not Quite Ready for 'Natty Time?
I think the coaching chess match between PSU and Oregon already started. PSU has been vanilla on offense. I also feel like Oregon gave PSU even less to look at this week than prior weeks. I even think Mixon hardly playing was our attempt to get PSU to forget about him so he can give Allar serious trouble. I feel like this will be a game that if you could repeat it multiple times you could get very different results. We'll play the game and players are going do what they do good or bad. Mistakes from the less experienced players are going to happen. Stein has to bring a plan that can succeed against Knowles' typical approach to suffocating our efficient short game. Lupoi has to do something different to shore up the run defense enough to get PSU off the field. I mean load up the box and force Allar and his WRs to beat our secondary consistently.

Other Games...GameDay Thread: Let's Discuss!
It feels like Texas Tech is going to put the game away here early in the 4th quarter, unless a miracle happens. Utah just can't do anything explosive in offense.

The Crumbling OSUs...
oregonliveOregon State Beavers mailbag: Is it time to abandon footb...Some spice and cynicism in the reader questions this week.https://www.oklahoman.com/story/sports/college/cowboys/2025/09/19/oklahoma-state-tulsa-game-score-updates-highlights-college-football/86243196007/ I watched the condensed version of the Tulsa game. The score does not reflect how much Tulsa dominated OSU. I knew they were bad, but they are worse than bad. Getting embarrassed by your runt little bro at home for the first time in 70 years is next level down stuff. I don't expect Gundy to survive the weekend let alone the week.

Bowman Decommits
Any commitment from a player that has never even visited the campus is about as firm as a bowl full of Jell-O.

Playing for the Platypus
The Beavers don't have to worry about that this year.

You're Dan Lanning: What Do YOU Want From Oregon on Saturday?
No second half targeting penalties for the two deep.

Which is Worse: A Bye or Beavis?
I think a bye does more harm than good for us right now. We've been playing so many different players, I'd be surprised if the average number of snaps for starters is even half a game. Hopefully Oregon State will be another spread the wealth game, where everyone gets a chance to get some reps and keep their chops fresh. There is more risk with a bye to come out flat. Is it possible for PSU to come out slow for a white out game? It's possible. They could bring their emotions but still have their focus be absent, playing sloppy.

You're Dan Lanning: What Do YOU Want From Oregon on Saturday?
Starters need to take care of business and come out fast and focused, so we can pull them at halftime. That way they will be rested without being rusty. PSU has a bye week after all. Consider utilizing a gameplay completely the opposite of what you want to do vs. PSU. PSU will be watching this game closely.

Duck Hunting for Articles on Dakorien Moore's Injury
If true they will just rest him for this game. And it wont matter. I'm not sure we even need to pass because their run defense is putrid.

Dark Knight vs Whiteout: Oregon vs Penn State
Guys, the Whiteout is only the fans wearing white. The players wear their traditional dark navy tops they always wear for home games. We will be in typical away game white outfits.

More Surprises: Oregon Linebacker Jerry Mixon...Big-10 Defensive Player of the Week?
What a boost he has been to the defense!

Foster Out at UCLA; Pry at Va Tech
Since this is a career ending job, they need to be targeting a different demographic of coaches. A good head coach near retirement that always wanted to live in SoCal.

Oregon Ducks’ New-look Uniforms for Oregon State Honor Phil Knight
GOLD? Never seen that color on the ducks. It's disorienting. We look like UCF. Reminds me how the Webfoot unis were blue and made us look like Cal. I'm kind of glad we are wearing these for this game that nobody will be watching except Oregonians.

The Ducks Have a Problem with Run Defense
Charles OMG on the GIF..anyways..y is a loss I think it's a bit cat and mouse with the DL getting skinny trying to get into the backfield to be disruptive vs staying low and stonewalling and hogging OL at the LOS. We are really good at the former but not so great at the latter. If the other team can get 4-6 yards a carry, but every 3rd carry is a loss then maybe it's still worth it

A Little Duck Humor at the Expense of the BEAVERS
Beavers are a special animal. Their ability to terraform land is second to none. Studies have shown the most effective solution to increase plant life and wetland in threatened habitats is to leave the construction equipment at home and just drop off a pair of beavers.

Poor Rushing Defense: How Realistic Are We?
Jordon Scott may have been the most important defender on the 2019 defense, the way he could seemingly stonewall 3 OL at once and swipe away the ball from the center before it got to the QB at key moments. Definitely an unsung hero. We definitely don't have one of those guys on our team this year, 330+ with a low center of gravity and strong as an ox.

Poor Rushing Defense: How Realistic Are We?
Everyone knows I hate the saying "we beat ourselves", but NW really did stop their own drives with costly mistakes if you go back and rewatch their drives. Dan Lanning mentioned this in the post game talk with the media. The counter to that is your team is really good if the other team has to play flawless to hang around, but they REALLY jacked up their opportunities to make this game VERY uncomfortable for us through halftime.

No penalties in a game, the first since 2000 per the telecast. They may have lacked intensity, but you can't sleepwalk to a zero penalty game.

Rise of the Fake 6th Man
There were no stands filled with fans behind our bench against Northwestern today, yet it was really difficult for the coaches and players to communicate on our sidelines due to super loud speakers. Then I watched part of the Texas Tech game and on 3rd down there was a really loud sounds affect blaring away while the Beavers were at the LOS with the QB trying to make calls to the team. If we want to take it to the extreme let's set up an 80s guitar band with a wall of Marshall full stacks behind the visitors bench pumping 140dB until their ears bleed and while we are at it install a state of the art direction sound system mounted on the light poles that pumps focus pink noise directly at the line of scrimmage. Or better yet, install a few of those state of the art crowd control devices to direct obscene dBs at the offense. I mean who needs yelling fans anymore? What is too much? Are there any rules?

Post Northwestern Game…Reactions?
The last time these players would have played at 9am was peewee football. And in a stadium with no stands on their side. A weird vibe for sure. I have 3 takeaways of future interest. #1 Dante Moore is him. I've been a bit "I'll believe the efficiency when I see it", but I'm seeing it consistently. The amount of times he dug us out of a hole with excellent decisions and really good throwing that is like Nix was doing in his second season. #2 We are really struggling to bring down RBs after 1st contact. I know some of that is the way the Northwestern RBs run the ball, and are likely taught to run the ball (never go down). But it seems like we are just tackling too high in the front 7 every game. Every tackle is a bear hug 1st, where they get drug for an extra couple yards due to lack of leverage. Those extra couple of yards each run are the difference between 3 and out, and an extended drive where we can't get off the field. It's tough for the DL when they are 6'5" and trying to shed a blocker to grab a 5'10 RB that is hunched over. I'm not a position coach, so I don't know how to fix it. #3. When our Tackles are trying to slide past the OL into the backfield to be disruptive it can leave some gaping holes for the RBs and frees up an OL to block the LBs. I guess we are good with the safeties coming downhill in a hurry before the RB breaks a big one, but it's scary. Again maybe that is just the cost of being disruptive.

Let’s Talk About the Ducks’ New Defensive Position
Part of me can't believe this is a relatively new concept. Just basic physics to lay you players out in a way to cover the highest probability of locations the football will go on a run play or RPO. It's a simple pyramid with the LOS as the base. Also because it's symmetrical it doesn't give the QB any clues. It does perhaps force more man coverage, and is probably most vulnerable to play action passes, but I think that like much of the mint defense, the expectation is rapid recognition and extreme athleticism will make up for those disadvantages.

Prediction Contest of Oregon vs. Northwestern: Join Us!
This may be Terry's best chance to win this season. My Pick: OREGON I want to say 10-48, but given the other predictions clustered there I won't win, so I'll go with: 9-54 3 TOs 3 Sacks 280 yards passing

Lanning to Big Ten: Stop Letting Everyone Preheat While We’re Still Defrosting
If we can keep distributing game reps to between 70-80 players, it becomes the equivalent of a moderate practice, and we don't need no stinking recovery time. I'm only half joking. Our depth does mitigate this disadvantage tremendously.
