  1. I’d say 11-1, but there will be a twist such as beating tOSU but losing to Michigan or Illinois. I get that it might be easy to overlook MSU based upon being between Michigan and UW and on the road…but MSU is a complete dumpster fire with yet another new coach. They should be limping heavily by 11/21. That’s the type of game where if OBD plays sub-par we should still easily win by double digits imo. DL has yet to lose to a B1G team without a pulse and I have a hard time envisioning MSU being the one to get him this particular year. Biggest traps imo are Boise (don’t think we’d actually lose, but first game at full strength for them), Illinois, Michigan. Those are solid teams that can bite you if you don’t bring it.
  2. I read it as “from the original 10” which allows for a non-inflated, apples to apples comparison to what happened in 1985. Almost nobody thinks Rutgers, Nebraska, or Maryland when someone says B1G. I still have to remind myself Maryland isn’t in the ACC and that happened 12 years ago. There is definitely bias against anyone added after PSU imo, but I don’t think it’s a west coast thing. We might not be as special to everyone else as we think we should be.
  3. Rushed and secretive coaching searches followed by the boss leaving…yikes.
  4. While OBD haven’t broken through with winning it all, you have to actually be in contention to win it all, and USC has yet to qualify for any version of a playoff that featured more than 2 teams. Recruiting success isn’t new for them, not sure why they think this is the year…but feel free to at least qualify for the modern era playoff once. Any team on this list not making the expanded playoff at least 4 out of 5 years should be considering firing their coach imo. Top-10 Average Composite Recruiting Classes (Last 5 Years, roughly 2020-2024, according to Google): Georgia Bulldogs: Generally considered #1, with consistently elite classes. Alabama Crimson Tide: Top-tier finisher annually. Ohio State Buckeyes: Consistent top-three finisher. LSU Tigers: Elite recruiting in Louisiana and nationally. Texas A&M Aggies: High-ranked classes, including the record-setting 2022 class. Clemson Tigers: Consistently top-10, strong under Dabo Swinney. Texas Longhorns: Elite recruiting pedigree. Oregon Ducks: Top-tier recruiting under Dan Lanning. USC Trojans: Elite recruiting in California, particularly strong in recent cycles. Notre Dame Fighting Irish: Solid, consistent top-10 to top-15 classes.
  5. 💯 There isn’t interest in OBD right now, but there has been enough interest to build the arena and I have attended the Phil Knight Invitational…there’s interest, just not in the current OBD regime imo.
  6. I really don’t understand what we’re doing. We could field a competitive team for the cost of 3-4 starters on the football team. Seems pretty clear (despite having his son’s name on the arena) PK and his network are not with the program, imo. They really should look into fixing whatever is the root of that problem.
  7. So is our problem actually NIL? 🤔
  8. Unless you’re the one doing the thumping, the women’s tourney doesn’t work very well until the elite 8 imo. The men’s tourney just had a 1 seed lose on opening weekend…simply never happens with the women’s tournament.
  9. Oram’s printed article today is about Beavis handling of Tinkle and commenting on Barnes since the melt down. New PAC would have been a very good hoops conference on paper 2 years ago…but it’s fading fast and not going to improve imo.
  10. It seems like the exiting members panicked for some reason and didn’t legally think through the exit. As an outsider laymen, I assumed 10 members leaving at once would translate into the conference just going away, apparently the exiting members fumbled on this aspect, which if true, is inexcusable. Incompetence being obscured by falling into a pile of cash imo. That being said Beavis and company have taken one misstep after another since the panic attack of the exiting 10, and have at best, greatly tarnished their reputation with one petty act after another. Oram’s article today is spot on.
  11. Yes, they won a few short term accounting battles and turned it into absolutely nothing. Classic lotto winner tale.
  12. Watching Wisconsin/Mich this morning, great game. Reinforcing for me it’s time to make the move, we’re not close even if we’d been healthy imo. I want to be watching OBD today and this upcoming week, not continuing with explanations and excuses. Hot take!
  13. Peaked at 39? How old were the other coaches listed when they broke through? I’d say the assessment is right on.
  14. 💯 agree. I advocate a football only super conference once the current grant of rights deal(s) expire…until then we deal with it.
  15. Tough to make it fair when you don’t play half the conference every year. Conferences/leagues of a certain size need to have divisions to at least try to make things “balanced”. This isn’t some new radical concept…there is a reason the NFL has 2 conferences and 8 divisions for only 32 teams. We have a nationwide conference with 18 teams and no divisions. Probably not a good model for fairness.
  16. If we want to continue slightly above average basketball in a good year, by all means, stay the course. 😉 There is some pretty heavy apathy at the moment.
  17. Level playing field is relative of course. Definitely levels out to be a top-12 or so, instead of a top-3. That being said, beyond the top-20-25 there is a chasm that will get worse without some changes. It doesn’t bode well for most when our OBD are able to take a starting QB from a fellow P2 league member and stash him on the bench.
  18. Anything from the Kevin Lusk era 😆 My first OBD memory as a very young lad was watching Reggie Ogburn, he seemed like a magician and I was hooked.
  19. It’s a disaster overall right now, imo. I think it helps if structured correctly, and calendar adjustments are made that make sense for both the playoff and the off-season. These adjustments are more important than the number of teams imo, but if 24 magically makes it happen, then whatever…it would be better. 24 teams without opt outs will absolutely improve the overall post season experience.
  20. I mean, we all want things. This is standard pie in the sky, overly complicated, don’t have the bandwidth to enforce dreaming that is the NCAA imo. But at least they are also seriously considering a rule about uniform pant length. Nah, don’t come up with some kind of salary cap, or create a football calendar that does not cause chaos…stick with the pant length thing NCAA.
  21. Some interesting tea leaves that stray into the political arena. There is a “significant” meeting taking place 3/6, so I have little doubt this is all in preparation for that.
  22. It’s not really surprising with Huang imo. One multi-billionaire made his fortune in the tech industry and has probably never attended a sports event. The other made his $$ marketing sports apparel and was a collegiate track athlete. Huang is also traditionally not very philanthropic relatively speaking…but that is a nut I’ll be trying to crack 😆
  23. I mean, OBD will have to adjust to the rules if this actually happens 😉
  24. I’m sure he wants to, just as Beavis wants their new conference to be a “P5”. One of these things will eventually happen, sort of. Not going to happen until there’s a “super conference” imo. I don’t think anyone is giving up power and $$ to elevate programs that haven’t been investing in success.
