Oregon is Almost a Blue Blood, but Not Quite.
Great thoughts! I think we’re a bit like a frog in the slowly boiling pot, our environment is substantially different than it was in say, 1995…but it’s been a slow burn that we might not fully appreciate. Hard to compare eras, but we definitely get the benefit of the doubt way more than 95% of the teams out there. One example, we lost our QB and we’re starting a guy that flamed out at UCLA going into the year, but we were still ranked in the preseason top-10. Will we ever get as much benefit of the doubt as USC or Alabama? Hard to say. Another thing to think about is how do teams “lose” blue-blood status? Is Army still blue-blood? Harvard? Minnesota? Or somewhat more recently, how about Nebraska? Oklahoma? TA&M? IMO this is a slippery slope, but I’m not sure it matters anymore aside from getting ribbed about zero titles.

Uniform Reveal for Indiana Game...'Whatever!'
Going to go ahead and say I think those are sharp, but then again, I’m only 55 😉 As to the stormtrooper unis at PSU, I thought that would be cool too, but there may also have been some thought about having uniforms that contrast well with the sea of white in the background. (David Marsh beat me to the punch)

Oh Beavis....Lost to Appalachian State?
I do believe their original O/U was 7.5 wins. The biggest koolaid swilling Beavis supporters had visions of no worse than 10-2 with a real shot at running the table at making the playoff due to their wise investment at QB. It truly is an incredibly light schedule (by design) and they completely faceplanted.

Oregon Broke Penn State
Long season and some random teams usually take the place of those that fall. The SEC has a relative LOT of losses on the ledger for their contenders. The normal pattern for the SEC would be that “Texas only lost because now Florida is in the top 10, so let’s not penalize Texas too much.” Hard to do that when they lose to a Florida team with a losing record, but they‘ll try. SOS concepts being tossed around by the SEC mouthpieces are a bunch of smoke imo. Only way we don’t get in with 2 losses is if we have horrible timing. If we go 10-0, drop the last 2 in a row and don’t make the B1G championship game….thats the only 2 loss scenario that keeps us out IMO.

Oh Beavis....Lost to Appalachian State?
Nope! Just remember they’re actively trying to kill the MWC instead of joining forces, no empathy. I’d still put their ceiling at 4 wins with a floor of 1. The thing I don’t get is how obtuse the Oregonian was on picking them to win. The logic was “Boise just beat App, therefore even though it’s on the road, Beavis will win.” They somehow still think they’re on par with a team that made the CFP last year. Going to be a shame when they don’t crack the top-4 of the new PAC next year.

Oregon Broke Penn State
First road game not being until game #5 catches up to them. Let’s not start playing the transitive properties game quite yet. tOSU only scored 14 at home against Texas, who just gave up all kinds of points against a 3 loss team, etc etc. =tOSU is no good. I think I have the math right.

QUAAACK! Five-star Tajh Ariza Commits to Oregon
Always exciting to see a good prospect signed. I hear you on the “abandoning” of the team, but imo it’s not because of the arena. I’m in PDX and had the option of going to any game I wanted for free last year, and went zero times College basketball in general has become pretty boring in the regular season imo. OBD teams the last few years have been relatively mediocre and Dana plays an old school brand of ball….football has raised the bar, squeaking into a field of 68 no longer moves the needle like it used to.

Oregon Football: The Bye Week Blues
Seems like human nature to me. Who wants the new team to come in and dominate? Going to be tossed a few barbs where possible imo. Be curious to see how we set up Utah their first couple years in the PAC. Or Texas and OU in the SEC.

Sources: Big Ten Mulling $2B Private Capital Deal
I’m not going to dig too much into anything I have zero control over, such as how my entertainment is funded. That being said, agreeing to anything that goes until 2046 seems completely insane on the surface imo. If you want an example, just look at how bad (moving forward) the ACC current grant of rights deal looks right now…and it still has 11 years to go.

Moore in no Hurry to Leave for the NFL
No need to take a pay cut prematurely if he’s not going in the first round, but if he’s first round material at the end of the year it changes the dynamic imo. Our reality is that most truly great players will be in college 3 years, if they’re good enough to play at 18, there’s almost no point in redshirting. If they need a year to get stronger out of HS, most will leave after 2 years of being on the field. Balancing that reality with a few diamonds in the rough that develop over 4-5 years and you’ve got something.

A New Law Proposed to Allow Conferences to Band Together to Sell Media Rights.
Super league. Honest question, is there anything currently prohibiting this? I know they cite the 1961 law, but I doubt that would hold up, and if it did, I suppose that’s the reason for a super conference. A media rights law from 1961 might as well be hieroglyphics imo. We barely even had color TV at that point.

The Oregon-Penn State Rivalry is Here
Random aside. When I played out the season in the popular CFB video game, I did in fact play PSU 3 times 😆

The Oregon-Penn State Rivalry is Here
Love the article and the follow-ups in this thread. Hey, it’s the Wild West and there are no rules, so I’m going to invent a rule that a team has to play at Autzen 5 times before they can be considered for rivalry membership.

What Were You Surprised By? What NEEDS to be Improved vs. Indiana?
I think on offense we’ll keep improving. Our best playmakers are the youngsters and eventually they’ll all start…3rd down conversions have reflected youth to date imo. Dante just took a quantum leap forward beyond dominating terrible teams and being on cruise control. He was fantastic. Pass D is a menace, run D is just fine…most teams aren’t Penn State’s rushing attack and we looked damn good on that front for 3 quarters at least.

Let's Discuss 'Non-Oregon' Games Over Sept. 26-27!
Epic Beavis choke. They actually had enough talent to win that game but the staff is completely inept. Does 2-10 still get a bowl birth if they threaten a lawsuit?

Sorry Penn St., Your Whiteout is Overrated
If the national narrative is this is an incredibly difficult task against a team ranked ahead of us that is favored, let’s roll with that. Means we’re playing with house money.

Good News, and A Personal Update!
Get well brother, I appreciate your years of work here.

What Does "Commitment" Mean?
I don’t usually mess with people's Cornflakes…if someone still wants to follow recruiting super closely and they enjoy it, go for it. That being said, since this is a thread on the topic, for me personally I used to rabidly follow recruiting, but stopped as soon as the portal became a force. I still follow the macro and want us to do well, as it perpetuates perceived success which translates to success on the field eventually. But I personally refuse to be held hostage by the whims of a 17 year old trying to leverage himself. I’m all for kids getting what they can, but really don’t care about the negotiation process. Don’t get me wrong, the staff needs to be following this very closely, and they do an amazing job. As a fan, tell me who’s made it to fall camp and I’ll start drilling down more at the individual level.

Civil War Agreement?
That’s still not official, the same “reported” story we’ve been hearing about for a week..but not announced by either school yet. They keep quoting themselves as a source. Seems like if there was actually an agreement it would have been announced by now.
-
Civil War Agreement?
Has this actually been agreed to starting in 2027? I have found lots of references to continuing with Beavis, but nothing indicating it’s actually been agreed to. Anyone know?

Oregon's So-So Running Backs: Will Davison Grab the Top Spot?
Hill and Davison, the future might not quite be today, but I think it is this season. They could be great! I hope I’m wrong, but the odds of Noah not being injured throughout the year are slim, and the transfer to date seems underwhelming.

The Crumbling OSUs...
Los Angeles recruiting and B1G membership off the top of my head. IMO, nobody with options is willingly choosing to move to Stoolwater 😜 UCLA is on the rise with NIL spending, right coach there could make some waves.

Oregon's So-So Running Backs: Will Davison Grab the Top Spot?
Don’t get me wrong, Droughns might be my all time favorite Duck, but I’m actually very optimistic about our frosh backs and was surprised that Noah was HB1 out of the gate. As a fan, it’s hard to get a feel when splitting carries between 7-8 guys to date.

The Crumbling OSUs...
Hard to imagine WS not taking UCLA over Okie.

GIVE ME FIVE! A B1G FIVE!
Interesting list that has zero old guard B1G teams that aren’t tOSU or a team with a new coach. I’d flip some of the conversations circulating in the world and start taking a look at our pass defense efficiency. Hasn’t our goal always been to make teams one dimensional? Our pass defense has been so good teams getting blown out that should be airing it out have been unwilling or unable to do so. I believe Beavis threw for almost 300 against a very good Texas Tech on the road a week before us, but only managed 80 yards at Autzen on 7/22 passing. Give me a one dimensional, caveman football team to defend any day of the week!
