The coach can only do so much. Altman's teams have established the norm of being one of the best teams in the country at this time of the season. This team has played very well, 11 of 13 is impressive. But they were so bad early that this 85% run still has them on the bubble.

My thought on Helfrich and recruiting was that he was the most responsible for bringing Marcus Mariota to Oregon. You bring up a great point about Helfrich being caught right at the time when recruiting took a huge turn that he and his staff weren't acclimated to.

It was definitely a game dominated by the Bigs. Dante usually gets a couple of baskets early, but eventually the guards start scoring, but against the Cougars that didn't happen. Ball movement and passing was what got the Ducks the early lead against Cal, Harmon had a great drive to the basket, which would be the last Oregon score for 9 minutes.

Great take. A Bowl Performance chart is an awful way now to rate a conference, other than how many of its teams are bowl eligible. A while back, at another site my mission was to downplay Clemson. I couldn't stand how 1, they were getting credit for winning a Basketball Conference, and 2, there were several of the talking Heads who actually insisted that Clemson be in the Top 4 one season if they had been in it the season before! Literally saying that the seats are already filled.

A very timely post, geoquack. Cooper Kupp isn't the only player the Ducks faced before they were somebody. In 2007, fresh off a 55-24 thumping of Stanford at Palo Alto, the Ducks were home to face Cal, and a WR named Desean Jackson. All Jackson did was catch 11 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Throughout the game and afterwards everybody was saying,"how did that guy burn us like that?" The answer is because DeSean Jackson is really good. Numerous Pro Bowls and he holds the NFL record for most longer than 60 yards touchdown passes. Another player that fits this mold is a TE who's name you might recognize. He played at Arizona and his name is Rob Gronkowski. In 2008 he caught 12 passes for 143 yards. Kupp, Jackson and Gronkowski had great games against the Ducks for a good reason.

I'd go for that. Hopefully in the next 4 years the Pac will be playing 8 games: Oregon gets the game at Autzen first and Miami would be great for the week before the Oregon State game.

With the BYU game at home, my prognostication is a W, and with Utah; they're returning in great shape, but some of how great they looked in the two games against the Ducks was because the Ducks were so bad in those games. By the end of this season, these will be the Lanning Ducks, the game is at Autzen, I predict a big W for the O.
