Birthday, Independence Day Bar-B-Que Chicken!
Hope it was a great day of celebration for OBDF, everywhere! We shared a potluck (mostly Korean cuisine) dinner with a group in Basin, Montana, followed by fireworks in Boulder. The bbq Chinook salmon and Swedish meatballs were the only items I'd ever experienced before that, but it was all awesome. Quite a change from the normal routine at home in true Duck Country! Can't wait to get home.

Husky Fans: "Washington is on a Better Trajectory than Oregon"
In about 1970, I had a PE instructor / wrestling coach who liked to show off his athletic skills. Ralph was about 6'2/300 pounds, and tried that move on the tramp, with catastrophically similar results. His thighs went through two sets of springs, and the resulting traumatic bruising took weeks to heal. Some unsympathetic types laughed for at least that long.

Kirk Herbstreit Says Pac-12 Coaches are 'Anxious' to Face Colorado in 2023
Tough nut to crack... Deion needs to get his health stabilized before he can set a foot on the field on game day. Unintentional pun, definitely in poor taste.

Interesting Quotes About Dan Lanning by a Recruit...
In the past many athletes, including LDS, who consider themselves persons of faith have openly acknowledged the sensitivity shown by various coaches to their personal needs, whhether it be supporting mission trips, or accepting the limitations created by a given faith,. Oregon has grown in stature because of this in recent years. Many of our Poly players are openly LDS or muslim. Some coaches use religion as a recruiting tool. It's a fact. Abusing that can be as bad as proselytizing young men. Oregon has a chaplain available (Former Duck and NFL kicker, Josh Bidwell is one), but it's a service to the young men, not a tool. I see nothing threatening in that fact, nor in the comments made by the young recruit.

Sanders May Lose Foot. Affects CO Football?
I don't care if you like or dislike any person, this is the sort of thing that demands attention, immediate care, and thoughts/prayers for a strong recovery. When you think of the history of Sanders' sports career, it's hard to imagine this sort of outcome, yet, is probably much more common than many of us realize.

SDSU Gives Notice to Leave Mountain West Conference
Sad part is, had the PAC had the fortitude and foresight to expand several seasons ago when the opportunity presented itself, the numbers could easily have matched what the B1G currently has available, assuming that USC and UCLA stayed in the fold, and SDSU/SMU, or some similar market schools had joined. what a cluster.

Ranking the Pac-12's Schools by Excellence at the Quarterback Position
Perhaps some of the omissions weren't considered because the qbs in question preceded their respective schools admission to the PAC12? Sixkiller and Van Brocklin definitely would have been earlier, PAC8 members, but Danny White was not. Acknowledging their accomplishments would still have been cool. Those guys were definitely special to the fb legacies and traditions of their teams. Sixkiller shoulda beena Duck or Beav... That's like going having a Mariota in your neighborhood, and not even stopping by to shake his hand. Program defining, for the right team.

Future Conference Scheduling - The B1G Nails It!
So, the Ducks could be saving the cost of nearly 7500 travel miles per season, just in football, let alone all other sports combined? How many travel per game... 70 players, plus coaches, equipment managers, and other support staff? An additional fifty to 60 individuals seem right? Seems like the cost of travel alone would be daunting. That comes to at least 1,000,000 individual travel miles just for the football team.

Five Items to Know About Oregon's Opponent, Oral Roberts
Oral Roberts once "blessed" a Kamikaze Kid team to win it all in the post-season NIT after Oregon defeated his namesake, favorite team... The Ducks immediately lost in the subsequent game. Coincidence?

Think Beaver Fans Will Cheer for Pac-12/Oregon in Super-Regionals?
Beav fans... the only folks who actually wanted Oregon to adopt RoboDuck. Don't care if they lose as long as the Ducks don't win, no matter what the cost.

WWII: When the Fighting Ducks Came Marching Home
My Uncle George was on the Arizona... one of the first explosions knocked him overboard, and he survived. He was in the water for hours, using a floating spar he pushed around to assist in bringing injured to shore, then returning for others. His only major injury was the broken ankle he suffered when his oily boot slipped on the tailgate of the evac truck. It was his worst injury of the entire war, despite losing several other ships. Dad was a starting D lineman on the Beaver football team that year. Within hours of learning about the attack he, like millions of his compatriots, quit the team and enlisted in the army, eventually serving in Europe for the duration of the war. When I was a boy, in the 60's, I remember sitting with many of the veteran survivors of that conflict, watching the movie "White Christmas"... I saw more than twenty of the toughest men and women I have ever known were crying openly as their memories were triggered by the film. We may never fully understand what their sacrifices protected us from, but it's important to respect and honor that sacrifice.
