Wanna Bet Oregon Wins The Pac-12?
Interesting line. If Oregon airs it out against Utah like they did in the second half of the bowl game, given the OSU success against the Utes defense in the Rose Bowl, maybe the thinking goes that we play them tougher and win one of those games? Add in KT's comments about the team's lack of focus given Mario's impending departure, the loss of Utes LB's, and the Lanning Era reboot, a guy could talk himself into the Duck's winning the Pac-12 title next year over SC and Utah.

Cristobal Vows: Canes Going to 'Jump Ahead, Create Our Own Gap'
If he can improve to 8-3 next year, maybe they get back to the Cheez-It Bowl? Mario returning to the U? Is it closer to Frost returning to Lincoln or Harbaugh to Meatchicken?

Ducks Safety Daymon David Enters Transfer Portal
Oregon Ducks safety Daymon David enters transfer portal WWW.OREGONLIVE.COM David had tackles while playing in nine games last season. Seems like the Ducks are thin on the back end of this defense? Scoop has played well in practice but is one of those guys who can't shake the injury bug.

Be Honest: Do you Feel Sorry for Wright, McKinley and Williams?
True. And I think social media has enhanced the delusion. Because the narrative now starts in early high school, with scouts, recruiters, and handlers all looking to be on the kid early to buttress their bona fides or cement themselves as one of the entourage. I that sense, I do feel sorry for anyone caught up in the hype tornado. Imagine the type of grounding it would require to navigate that world. I like DL's "growth mindset" because it implies there is work to be done. Like the "de-recruiting" process I have heard inklings about as well. Coach DL is highly emotionally intelligent it seems to me. Especially compared to Mari's (no O) tough guy persona which didn't seem to emphasize development much. His approach seemed to be one of providing an opportunity (a schollie) to kids ranked highly by agencies and "scouts" and then leaving it up to them to maximize their potential without any support, encouragement, or tweaking of schemes to take advantage of team and individual strengths.

I agree with this 100%. The future is always uncertain and I will enjoy those sports immensely as long as they are holding games!

New Photos: Holy Crap! Husky Turnout WAS Stunning
Could there be more players than fans at that scrimmage? I think we will look back at the 1996-2021 years as a distinct era with the 85-scholarship limit and NIL as bookends of that era. 85 schollies leveled the playing field as much as possible. NIL deconstructs that system. In that 25 years, the Ducks record against the Dawgs was 20-5. After the dark decades of the 70's and 80's, I achieved nirvana. I have no idea what's next. I will continue to tune in as long as I am interested in the college football product. Not sure that will be much longer. I have no illusions that I will be missed.

Oregon Lands RB from Minnesota in Transfer Portal
There will be some roster churn until Fall Camp is over. Between the new staff, late enrollees, NIL and transfer portal....and, God forbid, injuries.....it's likely to be sizeable. I'd put the over/under at 7.

Be Honest: Do you Feel Sorry for Wright, McKinley and Williams?
Feel sorry? No. The problem is an ancient one. People think they are worth more than they are. Also, people don't understand statistics. A low percentage of athletes are professionals, yet each thinks they are pro worthy. Especially if they are making plays at a P5 school. In the case of these athletes, they have been feted and tweeted and tik tok'ed for years based on click-bait hype that makes money for themselves and their entourage from a young age. The ones who sharpen the saw, water the bamboo, or whatever metaphor you like, can make it. But many get distracted and lose focus or, believe the hype and light the cigar too early or, simply don't measure up against the competition or, a thousand other things. Life isn't fair. But, we all need someone to sell us insurance, or open another burger franchise. And, at least they had the social media heyday that few others ever get.

Jon Wilner's Pac-12 Stock Report
Wilner seems to often skew Duck-skeptical in the off season. Then, once we show up in conference play, he says we "overachieve" rather than he misjudged.

California (the State) Screwing with the System Again
Certainly better articulated than my post.....irrational ideologies inevitably turn inward on themselves.

California (the State) Screwing with the System Again
I find it interesting how the motivated reasoning has changed on this. I recall posters of a certain ilk on other sites a few short years ago suggesting that non-revenue generating squads are getting the shaft by citing how the men's teams had better facilities, etc. When one countered that they generated the funds, and in the case of football took the brunt of the brutal injuries, so that others had a chance at an athletic scholarship, that logic was dismissed as misogynistic or elitist. Now this ilk has unleashed NIL and further wants profit-sharing for revenue generating athletes. Wither the concern for other scholarship athletes. I wonder if they would consider themselves misogynist and elitist now? When one abandons reason, one is by definition unreasonable.

Canzano: Pac-12 Joins Rally Cry for NCAA Change
I have worked in higher ed for 25 years. Strategic Change Management is not a strength of college administrators. In fact, I think they are genetically engineered to be the opposite of that. The exception is Mitch Daniels at Purdue.

Predicting the 2-Deep on Offense After Spring Game
I agree.....TE seems to be a room in transition. Ferguson, Mataveo are the TE 2-deep. The UH H-back whose name escapes was plucked from the portal so coaches like him. Kaspar is a hybrid TE guy. Where does that leave Webb, McCormick, Herbert and Nanney? How many scholly and WO TE/Hbacks will we carry?

Dan Patrick on Kayvon Thibodeaux
KT strikes me as a well-rounded, curious intellectual kid who is living a "life examined" as Socrates suggested. He may not be a singular focus, "football is life" guy. Doesn't mean he won't be successful in the NFL. He may change focus once he receives appropriate remuneration and be "all-in" like Damian Lillard, regardless of franchise success or history. I also understand why he is media scrutinized the way he is.

It's Amazing How Pleasant it is to Read Posts and Articles on This Site!
Hi mrspenny, it's good to see you here. Please post often. This site reminds of one particular long gone Duck site that was a collection of good humored fans who went through the ups and downs together for a couple of decades. This includes signing day chatrooms with many of us surreptitiously logged in while at work pretending to work though our inboxes. That site sold to a recruiting service and they condensed everything into one board that focused on recruiting all year to sell subscriptions. That's when I tapped out. In looking back, I think that when Beavermobile slipped this earthly coil, that board was lost forever. At least we have Repo Santa though.

Could Ty Thompson be the No. 3 Quarterback?
I love all three of these guys....we are fortunate to have these choices. Butterfield has looked the more natural passer and reader of defenses, but Ty clearly has the physical skillset. Nix has SEC conference experience and knowledge of the offense clearly a capable high quality college QB. With Georgia and BYU up in Games 1 and 2, and a first-year coach, you have to think Nix is the odds-on favorite to start. If not, then he was beaten out by a QB with NFL potential. Someone will have a tough decision to make after Spring. Maybe potential QB recruits are waiting to see how things shake out before committing. If someone transfers, another program is going to get a great QB....

Oregon's Biggest Win of Dan Lanning Era Sparks Collective Cheer
If I were a smart financial/actuarial type, I would figure out how to bundle future Duck football revenues into NIL deals with an annuity device that provides a basic income for the athlete for their lifetime and scaled earnings based on a combined scorecard of personal, unit and team goals while in the Duck uniform. These incentives would encourage commitment to the team while playing, as well as, a commitment to the "progrum" after their career to insure that future team revenues are as high as possible to maintain the expanded NIL payouts.
